The strategic problem from the US side was that they were fighting to preserve a fictional country called South Vietnam. While North Vietnam was fighting Indochina War round two. The U.S. by refusing to occupy the Ho Chi Minh trail in force in Laos and Cambodia permanently ceded the political initiative to the North. They could lose every battle but still win the war.

Killing civilians and farmers is not winning a war..At the end the USA was forced to pullout with no military victory in sight. They might have slaughtered more than they lost but 60000 killed is still a high number. The US did not complete any military or strategic objective and the result being that the communists took over all of Vietnam. Most American generals also admit that Vietnam was the biggest embarrassment to the US in the cold war...

the american offered those french pigs an atomic to save Dien Bien Phu, but the french are just too coward to use it. General Giap did the impossible, bringing artillery up to the surrounding hills with man power only, giving the helpless french one massive hell.

In the first open fire, general Giap wrote to an artillery shell, "say hallelujah HAHA", and that's what it was.

This is probably the greatest battle of modern day, not because the scale, but the strategy.

I'm not questioning the marines lasted a siege, I'm questioning the "only the US marines can last when surrounded" part of the sentences. Which is at best a bit overpatriotic and imply US soldiers are the best and the other suck... plenty of nations had moment in their history where a small number of their soldiers held a siege for a while.

Marines have been surrounded before by 60,000+ commies back at the Chosin reservoir, and made it out with a scratch compared to the commie casualties.

Guadalcanal is another example, no naval support, low on ammo and food, they were left alone to fend for themselves on that island against thousands of japs.

I do not question these facts, however other nations have known similar battles. Check out Bir Hakeim for France. Again my point is not to diss the US military, but to me, your post implied that only US soldiers could win in such a siege, and you called the french "silly" for being in a similar siege. Might be a misunderstanding though.

They forgot to mention the 1 million civilians that General Giap used for force labor to get most of the Vietminh's cannon up there. All those video cuts of Vietminh soldiers hauling stuff was shot after the battle by propaganda teams.

However, until the french concentrated over 95% of all french soldiers into a small region of dien bien phu and called it an invincible fortress. That is when the viet minh knew if they can take dien bien phu, then all french forces would be wiped out.

Negative. The French under estimated their enmey. The Viets knocked out French artillery within 8 hours aftre the initlal attck began. Each defensive position was attacked and wiped out. Suppling Dien Bien Phu was a nightmare.
