The things that sucks about watching these old videos is that the audio almost always sucks even when its "good" compared to todays videos. These videos dont do Layne any justice. At least we can hear how badass the instruments sound on some videos today.

His voice had changed a lot by that point, and he sang the songs differently so his voice could handle it. So, while he "nailed" them in the particular style he was singing, and it sounded great, it just wasn't the same. Nowhere near the energy, power, or conviction behind the voice.

@shianca10 Layne's father is the one who started him on drugs. Fucked up that he is still alive out there somewhere. Drugs made his lyrics at its most passionate, but it would have been nicer if he had quit after 1993.

This is a great live performance of Layne singing "Rain When I Die." Just classic Alice. And for the record, it did rain in Seattle on the day when this beautiful spirit died.

@leafgrrl thats retarded.. layne is the greatest fucking singer ever.. period. however, jerry is a fucking amazing singer and guitarst and he wrote a shitload of alices stuff. its just like acdc.... jerry always wanted to stay in alice he never wanted to do anything else. theyre new stuff sounds just like alice therefore it would be absurd to change the name. layne was a kind man. and i think he would like the friends he spent most of his life with to go on and do what they love.

@leafgrrl i agree with you completely about wishing they had called the band something else. but it's not worth protesting the band. i bet if jerry came out with a band and called it something else you would be a lot more open to listening to them. i know i would. but you're right - it isnt alice in chains without layne.

@TheDanB99 agreed totally. INow that I think about I would listen to alot more of the "new AIC" if it was named different. I still like them but it's just not the same and it's sad because I will never again hear not only The greatest musical influence to me but the greatest vocalist :other than cornell:.
