Wow...I haven't even seen this movie yet b/c I thought It would be scary---but this scene was soo emotional. It got to me & now I'm about to watch the whole movie. BTW: Joel & emily look like twins.
I don't quite know why but this is hands down one of the best scenes of all times. Sixth Sense is one of my favorite movies but there is something about this scene that stands out from the rest of the movie (acting, direction, script... perfect). Thanks for posting this.
Oh my G_d I'm teliing you.. I CANNOT watch this without getting all misty eyed!!! What a powerful and moving scene!!! Gets me every time!!!
This movie was great. And what a twist at the end- NEVER would have expected that. Definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen. I can watch it over and over again and not get bored with it. Also love the scene with the couple and the Burmese Sapphire ring when the woman says "Does he have dark wavy hair and chestnut eyes?" HAHAHA!!! Hysterical!!!
What I meant to say was: I'm right there with you- definitely my absolute favorite SCENE of this movie. I watch it over and over again and I never get tired of it. Makes me tear up every time!!! : (
So touching!!! Great acting on the parts of Haley Joel Osment and Toni Colette...they are so genuine and believable!
I meant "scene"- not "seen". I can spell!!! Really I can!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
I'm right there with you- definitely my absolute favorite seen of this movie. I watch it over and over again and I never get tired of it. Makes me tear up every time!!! : (
So touching!!! Great acting on the parts of Haley Joel Osment and Toni Colette...they are so genuine and believable!
I still think the scene where the father of the little girl who died finds out that his wife had been poisoning her is a little bit sadder than this scene, but this scene is still very moving.
Toni did this in one take. They did all of Haley's shots first, and then turned the camera on her and did this one take. And it was so good they didn't go in for a closer shot, they left it as is. One of the most phenomenal takes in cinema I think!
@jposkitt It was on the DVD extras, in an interview with M. Night Shyamalan I think. He said it because you'll notice the scene gets progressively closer on Haley's face, but not Toni's, because her performance was a single take.
@jeumort ah! i see! i own the dvd, too, but it's been awhile since i've absorbed it all in...will have to check it out again, haha...yeah, Toni's performance is SUPERB!! : ) I remember when this film came out; I was a few years older than Haley J. Osment and thinking omg...i'm not going to sleep tonight...or ever!! i had to use the bathroom and was terrified that some random dead lady would go walking past the door, lol. It's amazing how everyday ppl (as actors) can leave such lasting FX.....
Probably the best scene from any movie ever. Then again, this movie is full of scenes this powerful. Who says a scene has to be loud and full of action to be good?
Toni Collette steals this scene with her emotional reaction to what he is telling her. That is why she got an Oscar nomination. Some of the best acting I've seen. She's amazing.
i love living under a rock. first time i saw this movie was a year or so ago and i flipped when i saw the ending. thank you sir rock for keeping out spoilers
This is my favorite scene from the film also. Toni Colette's performance is absolutely brilliant; she shows not only talent here, but genius in my opinion - naturalistic, understated film acting at its very best (pay special attention to her reaction beginning at around 3:43). Haley Joel should have won the Oscar that year.
To any Kingdom Hearts fans like me who may be here: Haley Joel Osment did the voice for Sora about three years after this. He has always been an incredibly good actor, both in movies and voice acting. This is an amazing film.
Superb performance by Haley Joel Osment but for me, Toni Colette is simply outstanding here. If this doesn't move you, its time to go back to your own planet...
@maeflower522 I don't know about you, but Die Hard (1988) made me cry. The scene where he's in the bathroom, and he cut his foot on the broken glass, and he's telling Reginald VelJohnson's character to pass on his message to his ex-wife. Tears were literally streaming down my face.
yeah best scene. doesnt make sense this film tho..how can he not know hes dead? a year on and we are supposed to believe hes never tried to speak to anyone else and hasnt sussed ppl are ignoring him? plain ridiculous! what about trying to speak or touch his wife or anyone?!? what about his own funeral?! and how can he even pick stuff up? how does he arrange to be this kids physcologist? what about when he gets into bed..it completely suspends belief, he would realise he was dead from day 1
@dageezerboi The idea is that as a ghost, you are essentially stuck in a place that lies between the physical world and a creation of your own mind. You interact with the world in a way that is familiar to you, and are simply ignorant of any part of reality that contradicts what you knew. Similar to how people subconsciously block out traumatic experiences.
Regardless of whether you believe any of this or not, this is the plot device the movie is going off of.
@burnttoastmuffins except this is wayyyy creepier. ghosts in the mediator don't come back the way they die, they don't walk around with axes in their heads or throwing up all over the place.
