@rbl777 First, the gov't is not (and should not be) in the investment business, that is where they really jumped the tracks. You are right about the bailout fiasco - I wonder which lobbyist coined the phrase "too big to fail". Whatever happened to "buyer beware"? Oh yea, it left with personal responsibility. The gov't using our tax dollars to save GM means that you and I don't have money of our own to invest in green tech companies.
@photonine are you talking about investment business like stocks or investment as in research in medicine, education and everything?
and again, if they only invested 1 trillion in green technology, not in failing companies that only gave out bonuses and outsourced jobs overseas.
but hey! its not in the interest of the owner of the company to make it a sustainable company, at least no in "free market" economy. in the interest of the owner is to make most money with least resources-simply cancer
@rbl777 stocks or research, what's the difference? It's all speculating since the outcome is unknown, to wit the government should do neither. No bailouts (GM, banks, etc). No handouts (cash for clunkers, caulkers). Definitely not green tech! The gov't should not be in the business of trying to pick winners and losers.
If they must, just do more X-prizes, that way we only pay for the successful endeavors, rather than funding the latest fad to garner political votes.
Ever notice how money comes from the Federal Gov't? Hello Mr. Wu. Where do you think that money comes from?
