but how different are some EU countries to america? the Rusian have NO option BUT to look at europe as part of the us when it comes to the crunch

There needs to be more demands by Russia for security in South Ossetia - and that demand needs to be made foreceful to the EU, as well as the UN Security Council.

The reality is that the EU is making a BIG mistake by not renewing the 1997 agreement. However, on view point is that the agreement should continue with out a renewal or up-grade to the 1997 one.
Again, it is better for Russia to grow closer to the European Union and to treat the EU as separate from the US.
