crimson trace over pushing a button to activate a laser 8 days a week. No chance if you have to draw your gun in a high stress situation where seconds mean life or death can you push the button on the BG. For this reason I chose the LCP and am 100% happy. No problems with ammo what so ever, and accuracy is great. If your looking for a gun with good sights to hit from 15-20 yards your shopping for the wrong gun, get a 1911! Both are great 380s hands down, I just went with the LCP CT
i own both...BG380 is better.......first off,I have never snagged a pistol in my life lets get that out of the way.////BG380 slide lock on last shot is the deal winner for me,it eats every ammo,LCPs are pickier on ammo,BG gun looks better and more stealthy and has real sights...LCP looks like a mistake once you add that silly lazer has no sights and is a keltec copy...S&W is original looking too.....I own several of each brand,Ruger has not had an original idea of its own in handguns ever
every video i've seen and read have always started with many+++'s about the bodyguard; Grouping, feel, and so many other things but, why is the LCP always the one that in the end of these reviews comes out as the obvious choice?
LCP - I think the BG lock back feature is so you can never say - I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire seven shots or only six?" I only carry one mag for my BUG as most people. Lock back is a good feature if reloading or left hand wounded but by then you should be taking cover or be running from your threat.
Is the BG really approved for +p ammo? If so that might be a really really big plus for it? I was pretty set on getting the ruger lcp today but if the BG really can handle
sights on a micro-pistol like these are almost as silly as lasers. whatever is the cleanest and lightest (and of course reliable) wins in this category in my opinion. if SW has a lighter/cleaner (no laser) frame and zero profile sight option then i may give it the edge because I think it's approved for +p ammo.
The great thing about the Crimson Trace and LCP is you can practice aiming by pointing, then turning on the laser to see if you are aiming at you intended spot. After practice you get to the point where you will be on target every time. Hence there is really no need for sights, just practice! The gun becomes an extension of you hand.
I have a couple of frisky cats that make for great laser-target practice
After making the laser buttons easy to press on the BG and the smoothness and accuracy it has with point and sight shooting I have to say overall I like the BG better. The grip is better, hands down and the trigger gets really good with break in. It's a close call though, either are great but having a laser on all the time can be a disadvantage too and the laser really only comes into play to extend the range. At 15 feet better to surprise the bad guy with muzzle flash first.
Sights on civilian "last resort" pistols like these are secondary when you have a laser. Why? Because you are likely to be in a point-shoot situation, not one where you can get your text-book method front sight and a proper sight picture. Surprised, engagement range 10 yards or less - simply presenting the firearm can be an issue, much less proper sighting with iron sights, adrenaline etc. If you are stuck in a point-shoot situation laser points the rounds where you want them. K.I.S.S.
The LCP has a much better engagement for the laser, YOU JUST GRAB THE GUN!
The BG's laser button is truly something that you won't have time to fiddle with if you're in the split second situation that guns are needed for in the 1st place.
I do like the last rd hold open of the BG, but that's after the firing is over so there's little benefit to it other than in a range for convenience.
Finally, with the LCP's excellent laser button position, you don't need sights at all anyway.
You bring up good points the Ruger is a lighter gun and the laser is easier to activate, however which of the 2 is the more accurate. Also its important that the slided stay open in the last round so that in the excitement of the fight u know right away when to put in another mag. so far I like the Kahr .P380 better than both.
The BG is a joke. Who will have time to activate the laser in a critical defense situation? The Ruger LCP with Crimson Trace laser is the class of the field. Sure it's a Keltec ripoff, but unlike most rip offs this one is actually far better than the original.
why the bodyguard ,,those might say you have to turn the laser on ,well the button is where your finger should be to turn it on and not on the trigger, slide lock is good too let's you know when you are out and after reload release it, sights are great too, and if anything goes wrong today or years from now send it in free..and yes it even has a safety..looks possible night site for after market if someone decides to make them for the pistol.and it looks sexy as hell to boot.1000 plus thru mine
after looking at both I choose the Smith. The LCP just feels cheap compared to the bodyguard. Call me all fashion, but you can't go wrong with a Smith and Wesson art your side
I have owned an LCP, Keltec and TCP out of the 3 the Taurus IMO is the best. Not owned the S&W yet, but will be picking one up for my wife's CC in the next week or so...She likes the fact that "for her" the grip is better on the S&W. The reviews I have seen, other than 2 on the take down lever are all positive...we'll be experimenting with the S&W real soon!
They are both very nice guns. The only thing that made me choose the Bodyguard over the LCP was the fact that the Bodyguard is double action. LCP has to be racked first, whereas the bodyguard doesn't. Most of the time this wont matter, but it was the only thing I didn't like about the LCP.
@nixxx00 The Body Guard is the hands down choice, why? you cannot shoot the Ruger unless you rack the slide first. The body guard is always ready, and always safe to shoot as soon as needed. Real double action.
Than the last shot lock back lets you know,no more ammo not after you pulled the trigger on a empty chamber
the Laser Built in, and it has real sights. The trigger pull not something to write home about, however I assume the ruger trigger pull sucks also? Great pocket carry EDC gun love it
Size matters, not just you know where but in pocket .380s as well. If both are equally reliable and acceptably accurate, then the nod MUST go to the weapon that is smallest, thinnest, lightest, and easiest to conceal. In summer when clothes are skimpy at best, and wearing a belt and holster completely inconvenient, the pistol that is most comfortable in the front pocket of lightweight shorts, and offers the least chance of unintended display WINS. Advantage-RUGER.
This video misses one of the most important factors about a gun...how does it shoot? Grip ergonomics, recoil, trigger pull weight, trigger pull length, mag drop, reloading, racking the slide, etc? Ya know, the things that matter when the zombies are coming.
I have very much so looking forward to firing this soon and crossing my fingers that I enjoy it more than my horrible experience I had with the LCP. This is my opinon.
The BG380 came with the mag base extension plate which is really nice. The BG380 has a better feel in my hand way over the top for a gun it's size, compared to the LCP. The BG380's grip is a little wider and I prefer the texture more than the LCP. While shooting my friend's LCP, the take down pin slid out of place, which i didn't like. I can't comment about how it is firing the BG380 because I just bought it yesterday. I paid $480 and it comes with the insight laser.
I shot the LCP with the normal flat mag base plate. It was too hard to keep a grip on it because it's such a tiny area to grip, much smaller than the BG380. the LCP does not lock back after last shot fired, the BG380 does, which gives you faster response time to fire your next mag, one less thing to do with your left hand, compared to the LCP. The sights on the LCP suck and I don't think they are replaceable. The BG380's sights are replaceable
For me, either of these handguns would be an ankle backup gun (BUG) to my primary CCH, which right now is a S&W M&P9 w/ CTC grips. As such, it is my preference to carry 2 spare magazines for my primary, and none for my BUG. So, the lack of the slide locking back on the LCP is a non-issue. The LCP is also about 2 oz. (or close to 20%) lighter than the Bodyguard, with the same magazine capacity. Also, the lack of prominent sights is not an issue for me, and the CTC laser wins over the insight.
Id want the smith body gaurd although I am a ruger fan all the way,I like the looks of the 380 bodygaurd a little better and 9 times out of 10 a smith will hold resale value better,I almost bought a smith 380 body guard last week when i first saw one but decided on getting the gun I went after to start with,,a baby bbrowning in nickel with pearl handles and gold trigger, haha, love those babies,,have a good day and would certainly take either one of your guns if offered,,great little weapons
I love the lcp for my SD gun. I can carry it in my pocket all day with comfort. Nothing to snag coming out of the pocket. No holster needed.Accuracy: amazing for such a short barrel.Reliability; I've shot this gun to death- and no jams of yet. 2009 concealed carry gun of the year? It definitely got my vote.
I have the LCP, but with no laser.REASON: It's my self defence weapon. In most self defence situations requiring deadly force, most people will never have time to use their sights OR lasers. It's a good idea to practice the "kill shot' MINUS the sights.Make the firearm an extension of your hand. You'll be suprised how easy it is with minimal practice. For targets; Use your sights, and yes, the lasers are fun.
I would take the Bodyguard. While what you are saying is correct, the bodyguard will lock back on the last round fired while the lcp will not. Furthermore, the lcp has crappy sights compared to the bodyguard. Finally, the bodyguard comes with a lifetime warranty, while the lcp comes with either no warranty or 3 years.
@3800fanatic All valid points ...but I don't understand why you and many others value the lock back on the last round fired part of the bodyguard so much?
@wheel58 If you aren't paying attention to how many times you fired, or if you don't remember how many rounds you had to begin with...it is very frustrating to think you have one more shot, and you get a click. Having the slide lock back makes for much faster reloading: slap in a mag and release the slide.
@wheel58@wheel58 If you aren't paying attention to how many times you fired, or if you don't remember how many rounds you had to begin with...it is very frustrating to think you have one more shot, and you get a click. Having the slide lock back makes for much faster reloading: slap in a mag and release the slide.
@wheel58 It comes down to reloading speed. Locking halfway through it's cycle allows you to reload and then chamber without having to remove a hand from the grip. It's just one extra step that the LCP missed out with. The difference might only be a tenth of a second, and will it ever matter....who knows probably not.
@wheel58 plenty of times while shooting for recreation with guns that dont lock back I have been surprised that i have already taken my last shot and i'm sure meny others have done same thing. (if they are being honest :)) so i can only imagine if put in a high stress situation it would be very possible to forget you have already exhausted your magazine.
@wheel58 The lock back feature on any firearm is just to quickly help u realize the the gun is empty, else u would have to be counting ur shots or pull the trigger with no boom...
Valid points... except that fact that these weapons don't exactly need sights. If you are using sights within 7 yards you are dead. These are not intended for ranges beyond that.
I suggest you view Ruger's website it makes no mention of any warranty. They simply do not have one. They do however replace or sometimes fix parts on one of their firearms for free but there is no warrany. check under FAQ's under the customer service tab.
@ColtsGuns I stopped examining the diamondback 380 at a gun show as soon as i that i realized that the mag release is terrible. Even the dealer had a hard time releasing the mag. Personally, I NEED EVERYTHING to feel right about a gun before I buy it
I dont worry about the last round, I plan on doing the damage on my first shot, Practice Practice, Practice. By the way your not going to be trying to make 200 yard shots with either. the Ruger or the BG380
The Bodyguard does have better sights but with the Crimson trace laser on the LCP i will buy the Ruger. The Bodygiard is an absolutely nice firearm but i never like anything that i have to think about, (Turning on a Laser) when SHTF. Good Review.
Yes the crimson trace laser requirers constant pressure from your middle finger. The pressure from anyones normal grip is enough to turn on the laser and maintain the beam. The thing I like about the crimson trace is that I don't have to worry about turning it on or off its just ON when i need it. I agree I do not ever want to become dependent on a laser. That would be one drawback to the lcp. Its sites are not nearly as good as the bodyguards.
So on the crimson trace you have to continually hold down the button with your finger for the laser to be on? It's not a turn it on and dont worry bout holding a button like the insight laser? I have the bodyguard 38 special it's a awesome gun and now i am considering getting a 380 pocket pistol with laser. The higher sites would actually probably interest me more because I wouldnt want to be come dependent on the laser.
I haven't seen a reason to have a laser on a subcompact gun. I'm open to change my mind though.

-That is nice that it locks back on the final round.
- I agree the bodyguard has better sights but but for me and concealed carry I don't want the big sights sticking out to snag on something. -

-The LCP does have a built in laser. It's a factory Crimson Trace Laser put on by ruger.
-My dad loves his smith. mainly the sights and price for him

bodyguard wins. Better sights, locks back on final round, grip is better, has a safety that barely sticks out, looks better, built in laser.
