The term is usually used if the snare drum is used only on the third, fourth, fifth (or above) beat of the measure. It can be heard from 0:02 - 1:47 and 3:25 - 4:06

Some Thrash Metal bands use what i'd call blastbeats too, listen to the song ''Of Ice And Movement'' by Gorgoroth, it starts out with a blastbeat, it's a fast beat played with alternating between the snare and bass drum, primarily used in extreme Metal, but is believed to be invented by Jazz drummers in the 60's. Hope it helps.

The bit at 3:03 is a "d-beat", played exceptionally quickly. Blast beats require that the snare be hit on the beat, rather than be syncopated, as it is in a d-beat.

And, sorry but unless I am again mistaken, I am pretty sure that blastbeats usually require a double kick pedal, unless you can do them insainly fast.

It's nothing to do with that really, it's more the fact that Gorgoroth got a lot less good in the later years and that was Gaahl's fault. The fact that he is gay only makes it worse, it wouldn't matter otherwise if the band had still kicked ass when he was part of it. As far as I'm concerned, this album, Pentagram, and Under The Sign Of Hell are the true, pure Gorgoroth. Destroyer was their last good album even though Gaahl has a minor role on it. After that they went downhill, IMO.
