@SIG551P I listened! It's really that simple. I just learned from others and what I didn't understand I did my homework on. Then I went out and did it, because nobody ever successfully convinced me I couldn't.
Seek the people who have what you want. Do what they tell you, and try to improve on it. Realize no matter how good you are, there's someone better, and you should listen to them even if they're an asshole. There's always a lesson in it.
Hey Jafro, are you doing full rebuild on your engine? I'll be waiting for all of your videos, because the are very technical and very informative. and i will be building my second DSM that i picked up for $320!!
Thank you jafro alot of your videos have saved me time and taught me a lot I'll be putting it to the test when I pull my 1g cylinder head off bent a few valves jumped timing. But I'm looking forward to the experience.
@mbopm You're going to love Blueprint 105. :) I'm going to look up evans tuning to see what context you're coming from, but I'm pretty sure I've got your answer in the works. Everything's shot, I'm deep into the edits right now.
These are GREAT videos. I'm taking diesel repair at a local college and it's nice to watch these videos just to back up and study what I have learned at school. Thank you
Nice video as always, but I have to ask do we have a 2.4 liter Frankenstein stroker in the works? That would be a good build for the GSX, because I have never seen anyone do that, or possibly for the Mirage/Colt? I want to see more mirage footage. I especially want to see how you are going to wire your Mirage/Colt. Jamie needs to donate his 2.4 so you can build it for the Mirage/Colt or the GSX. To see how much power can be achieved with that setup. Thanks again for the awesome video..:-)
@Jafromobile Let me clarify, with the Hyundai 2.4 sirus motor you did the video on with Jamie. Maybe a build with that motor mixed with a Mitsu built 4G63? Just curious to see how much power can be achieved mixing the good parts from both. I hope to see the Mirage/Colt in the next coming vids, thanks for your time and effort I always watch your videos from start to finish several times. More Mirage please......:-)
@Corey3851 Correct. I'd have to mix & match the parts. That would be fine by me if the 7-bolt comes apart with just a spun rod bearing. In that case, I'll probably rebuild it and put it in a new chassis. My GSX is looooong overdue for a 6-bolt main bearing set. At 421awhp and 48,000 miles on the built, I probably hit the 7-bolt's theoretic limit. Colt videos are coming... I'm almost at the transition stage. Just need to finish this blueprint series to make room for it.
@Corey3851 Well, the only problem with that block is it's situated 180° out-of-phase from the 1g and 2g 4g63's. It's hard to bolt a non-evo drivetrain to it. It's a better swap for a GS/RS than a turbo DSM, BUT... the 2.4L crank from the Sirius II will fit in a 7-bolt DSM. I definitely want to go 6-bolt. It's overdue. There's a 2.4L 6-bolt Galant motor that would be a lot of fun, but the fastest guys are mostly still 2.0L cars. I'm not going to skimp, I promise that much.
I learn something from each of your videos. I never thought to measure the thrust bearing surface to get the clearance before assembly. I got the measurement after the assembly with a feeler gauge (your nifty electronic dial gauge will make quick and accurate work of this). Anyway nice video and thanks for the information.
@robertbaxley heheh... yeah I guess I've covered 3 different ways to measure thrust clearance now! It's good to double-check every measurement because it gives you better quality control, but 3 measurements is overkill unless you believe you can never be too careful. LOL! Theoretically you could do this just by measuring the old & new bearings by themselves. I'm just showing off.
@AllRepair Hurry up! They're almost free now, but starting to get scarce at that price! 20 years from now the unique, historic, and well preserved ones might be worth something? So long as the world still has oil!
@hp11208 But you are! Just watch the videos and then do it. ;)
You're lucky. When I was learning it, there were no forums. I was joining clubs and then subscribing to email lists once Al Gore invented the internet. I spent 2 decades screwing up before making videos... but thanks for your vote of confidence! :D
@AllRepair They were all exotics. I couldn't touch 'em. I could only clean them, and dream. What I learned at home was motivation. Most of it came from cousins and other gearhead friends with welding, machining and racing experience.
But I will say this. Sometimes it just goes "boom". That challenge is what makes it interesting. Working on cars with other gearheads is a great bonding experience, the the gratification for a job well done is instantaneous and addictive.
No really, necessity created this monster. I couldn't afford to pay someone to fix my cars, but I could afford the service manuals. I had the assistance of competent people and read all I could find about it. Generous people taught me a valuable skill. I'm just giving it back the way I got it. I'm learning even more about it making these videos. There's nothing spectacular about my background, I just have a cool camera, some experience, and the internets.
