  • For a minute there, it sounded like the two trains were on collision course!!

  • In August 1976, I rode the Silver Star from Columbia, SC to Orlando, FL and visited Sea World and Disney World.

  • I saw two diner cars on Silver Star? I guess there should be only one....

  • What were the boxcars on the end of the Amtrak for? I know that the Southwest Chief used to pull them as well. At one time they preceded the baggage and passenger cars, but I think they were later put at the rear end of the train, as evidently on the Silver Star.

  • Neat horn action! Amtrak's Nathan K5LA horn vs the CSX's Nathan K5H. Both melodic.

  • which one's the deeper and the shallow one

  • The lower pitched horn that's on the Amtrak unit is the Nathan K5LA. Check out DieselAirhorns website. When you get there, click on "Sound Library". Lots of good horn samples.

  • Initially I am facing south and the Amtrak is headed north; right behind me is a wye that sends trains to Baldwin, FL [a route not used by Amtrak]. If you look closely in the latter third of the video, you can see the freight headed off camera to the left. That's the other horn you hear, as both trains are sounding for the compound crossing.

  • From Jacksonville too. :D

  • I am getting on that train tomorrow. :)
