Camuel, I'm so excited to receive your reply! Thanks so much for all the info. As you say it must have been wonderful to have Tony backing YOU! I'd also love to hear you sing as you play. I hope you & yours will be very happy in your new home & I hope to hear the McManus arrangement in the future. Thanks again, Darlene
Hello Camuel, sitting here enjoying your rendition of this beautiful song. Are you familiar with the version as heard in the movie "SALT ON OUR SKIN" (1992 starring Vincent D'Onofrio). There's a wedding scene where he lipsyncs part of this song. The actual singer is Rod Paterson. This version is the sweetest I've ever heard. Would it be possible for you to post a video playing the song in the same tempo?! Will be watching & hoping for a reply. Thank you very much, Darlene (Canada)
Hi Darlene, I have heard that version and it's linked to the arrangement that I play. There was a multi CD set of Robert Burns' entire catalogue done by Linn records a few years back and my favourite guitar player, Tony McManus was involved. He did the guitar arrangement for Ye Banks & Braes and accompanied Rod Patterson singing.
I learned the arrangement from Tony and adapted it a wee bit myself. The highlight of my playing career was getting to play the tune together on stage with Tony backing ME!
I can actually sing it as I play it but I don't do that enough. I should do it more really. Maybe I'll try and do that for you when I'm set up properly in my new home (we've just moved back to Scotland).
Thank you for the nice comment! The tuning is dropped D and it's in Am but capoed up to Bm. The arrangement is based on Tony McManus's arrangement, which you can find on Volume 1 of his two-DVD set of instructional material.
thanks! it's really nice to hear proper music these days. I compose and record my own songs and instrumentals. But it's always relaxing to hear someone else play :)
tabs plz!!!
