  • She is GREAT OPERA SINGER!

  • what is a440,41...and so forth??-what does that mean?

  • I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove, she's amazing

  • 1:35 - 2:10 - ASTONISHING!!!!!!!!!

  • Damn she is HOT !!!!

  • 0:39 Harry Potter uses the invisibility cloak!!

  • take that justin bieber.....it sickens me to hear that she isnt as famous as he is.

  • She's so pretty!

  • i love u diana

  • My favorite Queen of the Night. Not only does she sing beautifully, but the fierceness and anger can be heard in her voice.

  • There is only One for this role and that is Diana- pitty she will retire from being The Queen of the Night.

  • It is always appreciated when an attempt is made to re-create the actual sound of the music from another period. As a new subscriber to your channel, I thank you for disclosing it to me.

  • I had no idea Harry Potter conducted! Lol...just kidding. I LOVE THIS!!!

  • She is a superlative artist!!!. Thank you. Cheers!!!, Sergio.

  • 14 people don't know brilliance when they hear it

  • I love you.

  • HARRY POTTER!!!

And that voice is damn amazing. Amazing.

  • GREAT voice, great performance, great orchestra!!! S-U-P-E-R!!!!! :) REALLY enjoyed it!!!! Greetings from Tallinn Estonia.

  • where can I buy this?

  • @jeihu1 There is a link to the CD on my channel :)

  • BEST QUEEN OF THE NIGHT EVEEEEERRRRRRR!! I love her.

  • i can't believe that there are still people that think that erika miklosa is the best queen of the night!!! -.-"

  • i love her !!!!!!

  • she is a perfet queen...and i can't think that there are still people that think that erika miklosa is the best!!!!

  • I didn't know that Harry Potter is a conductor :-) It's a kind of magic anyway, isn't it ?

  • And Rhorer can't use the excuse of a live performance where he would have to reduce his volume; he's in studio, for Heaven's sake!

  • But why use a baroque orchestra for a 1791 work? I wouldn't expect the English Concert to play Beethoven...Damrau is great. The orchestra is crap. The punches are to punched and the orchestra disappears between the punches. That's not what I call accompanying the solist.

  • @LordHettrick I used to agree with you, but after seeing them live with Diana at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées last year, I am convinced that the problem with this recording was actually the recording location and the placement of the microphones. They sounded great, live!

  • @Lilith89ibz I'll take your word for it, as Diana Damrau has not cared to make a stop in Quebec yet. Curious, you would think that the sound engineers would know what they are doing.

  • @LordHettrick In 1791 they still used gut strings and baroque type violins and wooden flutes and valveless brass... They didn't just started using modern instruments in the classical period... The orchestra as we know it today was only formed in the late 1800's. So, they are playing as closely we can play to Mozart's time

  • was the vid recorded by parts?, i mean not at the same time.

  • After listening to her version on stage of this aria I just realized that this version is on a lower key than the one she sang on stage which is the original key. She did an awesome job on this version too, but it seems to me like it was harder for her to sing this with the same power and clearness in this lower key. This usually happens a lot with coloratura sopranos, they should´ve left the aria on it´s original key cause she can sing it perfectly.

  • @IshyIMB017 Actually, they are playing in the original key, but they are tuned according to the original tuning, which is A415 instead of A440 or A442 which are what we are used to hearing nowadays.

This was not done to accomodate Diana's voice at all (you are right, she was more comfortable with a higher pitch because of her muscle memory), but to fit the baroque orchestra and the recording location.

  • @Lilith89ibz - Wow, you are so smart and I mean that honestly. I have decent relative pitch but not perfect pitch. I didn't realize this recording had been lowered. It's ironic you should mention A440 vs. A442. The violinist I work with has her piano tuned to A441! I totally agree with you in terms of Diana's kinesthetic response to the key; she doesn't seem as comfortable singing slightly lower; I just couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks much for the information. She's still wonderful.

  • Yes, yes....a thousand times YES!

  • I was drawn into this version more than the her actual performance of the show. I LOVE HER SOOOO MUCH..

  • Lol @ overenthusisatic Harry Potter :D

  • Is it me or are Harry Potter flms just gettng lazy?

Seriously though, beautiful voice, fantastic to see Diana Damrau away from the stage. What a fox.

  • Besides her being so freakin' incredible, she's hot.

  • I think you have to really be perfectly studied, in the mood, amazingly talented, and have run around the block jumping up and down for 15 minutes prior to this--in order to perform this song well. suffice it to say, diana damrau is really an incredible woman!

  • Simply BEAUTIFUL (the song .. and her) !

    : )

  • She's amazing, but unfortunately, so is not Jérémie Rhorer. He's far too insisting on the punches and not enough on the accompanying. The brass is too heavy.

    She's great, though.

  • period instruments ftw

  • i cant believe this song is about revenge ... so cool

  • oh. my. god. are there any other words needed? im 16 years old and i dont no anyone who lives anywhere near me who even know what opera is let alone how moving and magnificeint it really is. i feel privlaged to know that i was able to live in the same era as Diana Damrau. thank you for making me cry, <3

  • Chills! I cannot get over this woman's amazing gift.

  • I do believe god was present.

  • awesome.TY.

  • She seems like a really sweet and nice person... =)

    I just love her!!!

  • Oh period instrument!

  • bela, belíssima!

  • omigod... the EPITOMY of opera... i just peed a little bit....

  • how the conductor was able to stand there? I would've been blown away by her.

  • Diana owns this, she performs this song better than anyone I seen or heard!!!!

  • Fantastic!! Hilarious conductor! :D

  • Genius such angry

  • near impossible... talent! she must have been born with a microphone..or even a stadium.. amazing!

  • That was the cutest reaction to a job well done. A gorgeous smile and a forehead rub...awesome!

  • Celine Who? Mariah Who?

Diva!

  • i love this girl

  • 0:38 ... where did he go??

  • He's saying get quieter by dipping down.

  • Beautiful! So is her singing

  • Vollendung in höchster Form.

  • Honey bursts forth from a shell of lilies.

  • This aria isn't supposed to be pretty hehe...honey - Raging Hell, lilies - Nagging Mother...Not very close. BUT I do agree Diana sings this very well

  • Brilliant performance. But seriously, why is the conductor beating on the downbeat? I don't get it....:-/ can somebody explain?

  • When you find a formula for figuring out conductors, please tell the rest of us!

  • Amen.

  • love her!!!!!!! shes incrdibly terrific... the best queen of the night ever!!!

  • @aleduffoo i love lucia popp.

  • In a word: FIERCE

  • I'm speechless at her talent. I've heard this aria so many times and it never gets old. She is amazing!

  • Oh my god! There are no words to describe this! She's such a beautiful woman with such a STUNNING voice! I'm speechless!

I love how into it everyone was getting, moving around! Haha but apparently it works, because...WOW! It's incredible.

  • amazing and shes gorgeous ahhhhhhh =>

  • ahhh!

Amazing ness is exploding out of this woman. all over.

  • Magnifica!

  • to było piękne

  • She's awesome! :)

  • Excellent!!

  • Ich bin eigentlich kein Opern Fan, aber

    ich liebe ihre Stimme !!!

Außerdem ist Diana sehr hübsch und sympatisch.

    Danke

  • Wonderful.

  • Great voice... Pretty good looking, too

  • Incredible and Intense. Thank You.

  • ¡Hola lilith!

  • Pues mira, ahi sigo: viviendo. Me voy a poner celosa cari, jejeje

Tienes facebook? Así nos seguimos la pista ;)

  • So astonishing. My hero..

  • Yes, I love it when Harry Potter disappears under the music stand. Damrau sings brilliantly - her characterisation adds a dimension to her voice of sexy hatred. Incredible.

  • Edda Moser sings this song very well, but Damrau adds an energy to it that you don't find in many other singers.

  • Diana is fantastic.

p.s. ROFL @ 0:40! where is Harry Potter going to? he falls down!

  • oh man i love damrau. Anyone else notice that this is not the original key though? either that or they raised it for her performance. Which one is the right one? I don't have a piano so I can't really check if this one is low or the other one is high. As always though, damrau does an amazing job. definitely my favorite soprano...

  • This one has been lowered to fit the original tunning :) (There is more info in the other comments)

  • ah hah. That makes sense. Thank you :)

  • i think Mozart had foreseen thay one day would be just this woman to sing his opera....Wonderful!!:)

  • Perfect as always! I have to say thoug, it's kinda weird to see her do this out of costume =)

  • mozart loved to bring out the range of a soprano.

  • Amazing...

  • i have "Arie di Bravura" and "Mozart Donne". I can't stop listen that! She's amazing.... her voice, her colour, her actin, all! complete!!!!

I luv Maria Callas, but some song I think, Mozart find "a future muse".... Diana Damrau....

    From Argentina

    Marcelo

  • That gave me chills! She's phenomenal.

  • Mozart was tough on his ladies lol.

  • Salieri was too! Check the written (not optional) high G in L'Europa Riconosciuta ;-)

  • he always loved to mess up with sopranos haha

  • hahaha agree

  • She does this so well!!! She's pretty also. :D I'd love to hear this live!

  • MAD CONDUCTOR!!! GREAT!!!

  • omg.. i simply love this woman.. her voice is soo captivating and simply marvelous.. not to mention the that she's absolutely beautiful!

  • She's so beautiful when she smiles...

and in a simple pullover even more beautiful than in any costume

    and... talented O ... O

    love her

    (a bit)

  • Yeah, 'a bit'. We all do xD

  • Who is the conductor and how old is he? Looks very young!

  • His name is Jéremie Rhorer. I don't know how old he is, but I believe he is in her early thirties? Couldn't tell for sure.

  • staggering

  • simply amazing

  • She's AMAZING!

  • Oh.... You are a truely queen of Night! !!!

    Genious! :DDDD

    I love You!

    I love the orchestra!

XD XD

  • Same thing happening to me xD

  • omg i think i love this woman XD

  • i had the pleasure of meeting Diana Damrau after one of her performances as Gilda (Rigoletto) at the Met. she was very sweet. I asked her about the queen of the night. She said (in her cute little german accent) that the role is one of her favorites but its one that she will retire soon. "Its just so intense. You have to give 110% every time"

  • Your so lucky. Id give anything to meet Diana. Apart form her talent she just seems so nice. There is something about her that gabs you.

  • J love Diana Damrau ! <3 her voice is my favourite!!!!!Oh my good! i want to meet her !

  • I didn't know Harry Potter directed an orchestra... hehehe I love Diana

  • I KNOW!!!!!! XD XD

  • It's like 3/8 tone low... guessing that's just the youtube video?

My favorite singer for Der Holle Rache... totally amazing

  • No, it's not the video. It was tuned down for the recording. I am not happy with that either, but well... Baroque orchestra, original instruments, original pitch. It had to be everything, or none of those lol

  • I thought baroque tuned upwards

  • Well, the reason for that is simple. I'm talking about violins, now, that is what I know about. Back then, the strings of the violin were made out of gut, and technology was not so great. I mean, lots of people use gut strings nowadays too, but metallic strings are becoming more popular.

Those strings did not respond in a good way to much tension (to tune upwards you have to stretch the string, obviously).

  • Hmmm.... i see what you mean, but I still thought that standard A was a semitone higher which would still pull the tuning upwards rather than downwards. Anyway, my memory is a bit shaky so I could be wrong

  • Mozart's tuning was about A415, nowadays anything between A440 and A445. So Baroque tuning was lower than today's.

  • Thanks for the fact! :)

  • wow ........ i really like her....

  • i love her.

  • she look so pretty without the stage makeup

  • she looks younger, actually :)

  • she looks 25

  • I already heard several Queens of the Night, but there is just something about her voice that makes her the best of all. She has a really marvelous voice.

  • eccitante,erotica,angelica, un sogno.

    TI AMO DIANA

  • who's the conductor? yuummmmm..... ;)

  • Just wondering, when she does this song and other songs live is it pre-recorded? Because it seems like it takes A LOT out of her, and she cant look like that on stage, and she usually doesnt. Or is she just able to hold it together when shes live?

  • No it's never pre-recorde =)

  • NEVER pre-recorded. She probably looks tired in this clip because she's been doing it all day. Musicians stay in the studio pretty much all day long.

  • I love her face before she goes for the F's... she has this "okay Fs. it's ON" and then kills them everytime!!

  • OMFG! she is so incredible

  • Awsome as always.Brava

  • Oh God!

    She is married?

    =/

  • No, she is not xD

  • Here she isn't so good as she had been at the Covent Garden. Take a look and prove my words. There she was extremely wonderful. I simply loved her taking the Queen. Here it's not quite convincing as there. Please, watch it. And please, if you know the name of this young and great and very beautiful conducter. I loved him. He has lots of energy. Bravo, guy! I'm in doubt who I would marry! :) but I think the guy! ihihhihi He's so cute!

  • Yeah, well, it's not the same to record a CD than to be acting on stage. And, well, great as Jéremie Rhorer may be, Sir Colin Davis was conducting in Covent Garden! ;-)

  • Ok! I know it too, but she could try to be as if on stage, at least putting one third of what she has done in that production, but I know also, now it's a new conducting. Ok! My comment does't mean she's horrible here. No! She's still good, but it lacks the magic power present in the live interpretation on stage. But despite everything Congratulations to her! And thank you for saying me the name of the conducter. :)

  • Oh, well, that's because she was probably recording all day. You can't be like on stage when you are recording. There are a lot of things missing! :)

  • holy this is intense!

  • Marry me!!!

  • wonderful!

  • she's beautiful, isn't she?

    and very talented...

i think, she does sing this piece the best..
