  • I love the ex ATN 142s,

they are comfortable, warm, sound great, well maintained and they look good inside!

Much better than the disgusting ex FNW and merseyrail ones!!

  • I really like pacers! They are far better than sprinters! The humming sound that comes from the pacers is brilliant! And they look better than sprinters too! Cool vid! 5*

  • Not all the 141s were exported to iran, a handful are still in opperation in the uk on preserved lines, soon i think im gonna go on a 141 hunting trip!!!:D

  • Try Weardale Railway's 141103. Also Telford Railway have the single car prototype Railbus RB004 in service.

  • Not to mention that the Keith and Dufftown railway have a class 140 protoype (albeit not in service).

  • You could also try 141113 on the Midland Railway Centre, Butterley - they've just restored it a couple of years back. It's the only 141 to be fitted with Cummins engines, instead of the usual Leyland TL11 ones.

  • I was born shortly after the 142s were introduced an they are really no bumpier than a bus. It's a very enjoyable experience to be on a Pacer.

  • well, any except MiseryRal ones!

  • The 143s are my favourites! :D

  • I gather all the class 141 (Leyland National 2) units were exported to Iran? How did this happen, I thought we had a trade embargo against them?

  • Nice to find someone else who likes the pacers! I'm in Cardiff so I doubt arriva trains wales will be getting rid of theirs any time soon?

  • I love the pacer trains. I hate standing at the station waiting for a train to arrive and some smelly, butt ugly sprinter turns up. I've never experienced much of a rough ride on the pacers; they're nice and bright, and their humming sound is like music to my ears.

  • People who like Pacers are wierd. Try something loco hauled...get to your nearest preserved line for something that makes a half decent noise today!

  • Loco hauled pollutes the earth. Pacers are great as they produce the lowest greenhouse gas, and the bounce makes a train worth while, we are humans, not something that is fragile, have a little bump in your life.

  • A pacer can't hold 400 passengers...

  • They can if they couple them together.

  • You're saying Pacers don't make a half decent noise?

  • i prefer the class144 they are just had uniqe had the class142

  • The Class 142/143/144s are quite interesting in the sense of British Ingenuity (stay with me on this)! The requirement was to build, CHEAPLY, some new DMUs to replace the 'Heritage' units (Class 101's etc). The first 'new' DMUs were of course these class 142s etc and they were basically buses converted into trains. Only the British could do something like that LOL. Ok it makes us look cheap...but it does show up the ingenuity! Agree/Disagree???

  • Last time I travelled on thius train (as far as Thornaby) it was steam-hauled by an 'A5' with NER clerestory coaches!

  • my main memories of 142s are better than 153s. I was refused onto a 153 in wales. it was too full. Instead i waited and travelled on one of the few running loco hauled trains with mark 1 stock. i think it was a 56 that hauled the train though i was young at the time. the 142s always were the start of my journeys by train and so hold better memories. I will miss the 142s more than the 153s when they do go.

  • 142s are the best trains ever.

  • the class 142 was that bad that they all had to be re-engineered with cummins engines & voith transmissions because they were rubbish. They ride like a bucking donkey & drivers hate them. Historic line yes, but the old class 101 & newer 153`s are so so superior!

  • The original drivelines were only updated versions of the ones under first generation DMUs. The TL11 engine was an updated & turbocharged version of the 680 found on the class 101s and the SCG R500 gearbox was from what I gather an updated version of the gearboxes in first generation DMUs but fully automatic. Most of the first gen DMUs rode worse than Pcacers apart from some of the last ones that used MK2 coach bogies.

  • But also, one of the reasons for the video was to show the wonderfull little, very hard working class 142 against the beauty and slendor or Darlingron Bank Top Station.

  • Bishop Auckland is actually quite a nice little town. The line to Bishop Auckland passes through quite a lot of old Railway History and there for is a very interesting line to travel on. The Bishop Aucland branch might not even be here now if it wasn't for the class 142. There cheap build and cheap to run nature help stem some of the losses of the Bishop Aucland branch line.

  • ever travelled on one to Bishop Auckland? Cack Line, Cack train, Cack Town nuff sed

  • I like the little 142's. Although i must be the only one!

  • railcar! yaak yaaak yaak, i can almost smell the poor people from Middlesborough from here

  • railcar --- urgh!

  • Cool vid, k
