I'm french, but I'm fond of Russian culture, my father often listened to the Alexandrov Ensemble, that's why I also like them very much...since chilhood.
Yevgueny Belyaev had more self-confidence, a strong personality and a lot of vitality in relation to his present colleagues due to the fact that he fought against the Nazis very young (he was 17-19 years old), and he survived this terrible war.
I have to say too, that I prefer their former uniform...they had more imposing bearing!
Now I try to have more information about Victor Nikitin thanks to my friends in the Alexandrov Ensemble and I will also write to Mr Kharitonov, the son.
Thank you so much for this information. I shall add it to the Wikipedia page (English version). I am surprised that this information is not well-known in the West, since it happened in the USA. I would be interested to know what his personality was like. Some of his songs show a great and witty sense of humour - including "You are always beautiful".
I did see an English translation somewhere - can't find it at the moment. It's a love song by a fiance to his bride-to-be, looking forward to the wedding. If I find it, I'll put it in the descrip.
Припев: Погоним скоро улицей Мы свадебных коней. Ты станешь в жизни спутницей И песнею моей. Припев: Зажглась заря вечерняя Над речкой голубой, Прохладен вечер северный, А мне тепло с тобой.
At last, because of you I have found it, and there was some assistance from someone else whom I owe thanks separately. I am not a communist and never was. But my parents had this song on an LP with French titles Vous ette toujoure jolly (I am sure I misspelled it)- I am talking about the late fifties here in Israel. Most of our music was and still is, influenced by the Russian origin
Hi ulik888. Greetings and Happy New Year to Israel. The correct spelling of your French title would be "Vous etes toujours jolie", although "Tu es toujours jolie" would make more sense, because the song is addressed to the singer's fiancee, and "tu" is the familiar version of "you". I don't know whether the Ensemble recorded this in France in the 50s, but they did record it in London 1956.
Then perhaps you can give me a lesson in return? I speak no Russian. I have uploaded the vid: "004 Vinogradov documentary film (part 4)" and I would love to know (briefly) what Vinogradov says when he is interviewed at the end of this section 4, and what is written on his music score. At present, this is the only known surviving film of him.
Simply one of the most beautiful things i have ever heard. Perfect. His voice, the awe-inspiring choir, the magnificent balalaikas and just the whole thing......thank you sooooooooooooooooooo much for this. I thought i'd never hear it again.
Hi peejoui, and holiday greetings. Glad you enjoyed the song. It has been my favourite since I first heard it in about 1970. I was a young mum then, and I used to stop work and stand still while Belyaev sang. In those days we didn't know who he was, how old he was or what he looked like.
Well i'll be bu****ed! It was around then that i first heard it. I was 10 and mam and dad had gone to see them on one of their tours. Soon after, an LP appeared and me being a proto-communist i just had to listen in ;) I've loved it ever since, but i now own the LP but no record player.
Hahaha peejoui, it's a similar story for all of us. I first heard it on a reel-to-reel tape, and both it and the player were borrowed. It would have been the 1956 London recording that I heard, and I'm puzzled that I've never heard quite that same version again: I'm sure Belyaev only got one verse, and different parts of the choir got other verses, with a tutti at the end. Have I mis-remembered?
Evgeny Belyaev is sooooo sweet!! by the way after hearing this several times, I want this song being my wedding song someday *whoops I'm still 16* ;)

This is one of my favourite song for a long time! His voice is so beautiful...
I had some information about Yevgueny Belyaev from the artists of the Alexandrov Ensemble themselves...
I'm very glad to see at last this great singer, after listening to him since 35 years!
In the 90s he sung with the Red Star Red Army chorus and unfortunately he died of a heart attack in 1994 during a tour in the USA with this ensemble.

Всегда ты хороша,

Припев: Веселая и грустная,
Всегда ты хороша,
Как наша песня русская
Как русская душа!
С тобою годы долгие
Без горя проживешь,
С тобою, синеокая,
Нигде не пропадешь.

Thank you
French is not a Terra Cognita in my mind - Russian is
thanks for the lesson and hope you heard the London version it is the same
God bless you!
