Is Sneaky Pete even playing in this version...or is his track left out? The LP I have has him playing a sweet steel pedal guitar through to the next song.
I'm very happy that Argentina(!) watches my "video" . Thanks ! Of course the reason that solo sounds so much like the Burritos & Parsons etc is that it is Pete Kleinow on the steel pedal guitar. You're right - I feel the same way about that part of the song. Thanks again ! (PS Happy summer solstice - in three days !)
@rolossining haha u wellcome! ur right on being surprise bc there isn't too many ppl around here that like or even know about this music..it's a shame,I wish the entire world could get to know "cosmic american music" like Parsons called once. And,I didn't know that was Kleinow on the guitar! so thanks for the info! guess at least I have good ear for the music, dont ya think? :p Thanks again 4sharing, it's so useful to people like me that haven't other ways to get to know this wonderful musicians!
@rolossining (PS. Happy winter solstice to you! - Regarding to here..the extreme temperatures-almost 100 F today-, the heat, humidity and mosquitos makes the solstice have nothing of the "magic" that it supposed to have..so it's evident that Shakespeare wasn't living in Argentina when wrote the "Midsummer night's dream".. bc in that case it would have to be called "A midsummer nightmare" haha)
@rolossining Sneaky Pete Kleinow was one of the most popular steel players in the late 60's to early 70's. He did a lot of session work and can be found in the credits of albums by artists as diverse as Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt, the Stones, and Stevie Wonder.
OMG I totaly love the electric guitar on this song! I love Eagles but I have to recognize that Browne's version is so much better...not so "commercial". Even when the banjo on Eagle's version add a particular touch to the song, on this one the whole package is danm perfect!! The solo on the min 1.37 to 2.05 remind me to Burrito Brothers/Gram Parsons/Byrds and those golden times ♥it ♥it ♥it Thanks for sharing @rolossining!! Greetings from Argentina :)
@antdigger Jackson Browne wrote it in the first place and gave it to the Eagles. Glenn Frey finished the 2nd verse and got a co-writing credit. Yes, the Eagles released their version first, but I still consider this to really be Jackson's song. This version, though not a hit, was better than the Eagles version.
Well original or not or which one went to publication first . JB has claim to the song and this version is like the original poster mentioned a great version with the seque to Lady of the well. Sneaky Pete on the phase shifted pedal-steel. Music is never one sided and I love alternate interpretations. What better than one of the composer's
You guys should check the story of how this song was minutes away from being tossed in Jackson's shit can. The short of it is Glen was living in the same apartment building and kept hearing Browne working this piece. Glen pops in and says something like "Yo! what's with that piece you were working on?" Browne's response was like "I tossed it. You want it?" Take it. 'Southern California' was changed to 'Winslow Arizona'. And,, well ya'll know the rest.
Not taking anything away from The Eagles, but I prefer this version. Especially how it segues into Our Lady Of The Well. This was one of his best albums.
to all the nubs... jackson browne wrote this song. that is all

One of the great parts of this song is the pedal steel, played by "sneaky Pete"......

@arturoewallis No, the original is The Eagles'. But still, I love this version :D

@ularpadatus ......What a meant was the original Jackson Browne studio recording instead of the live versions..
Remenber that this song was written by Glenn Frey AND Jackson Browne. Many ,including Frey say that the actual autor is Browne..
arturoewallis 6 months ago
@arturoewallis I see, thanks for clearing that up, mate. Browne is indeed a talented song-writer.
