  • OMG!!! (Oh My Gilbert=>god)

  • i can do everything and the bach piece except 2:51 :(((

  • He really has the easiest tone to copy. He needs to get some good/unique tone. Though his playing is awesome as it is.

  • @hydralisk3313 I disagree, it might be easy to get it in the ballpark, but getting it close is very hard.

  • 1:04 Paul Gilbert has some goddamn swag.

  • paul gilbert is the best.........

  • paul gilbert is a fountain of awesomeness!

  • he plays faster as you are able to imagine

  • @MrKlatschreporter faster than** ...

  • All this music theory here is just boring... Try to enjoy the music if you can or go out, play for years, get famous, write songs, post videos on youtube and then laugh about comments like yours...

  • @halby720 Not every successful musician simply plucks songs out of their butt, makes boat loads of money, and lives happily ever after. All that "boring" music theory exists for a reason. It exists to assist musicians in expressing themselves and sharing their music with others. My guess is that the overwhelming majority of serious musicians would laugh at your comment rather than the ones you're attacking.

  • @wlmason73 there's a time and place to take music theory lessons and my guess is that this isn't the right place neither the right time. There are tons of forums, schools or something else where you can go into...

Anyway this is just my opinion, peace...

  • 9 Persons are def!! omg!!

  • The intro had sent me into a cosmic world. Paul <3 This song definetely cheered me up :)

  • 1 year and only 8 thumbs up.....

  • CAN'T BELIEVE I HAD NEVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE!!!! IT'S SO COOL

  • bach piece at the end please? need the name thanks

  • @joeylodes It is a prelude of the WTC, the GM one (Book 1).

  • @juan78980 thank you :)

  • The tapping intro sounds like a soundtrack that you'll hear when fighting against a final boss in a N64 game

  • The tapping intro is epic....

  • 2:30 jiiiiiiiizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • If I listen to this anymore, I'll break the replay button!

  • Warning Tagalog: Putang ina ang lupet! Idol!

  • I mostly hear Malmsteen in there but as all great guitarist do, they do have their own styles and signatures. While I tend to lean towards the earlier players such as Van Halen, Blackmore, Rhodes and Satriani.... Paul defiantly is right there with his style. The man can shred. One of the best shows I saw was when he joined Satch & Petrucci on the G3 tour in 07. I liked it better than the shows with Vai.. Just not a huge Vai fan personally.

  • @SamediaMarketing

    @SamediaMarketing

Sorry, but outside of the part at the 3:45 mark, there is really no Malmsteenish playing in there and nothing very "neo-classical" about this at all. If anything, this could be compared to something Satch or Vai would write. PG at times does show his Malmsteen influences but not here.

  • :28 to me sounds like Paul wanted this song put into a car commercial for like some car company or something. It sounds badass as dicks, yet its something everyone can enjoy, whether its those stupid indy hipster fags, or the super hardcore XXX deathcore XXX fags.

  • Great technique, especially on the intro. Just remember, whatever the key signature is or what mode it's in is irrelevant, the song is great. I'm sure Paul did'nt sit there worrying about flat 5th that technically is not supposed to be there.

  • Top tune

  • G, U R SURE ALL DIATONIC IN THE KEY OF GAY FLAT

shut the fuck up and jam out.

  • @trinoply That was so funny I laughed so hard and fell off my chair.

Get a life and learn some real insults.

  • @OliverEtherington

I think you missed the point of my comment. Please reread and form a proper response.

  • This is the single greatest piece of music ever written.

  • @troidin

As awesome as this song is, I must respectfully disagree.

  • It's transposing in half steps :D SEE for yourself if you don't hear it. ALSO: n.c. so I'd say the very nature of this lick has no root note... Even though it could be a modal pattern. Basically you can't agrue against this. If I play a diminished chord lick and consider it atonal, you can say it's harmonic minor. Ok, but which 1 of the 4? If there's even one scale note missing from the seven in PG's lick and n.c. background, I could say its not major.

  • @Arttu1Logic NAMM Eudaimonia Overture for example.

  • paul is my god..forever and ever... hell fucking AMEN!!!!!!

  • For some reason last time I listened to this I didn't like it, what the hell was wrong with me

  • @Sergiolka wtf r u saying

  • id like this to be played at my funeral

  • @spray32 lol

  • @spray32 I'd agree with you, but I (thanks to years of denial), plan to never die.

  • @samgrahaminc hahahah cool

  • @spray32 Haven't died yet, so until I'm proven otherwise, I could be immortal for all I know.

  • also, reminds me of sonic the hedgehog :P

  • such happy music! im a drummer and i love this! :D

  • fuck my head exploded at 0.03!

  • why the hell is steve vai's picture doin in the Paul Gilbert mix

  • @ianlorenz13 Probably G3

  • Why do I feel so freaking happy when I hear this song?

  • Its an insanely up beat song

  • anyone knows which classical song did paul gilbert take from for the last part?

  • @Likui

Bach's Prelude in G major from the Well-Tempered Clavier Book 1. (according to wikipdia)

  • paul gilbert is a one master of guitar

  • thats fucking amazing.

  • fuck yes. paul found his sound. this is paul's heart and soul that we have been waiting for. he was truly so happy during the making of this album. I am so happy for him to. this album is magical.

  • my fav song from this album. the album is great too. paul is one of the greatest guitarists in the world!!

  • i love the classical sounding part at 3:44 to the end..straight up pwns everything.ahahah paul gilbert is freaking great!

  • its a bach piece.

  • @huyiy nah mate you are baching up the wrong tree! (haha)

  • @thebengreenmusic

Don't mess with Paul. He'll Bach you up! Lame joke, but so what.

This song totally made my day. Woke up and listened to Paul Gilbert and Mr.Big for almost 2 hours before school. I need to get my guitar (I play bass) so I can learn some of this stuff too. Gotta play this stuff at the High School concerts. Only a few years before it happens. I can play all of my music there. So I can play Racer X one day, then the next some Megadeth and even some Reggae! Hawaii is awesome...

  • HEs sooooooo good, like you cant even tell in this song thats how good he is. i wish i was like him

  • and most epic outro too :P

  • i beleive he is heterosexual

  • @1985guy1985 His marriage is kinda proof of that...

  • @danukenator123 Paul?? Married?? Shit. I never knew. He looks too young. WAY too young.

  • @ShadowLancer128 paul too young ? hes 147 years old .it takes time to get that good.

  • @MUDSHARK111 lol.

  • @ShadowLancer128 hahaha he was rocking out on tv in the 90's hell im born in 1991 and thats 19 years ago lol

  • @theflyingdutchmanxD me too. I was just born in December, so Im only 18 right now. Just graduated, and headed to college to do what he's doing today!

  • @ShadowLancer128 im born in august so im still 18 too =]

  • @theflyingdutchmanxD lol, nothing to be ashamed of! 90's ppl FTW. 80's rock ftw?

  • 80's>90's There was great stuff in the 90's but that was when it went to shit, with this hardcore and scene-metal shit

  • paul > god

  • i love this song/when i get good in guitar its the first id learn

  • THIS GUY IS BRILLIANT

  • Brilliant, he's all knowing.

    Paul = God.

  • Paul= Above God

  • If we knew what Paul really is, our head's would expload

  • lol guys hes a great guitar player but he didnt make this song its an old piano peice. but he made it way better =)

  • @throneoflunacy I have no doubts he could write something similar!

  • No, the last part is a piano piece. The rest of it is by him

  • oh sorry, my fault.

  • I like your screen name :)

    The Black Dahlia Murder ftw!!

Black Valor and Eyes of Thousand :)

  • damn straight

  • can you send me the link to this piano piece or the sheet music?

  • This guy has more talent in his pinky then I have in both my hands :(

You are THE God Mr. Gilbert!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I'd kill for the job 0:33

  • that is brilliant and great

  • This song...there is no way to describe the full extent of it...

  • :D, so awesome

  • thats the soul!

  • beastly

  • beauty

  • Man, I wish I could add Bach preludes to the outros of my songs. :(

    Paul's too good.

  • the intro sounds like something Buckethead would do. Both Paul and Buckethead are very amazing!

  • But we all know Paul is the real king

    ;)

  • hells yeah

  • after the drums kick in it has a sort of happy foo fighters feel? anyone else hear that?

  • If you knew what eudaimonia meant then you'd understand the happiness of the song :)

  • It's an old piano piece

  • you know buckethead is my favorite guitarist but i have to admit paul's music is better he makes you actually feel the music not just listen to it

  • The ending is note for note the same as Bach's WTC1 No. 15 in G major! check that shit out !!!

  • he is so good, that i now understand trig.

  • paul is the man\..\

  • PG = God! He has everything! Brilliant rhythm, excellent chops, super melodic phrasing, is there anything musical that PG does not possess? I defy ANYONE to tell me a single place in music where PG falls short.

  • he falls short in sucking

  • he might not be able to play the bagpipes or the didgeridoo

  • Possibly true, but I wont discount it as an impossibility!

  • rofl

  • Sweep picking from high to low. He says it himself.

  • Actually, i have heard that he can do it, although doesnt like to do it that way and skips strings instead. Wouldnt know though since I have not met him and probs never will!

  • Sweet. The string skipping sounds better anyway.

  • yeah thats kinda true sounds like a sega game

  • Really good song its really cool to listen to rock on paul gilbert.

  • the intro sounds like buckethead

  • buckethead sounds like the intro

  • Must dissagree with you there, Buckethead has incorporated chromatic licks so heavily into his style for so long that it's kinda HIS thing.

Don't get me wrong Paul Gilbert and Buckethead are my guitar idols, but Buckethead has taken these type of licks further than Paul has by leaps and bounds.

Doesn't make Paul any less incredible, but give Buckethead is due.

  • really? cuz i kinda figured that chromatic licks are any fusion player, or flamenco player, or jazz players "things". no disrespect but it's not bucketheads "thing" he's a good guitarist but his "thing" is his live shows.

  • @IDoneYourMum maybe, but paul gilbert was bucketheads teacher, so everythin buckethead plays sounds like paul gilbert haha

  • @IDoneYourMum actually buckethead sounds like paul cause he is the one that taught him

  • @XavSch

    Paul came before buckethead.

    onto your mom's chest.

  • @Daim0th thats what i said >.> really uncalled for, man, and look at you, the only thing you got was making yourself look like an asshole... read the comments before making a stupid statement

  • @XavSch Lol they sound nothing alike. Compare more then single songs and thats obvious.

  • @danukenator123 the first fckin lick of the song sounds like something buckethead would do, unless youre tone deaf and cant recognize it, like REALLY... i didn't say the song itself was buckethead-ish but at least the first lick IS

  • @XavSch If you think that tapping makes you sound like Buckethead then you are retarded. So buckethead sounds like Eddie Van Halen now? According to you he does, but you are retarded.

  • @danukenator123 what im saying is that the tapping made in that style (atonal style) is like buckethead, and if you're trying to invent arguments with no valid point whatsoever, you're making yourself look like the fcking retard, so please go back to your fucking crib and suck your thumb... good day motherfucker >.>

  • @XavSch The thing is...this isn't atonal tapping. Speaking of inventing arguments....

  • @danukenator123 speaking of your comment... it actually IS, cuz it doesn't follow a specific scale or tone, it's just the same scheme being tapped in several strings, making the whole lick unable of being in a scale... A.K.A.: ATONAL! do you even know how to play the guitar? like REALLY?

  • @XavSch How about this, explain why this is atonal.

  • @XavSch The notes A, B, C, D, E, G, Gb are no longer in the key of G? You can't be pedantic and stupid at the same time.

  • Comment removed

  • @danukenator123 notice that there's chromaticism in that pattern later on, making it impossible to keep in that friggin tone... not only are you PEDANTIC and STUPID, but you're also acomplishing to be TONE DEAF? wow... just wow...

  • @XavSch I will dumb this down. This is in the key of G. At the very end of the lick, it is for effect and is not obviously any key or even chromatic, it is just random. All but the very end of the riff is totally in key. Don't believe me? I checked every note of the pattern across all the strings and it is in the Key of G.

  • @danukenator123 i do believe that, but at least i consider the chromaticism a part of the lick... and to end all this crap... WHY THE FUCK DID U MAKE THAT STUPID FUCKIN FIRST COMMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE??? I WAS SAYING EXACTLY THE SAME AS YOU DUDE, AND U HAD TO MAKE THAT LAME PUN, DIDN'T YOU? R U TRYING TO GET YOUR DAD'S APPROVAL OR SOMETHING? LIKE REALLY?!?! COME ON!

  • @XavSch The first part isn't chromatic and as for the rest of your comment...call the waaaambulance.

  • @danukenator123 okay, then i'll just assume ur a worthless and lifeless faggot :D

  • @XavSch At least I understand basic music theory :D

  • @danukenator123 lol i do, and i understand that music isn't an objective thing amongst comparisons, so i can perfectly say whatever i think sounds alike paul gilbert or buckethead an no one has the right to say i'm wrong, even if the harmony says the contrary, and i even said that i agreed, but that i considered the chromaticism in the end an atonality, but everyone has got their beliefs, hope u can understand that and just stop trolling out of nowhere :D

  • Comment removed

  • @danukenator123 also, my channel isn't based upon guitar hero crap

  • @XavSch That doesn't change the fact that I know more theory than you do. You were just trying to argue that a lick that was entirely in the Key of G (checked the ending, thats in G as well) was chromatic. You can consider the ending to be atonal and chromatic but your still wrong. Its akin to saying 2+2=5 and arguing that its all about opinion.

  • @danukenator123 lol but you're not going anywhere, cuz im not changing my mind :] haven't u got anything else more important to do more than hating on someone? xD

  • @danukenator123 "A, B, C, D, E, G, Gb" obviously F# and Gb and technically the same note. but when you label it just like you did ascending it should be F#

also the 12-17-19 lick is in Gmaj pentatonic, in a diatonic/dorian mode of positioning

you are the one who is stupid for trying to troll someone with no fact behind your argument

  • @justinhoman ...and that is in the key of Gmaj...

  • @danukenator123 Gmaj except for the diatonic flat 5th that doesnt belong. making it not Gmaj.... but E dorian.for that matter. try again dude. you fail again

  • @justinhoman E dorian and G Major (Ionian) have the same key signature (1 sharp F#)

  • @occlto if you knew how to read i said he goes diatonic in it which would be C#. making the signature have two sharps. so.... you're a fuckin idiot. point resolved

  • @occlto E dorian has two sharps - F# and C#. E Dorian is equivalent to D Ionian - they both have an F# and a C#. G ionian is equivalent to A dorian. And you don't use key signatures for modes, that's not how they work.

  • @stratdax yeah, it was way too late for me to be talking. i realized how wrong i was shortly after waking up this morning.

  • @danukenator123 both of you (justinhoman) should read my point below and drop it. You don't have to hear it, you can see the ½ step movement in a live video.

  • @Arttu1Logic of course he goes half steps at the end. thats why my post said he goes diatonic in the signature adding C# into it. if you take the time and do every note he does in the half step phase at the end its still the signature of Gmaj and E maj dorian. and also like to add that the first note you would have for the Emaj pent. scale is C# which adds to my diatonic point. so thank you and get a degree in music like i did

  • I love how the beginning sounds like a video game!
