I've read that the Naqshbandi tariqa teachers that you should never go against the Shaykh even if what he teaches contradicts with Islam. Is this true?

and for those shouting bidah bidah... yes its a bidah but a good bidah. there are many eg of bidah. The first azaan in jummah salah was a bidah as it was given ruling by one of the four caliphs.
the taraweeh prayer in congregation is a bidah as at time of s.a.w it was prayed seperate so please to educate yourselves before shouting bidah bidah.

Reports with the same meaning were narrated via Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) by Ahmad, via al-'Irbaad ibn Saariyah by Abu Dawud and via Ibn Mas'ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) by Ibn Maajah.

Dhikr in unison is a bid'aa and so it must be avoided. Nothing in the Holy Quran or saheeh hadith states that dhikr should be done in unison. Dhikr should only be done to oneself (alone). Jazak'' Allah.

hadith you are talking about isnt najd it is iraq in Sahih Muslim specifically addressing the people of Iraq and directly attributing the hadith to that area. We have to know what tariqa and what naqshbandi really is. Is it right to have a 2 meters long beard? Who does this type of beard belong to? Is the "dhikr" made with a high sound like that or are we supposed to whisper? There are many things which have to be known. Dhikr is holy and should be made in its old type. Without music and all the new things.

Music is strictly prohibted in Naqashbandi order according to Maktubaat -e -Hazzart Mujided Alif Sani.This is why,Qawali is not allowed in Naqashbandi oreder yet it is allowed in Chisti Order.Therefore it is contradictry in sufi thoughts itself.
Dhikr is a very simple concept.. divided and made complex by the confused.. for this has been done with every aspect of the "Straight Path"... Any utterance of practically any word when uttered with Adoration/Love from the Heart is DHIKR of Allah.. For Allah is not limited by any manifest form...rather Allah is the source of all that is manifest...Peace
The Sahaba used to call on Muhammad(SAW) to make intercession with Allah(SWT), The people of Israel would as prophet Musa(AS), intercession with Allah(SWT).

WHEN HE WAS ALIVE ... they would call on him. When the Prophet was alive, they would ask him to INTERCEDE for them, they would ASK him - to intercede with Allah - for them.
BUT AFTER THE DEATH OF MUHAMMAD صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, the Sahaabah did NOT call on their Prophet Muhammad for Waseelah (intercession).
They knew that after the death of a Prophet or righteous person, we can't call on them! SEE THE QUR'AN, dear brother, SEE 35:14

The Sahaabah did NOT call on the Prophet after his death. They would, instead, use the Righteous People who were alive -- for tawassul in their Du'aa'. But they would not call on the dead.
Dear brother, never-mind the fact we are prohibited from Calling our bless Rasuul(SAWS) "dead". Take a good look at this Sahih Hadith. Narrated Ibn 'Umar:
The Prophet looked at the people of the well (the well in which the bodies of the pagans killed in the Battle of Badr were thrown) and said, "Have you found true what your Lord promised you?" Somebody said to him, "You are addressing dead people." He replied, "You do not hear better than they but they cannot reply."
"If you invoke them, they do not hear your supplication; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association. And none can inform you like [one] Acquainted [with all matters]."
Key Word "Association", Ie this is for those who WORSHIP the prophets, unless of course you know better this verse than Al-Jalalayn(rh)
If you call on them, they will not hear your call, and [even] if they heard —hypothetically [speaking] — they would not [be able to] respond to you; and on the Day of Resurrection they will disown your [idolatrous] associations, in other words, your associating them with God [in power], that is to say, they will declare themselves innocent of you and of your worship of them. And none can inform you, about the state in the two abodes, like One Who is Aware, Knower, and this is God,

@honestknight1 I agree that we should perform salah like Muhammad (SAWS) taught us. But, what's wrong with glorifiyng the name of Allah? Sufis don't say that dhikr replaces salah, or that it is better then salah. If a person wants to give praise to Allah through dhikr why not? I'm neither Sufi nor Salafi but don't see any problem with Sufis chanting, or whirling, or whatever they do to glorify our God. I say Sufis did much more for Islam then Salafis. Imam al-Ghazali alone did more then Salafis.
@Crunchybear1 While I am an admirer of the Sufi tariqas, I despise comparing Salafis or Wahabis as Satanists. They may be misguided, but they are far from Satanists. Only Allah is the judge, you negate all your good deeds. I know some Salafis and they mean well and are wrong, but they have a good heart and I pray that Allah guides us all to Siraat al-Mustaqeem. Its a shame that we some Sufis who have resorted to name calling. This is not the Sufi way, it is not the way of Islam.

No brother you are lost. As far as ibadat every single one is forbiden until there is a permission from Kuran or Mohammad saws for that. And as far as socialising, everything is allowed until something from Kuran or Sunnah comes and says its forbiden. Dhikr is allowed in Islam and recomemended but only in form that our bellowed prophet saws was doing it and in the form that first generations done it. and for those shouting bidah bidah... yes its a bidah but a good bidah. there are many eg of bidah. The first azaan in jummah salah was a bidah as it was given ruling by one of the four caliphs.
the taraweeh prayer in congregation is a bidah as at time of s.a.w it was prayed seperate so please to educate yourselves before shouting bidah bidah.

(Reported by al-Nisaa'i in al-Sunan, Salaat al-'Eedayn, Baab kayfa al-Khutbah). Reports with the same meaning were narrated via Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) by Ahmad, via al-'Irbaad ibn Saariyah by Abu Dawud and via Ibn Mas'ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) by Ibn Maajah.

@bashiirz Subhaanallah bro .. studying hadeeth isnt a minor thing. studying hadeeths should be done under a sheikh who has studied from a line of sheikhs which is traceable to the sahaba and the prophet s.a.w. the hadeeth you quoted is sahih. BUT.. if u dint read what i put before. after our beloved sayyidina Muhammad s.a.w.w had passed from this Dunya in the physical sense. there was the 4 Caliphs as i assume you would now.. at the time of these caliphs.. --'resuming on next reply'-- ..

Dhikr in unison is a bid'aa and so it must be avoided. Nothing in the Holy Quran or saheeh hadith states that dhikr should be done in unison. Dhikr should only be done to oneself (alone). Jazak'' Allah.

"O people of Iraq, how strange it is that you ask about the minor sins but commit major sins? I heard from my father 'Abdullah b. Is the "dhikr" made with a high sound like that or are we supposed to whisper? There are many things which have to be known. Dhikr is holy and should be made in its old type. Without music and all the new things.

Music is strictly prohibted in Naqashbandi order according to Maktubaat -e -Hazzart Mujided Alif Sani.This is why,Qawali is not allowed in Naqashbandi oreder yet it is allowed in Chisti Order.Therefore it is contradictry in sufi thoughts itself.

WHEN HE WAS ALIVE ... they would call on him. When the Prophet was alive, they would ask him to INTERCEDE for them, they would ASK him - to intercede with Allah - for them.
BUT AFTER THE DEATH OF MUHAMMAD صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, the Sahaabah did NOT call on their Prophet Muhammad for Waseelah (intercession).
They knew that after the death of a Prophet or righteous person, we can't call on them! SEE THE QUR'AN, dear brother, SEE 35:14

The Sahaabah did NOT call on the Prophet after his death. They would, instead, use the Righteous People who were alive -- for tawassul in their Du'aa'. But they would not call on the dead.

Dear brother, never-mind the fact we are prohibited from Calling our bless Rasuul(SAWS) "dead". Take a good look at this Sahih Hadith. Narrated Ibn 'Umar:
The Prophet looked at the people of the well (the well in which the bodies of the pagans killed in the Battle of Badr were thrown) and said, "Have you found true what your Lord promised you?" Somebody said to him, "You are addressing dead people." He replied, "You do not hear better than they but they cannot reply."

Sufis don't say that dhikr replaces salah, or that it is better then salah. If a person wants to give praise to Allah through dhikr why not? I'm neither Sufi nor Salafi but don't see any problem with Sufis chanting, or whirling, or whatever they do to glorify our God. I say Sufis did much more for Islam then Salafis. Imam al-Ghazali alone did more then Salafis.

Only Allah is the judge, you negate all your good deeds. I know some Salafis and they mean well and are wrong, but they have a good heart and I pray that Allah guides us all to Siraat al-Mustaqeem. Its a shame that we some Sufis who have resorted to name calling. This is not the Sufi way, it is not the way of Islam.

And as far as socialising, everything is allowed until something from Kuran or Sunnah comes and says its forbiden. Anas ibn Mâlik (ra) said that the Abysinians (Habashîs) danced in front of the Messenger of Allâh (saw); dancing while saying "Muhammad is a Righteous Servant (Muhammadun `Abdun Sâlih)" (in their language). Allâh's Messenger (saw) asked, "What are they saying?" And they responded, "Muhammadun 'Abdun Sâlih!".
"`Â'isha stated that Allâh's Messenger (saw) put her cheek on his shoulder while looking at the Abyssinians dance."

@Abdullah30 astagfirullah brother can you refrain from talking in such arrogant and abusive manners, you have just proven yourself that what you are following is not that of the prophet rasool allah wailaihi wasallam. the prophet never had anger or arrogance in him, even when he was talking to the fire worshippers. any teaching which brings up anger and aggression in you is the teaching of shaytaan. may allah azawjal guide you brother.

@Marvellousxxx these are the ijtihadi shape of tazkia stated in quran and ihsan stated in islam zikar is the source of purification of heart not the distiny. the distination of sufisim is the raza of allah. if you do the objection like wahabis that this was not exists in the prophet times so tanks fighter planes were also not exsists at that time and for your information bukhari and other books were also not in the time of prophet. so they are also bedat in your view?

@shakilhassanzai i really cant relate to the response you gave to my comment. it really has any relativatity with what i say. i follow sufi's and peers as they are great walis of allah, im not one of the bida bida shouting wahabbis, i am a hanafi. think before you reply to a message as it really doesnt make sense.
