@emmgeeo - Gerry behaves like a dickhead??? Better check your opinion at the gate bud..... Gerry was perhaps the best bassist Rory ever could have had, he was rock solid, extremely dependable, and simply always just played his heart out. And if he was good enough to last 20 years w/ Rory Gallagher, that's good enough for me.
@MrEguitarF A real, vintage one is on Ebay right now for $4000. Thats pretty high.
A new reissue is $800.
The downside is that the sound has no variety. Look up B.J. Thomas - Hooked on a Feeling and THE LEMON PIPERS- " GREEN TAMBOURINE ". Great songs, but everything played on the Coral Sitar sounds like that.
I love the Coral Electric Sitar Rory plays here. They were made for and sold by Danelectro in 1967 and '68. I believe only about 500 of them were produced. It was featured on such 60's and 70' hits as Cry Like a Baby by the Box Tops, Monterrey by Eric Burdon and the Animals, Games People Play by Joe South, to name a few. But nobody ever played it like Rory does in this clip. Gives me the shivers every time.
I am proud to say that I was lucky enough to have seen the great Rory Gallagher perform at the Old Lion in Adelaide SA shortly before his untimely demise. What a legend!
I was lucky to see him 1977 one of the concerts he gave in Greece, no many in the pocket to buy the ticket, at the end i found money and I went my parerents lost me for a week........... Nice memories fantastic show.
What goes missing in all our comments about RG is what a great bass player Gerry McAvoy was. Whenever RG changed the band, he always kept GM. That says something about RG's respect for him.
@SuperbCurmudgeon Good comment regarding Gerry. He truly is an amazing bass player, and he provided Rory with one hell of a tight backing groove for many great years.
@rkl17 Thanks for the reply. I always was impressed that no matter how many ways he changed the band, add keyboards, horns, harp, whatever, he kept "Gerry Mac" as RG called him. He seemed to have a hard time finding the perfect drummer. I think D'Ath was the best as far as playing in the band. I am a drummer and it used to drive me nuts watching him until I found out he was ambidextrous. I just know that if you got hired to play with him, you were one lucky musician. God I miss that guy!

Do anyone knows how RG gets that sound out of the guitar? What kind of effect is that? Just love it...
MrEguitarF 1 month ago
@MrEguitarF It5s not an effect, its a Coral Sitar. Its designed to play like a guitar but have the tone of a sitar
