you should cut the intros of your question, that way we can see more clearly your options, anyways, there's no decisive answer to "who's the best bassist ever?" but i would put a list of 30 names that should be considered.
anyways, what i can tell you is that Chris Squire (Yes) is one of the top bassists of all time and my personal favorite.
@rodcrippler as far as rock bassists are concerned john entwistle for his technique, and jack bruce as far as innovation goes, they have to be top (or very near)
