Jordan made 22 and missed 26. Ray Allen made 15 and missed 24. Kobe made 14 and missed 42. With the exception of Ray Allen, this data sample allowed for enough time to go isolation (no catch-and-shoots with 2 sec. or less). Not hating on anyone, but this data says a lot about who's clutch and who's not.
@antih0lic93 Wow, dude, I ask you for a reliable source and you go to Bruce Blitz??? REALLY? The dude is a well-known Kobe hater and MJ lover, and is known for misrepresenting his information...I wonder why he didn't put reference websites that would back up his claims.
plus, MJ has 22 FG game-winners+ 6 FT game-winners...the list you are referring to counts 5 shots TWICE, hence either lying, or just a bad list...check again...
@sera7ares Do you know who has more game winners overall in the battle of Kobe Vs Jordan? And do they count if they lead to overtime? Cause I've seen Yahoo Answers count those in with Kobe's game winners, which I found odd.
@doddi1984 Check out my "All Kobe Bryant Game Winners" video. From what I could find, MJ has 22 game winners, and Kobe has 23 game winners. However, 1 of them was the one from the Blue vs. White USA Scrimmage game, so if we count NBA game-winners only, they're tied.
Look at my game-winner criteria, too (FG has to be under 24 seconds, and must be for the win - not for the tie to send the game to overtime, must be the game's last FG - FTs for the other team are allowed, etc.)
@sera7ares Trailing by one or two points, or tied, in the final 24 seconds of regular-season and playoff games since 1996-97, with a minimum of 30 shots, from Alok Pattani of ESPN Stats & Inforormation, Kobe has attempted 115 and only made 36. LMAO that's shotjacking at its best. Real bball fans know Kobe isn't clutch. It's just obvious if you watch the games. Only fanboys and kobe dickriders think he's clutch n he's flat out trash when compared to jordan. Real talk.
@jeenafme You just called the majority of current players, former players, legends, current coaches, former coaches, sports analysts and experts Kobe fanboys and dickriders. Well OK, whatever suits you.
@sera7ares "says a thing or two about Kobe's greatness" no, unfortunately it doesn't, rather, it speaks to the stupidity of American society. smh it's incredibly perplexing anyone would compare the two considering the nearly inestimable difference in scoring efficiency, defense, playoff performances, finals performances, scoring records, and cultural impact.
@kileer7 the last thing you said (cultural impact) is the thing that truly separates MJ from everybody else..he's become an almost mythical person, who could do no wrong in the eyes of the generation that grew up on him...whenever Kobe does something wrong, you know the following comment is "MJ wouldn't have done that"...REALLY? Even MJ (the real person) can't do what MJ (the mythical persona) "could do"
And I agree that MJ>Kobe, but Kobe is clearly the closest thing we've seen and top 10 ever.
@kileer7 I already agreed to the fact that MJ is all-time greatest...however, not by far, as it's commonly thought today...Wilt, Kareem, Russell and Magic can all make a great case for it...
So I grant all of it, MJ was the best, but this "MJ wouldn't have allowed that", or "MJ would have never lost to ____ (fill in the blank)", or "MJ wouldn't have missed that game-winning shot" etc. are all criterias that even HE couldnt live up to.
@sera7ares Ignore the Jordan homers, those guys pray to Air Jordan retro 11s. Now, I want to address the "goat" aspect. Barring Kareem I'm not sure there are any players close to MJ. in fact Kareem could legitimately be considered the greatest basketball player of all time if you look at his cumulative accomplishments and production from high school, college, and NBA.
@kileer7 lol true true...yeah Kareem has a great case. Russell tho is the greatest winner and greatest defensive player ever (which MJ was on the offensive end). Wilt didnt win many (2), but finished with 30 ppg and 25 rpg for his career...extremely impressive, regardless of which era he played in.
@sera7ares The thing about Russell that's unbelievable are his career total defensive win shares in the regular and postseason: 133.64 regular season DWS, 21.76 postseason DWS. Kareem is 2nd in DWS in regular season DWS with 94.49, Wilt is 2nd in postseason DWS with 15.81. Historically the most dominant and efficient players in NBA history are the big men.
@sera7ares Well, in terms of clutch shots under 24 seconds in the playoffs, MJ is 9 of 18 (50%). You looked up his career game winners and found out that he made 22. Did you come across how many he missed?
@jp3813 what you're talking about is Henry Abbott's recent columns, but those are based on playoff games only...it's very impressive tho, obviously. And no, unfortunately I couldn't find info on how many he's missed, but for some reason I don't find that stat that important...let me know if you find something...
The best I could find is his "failure" commercial which claims that he missed 26 game-winning shots. Don't know how accurate that is. But that would make it around 22/48 (46%).
@UR2H thanks, I gave it a look, but I didn't put the free-throws for a reason...I don't even count them as game-winners...also, eventual game-winners don't belong on this list (for example, Michael makes a basket, then the opponent misses on the next possession, after which a Bull is fouled and sent to the line, etc.)
Plus I think that list had 3 or 4 shots that were put in there twice...check it again, and then check other websites as well...
@sera7ares No you're right, there was 4 that were in there twice. And one which doesn't even check out to be a legit game. Hmmm....which leaves 28 game winners, 22 from FG's. So your list seems on point.
@macoy346 nah, I found 4-5 lists that agreed with mine...so I'm 99% sure this is final...BUT if you offer some evidence that I'm wrong, I'm opened to changing it :))
