The age old saying goes: "styles make fights..." so Leonard KOing Hearns who KO'd Duran means very very little. With regards to power, Duran won 70 fights out of 119 via KO whereas Leonard won 25 out of 40 via KO. Both had power but Duran was steel strong. They never called him "hands of stone" for nothing.

I dont know which fight you saw, but the Brawl in Montreal was a great fight, they both fought each other like warriors. Duran was a great fighter who could box, and Leonard was a great boxer who could fight.

I do believe through brains or guts, a brawl or boxing match, any one them could beat the other, only through different tactics. The 2nd Leonard/Duran fight, I believe even if Roberto would have been in proper shape, Leonard would have beat him, because he was boxing him in that fight and not going toe to toe. How does a lot of showboating and a few flashy flurries equate to "dominated"? When the fight ended Leonard was ahead two points on two cards and one on the other. Hardly pitching a shut-out. Not once did Leonard hurt, cut, stagger or knock down Duran. Only one man won when they were both in peak condition, and it wasn't Sugar Ray Leonard. Foreman vs Frazier...now that's one great fighter dominating another.

i respectfully disagree Aurelian147. the fight starts when you sign the contract. so many great fighters have had the issue of cutting large amounts of weight, etc and they have found away to, at least, make it competitive. great fighters don't quit and it was srl's showboating and flashy flurries that made him quit. that = domination in my eyes. 1st fight was a competely different animal.

@onblock7 It is crazy how people are in denial, even you heard it from SRL that he demanded a quick re-match when Duran was 190 (this fight was signed in late Sept. they gave Duran 2 months to get ready)and they still claiming that SRL beat Duran, he cheated, the ring was 22x22 for SRL to be able to run like a chicken, It is funny to read, that DUran quit because he did not want to get knock out.. @mittaku Duran said he had cramps and would not be beat by this clown lol, bottom line is he was out of shape and knew he had no win there so he quit! He was a hard MOFO yes, but seriously it's his own fault he drank that much and he accepted the fight that soon so thats his fault! @mittaku People are so stupid when it comes to their favorite fighter. I loved Duran but in no way shape or form did Leonard cheat Duran. Who agreed to the 2 months Duran did, who agreed with the 22x22 ring Duran did. So if Duran agreed to all of these things in no shape or form did Leonard cheat him. You can make all the excuses in the world you want but the man quit it's no denying that.

leonard was a major pussy when he fought duran like a man he got his ass kicked. only when he intentionally tricked him into fighting out of shape and then runs in circles around the ring can claim a victory. he was gettin the his ass whiped by hearns untill hearns gassed and then after avoidin a rematch for yrs was giving a gift decision in a fight he lost. he ducked hagler for yrs until hagler was past his prime and again was givin a gift decision. and totaly avoided aaron pryor his hole carer

Duran was signed up 3 months after the 1st fight and had 2 months to prepare. That was really idiotic and stupid. Basically Leonard bribed Duran with millions to fight him unprepared.
Another stupid mistake was placing Duran on a isolated prison island to prepare for the Benitez fight. It psychologically screwed him totally

@esco42085 not. did you forget that they fought three times? duran quit in the second fight. then he lost every round of the third fight. i've heard all the excuses before so you don't need to repeat them. leoanrd was the superior athlete, superior boxer, won his biggest fights. duran lost all his biggest fights except one and that one was damn close.

The distractions were his fault.It is his responsibility to come to the ring in shape, to say he wasn't is no excuse.He lost two fights to leonard,never knocked him down.Duran's power was good, Leonard was better.Leonard knocked out Hearns who Duran got knocked out by.The fighter who takes the fight is responsible for himself,excuses aside, if you don't want the fight don't take it.A friend who fought all of them told me Leonard's power > hearns and duran. duran was great leonard was better

@Haplotype0 yes i agree that the distractions were his fault,but its a reality.he lost 2 fights to leonard but the 3rd was isnt really talked about coz they were both not in their prime anymore. duran went up weight divisions and won those fights as well. In part 4 i think u see him fight that big black fighter who was a young reigning champion, duran was clearly not in his prime anymore,he showed how good his chin is wen he took that punch, and came back and ko'd the guy

The age old saying goes: "styles make fights..." so Leonard KOing Hearns who KO'd Duran means very very little. With regards to power, Duran won 70 fights out of 119 via KO whereas Leonard won 25 out of 40 via KO. Both had power but Duran was steel strong. They never called him "hands of stone" for nothing.

Even with Duran out of shape Leonard couldn't hurt him, he could only play with him.

I dont know which fight you saw, but the Brawl in Montreal was a great fight, they both fought each other like warriors. Of course Duran won, but it was hardly a landslide, it was a great fuckin' fight. Duran didnt ko Leonard, does that mean he did not dominate? Duran was a great fighter who could box, and Leonard was a great boxer who could fight.

(montreal fight) Duran showed he was better.
In the second fight Leonard was smarter and in better shape but he could't really hurt Duran, he was clowing and forced Duran to stop because he was tired of that. Duran was a pure talent fighter with an historic career even with poor discipline, Leonard was a good boxer
with great discipline and media support ( like Mayweather today). But Again, Duran career can't be compared with planned Leonard's one.

That I do agree with, 100%. I dont put Leonard any less or more than Duran, Hearns or Hagler, any one of them in their prime. I do believe through brains or guts, a brawl or boxing match, any one them could beat the other, only through different tactics. The 2nd Leonard/Duran fight, I believe even if Roberto would have been in proper shape, Leonard would have beat him, because he was boxing him in that fight and not going toe to toe. I have to admit, the taunting shit really did bug me.

Nice we agree. But I think in the second fight with a Duran on top and fast as in the first there was still no change for Leonard. Duran like Hagler in top form were almost perfect boxer like Ali or Robinson. Leonard or other good guys had mainly one good thing ( speed for Leonard or power for Hearns ). Again, in boxing good management and media support can totally change a career.

How does a lot of showboating and a few flashy flurries equate to "dominated"? When the fight ended Leonard was ahead two points on two cards and one on the other. Hardly pitching a shut-out. Not once did Leonard hurt, cut, stagger or knock down Duran. Only one man won when they were both in peak condition, and it wasn't Sugar Ray Leonard. Foreman vs Frazier...now that's one great fighter dominating another.

i respectfully disagree Aurelian147. the fight starts when you sign the contract. so many great fighters have had the issue of cutting large amounts of weight, etc and they have found away to, at least, make it competitive. great fighters don't quit and it was srl's showboating and flashy flurries that made him quit. that = domination in my eyes. 1st fight was a competely different animal.
