Yes he did have lLT.Guess who had Dickerson? A bunch of nobody qbs who nobody remembers today because they couldnt throw for shit. Defences knew Dickerson was getting the ball almost every play.Strong safeties would ignore the sucky wr and TE all game waiting for eric. Thats why Dickerson and Sanders and Peyton are so high on the list. They had nobody around them during their prime years.
Dickerson and the Ram front office had a hell of a time with each other. Dickerson would hold out every time training camp came around. He was talented and he knew it. He was also vulnerable to getting hit hard. The Ram front office was constantly looking for ways to save money and Dickerson was more than a handful for them.
He only passed Dickerson in career yards by pulling an Emmit Smith and insisting on going on to NY when he no longer had it even in his last year as a Charger. For 2011 his longest run was 20yds and he had only 75 touches. This is called padding stats, means nothing."shut up martinishot!! I do plenty on the Jets!! Who you think passes out the Gatoraide an shit!! " says LT.
What a trading history the Rams and Colts have. The owners once traded teams, Rams traded Dickerson to Colts for a lot, Colts trade Faulk to Rams for a little. At least the Rams made the most out of that and won a super bowl with Faulk.
@lawlwtfcakes0605 get the fuck out of here with the LT shit your still talking about him hes not good,Eric Dickerson did good in 2 different teams ..I put anyone over LT shouldn't even be on this list.
ignorance in its purest form. and yeah, I keep coming back, cause you dumbasses keep replying! you must not watch a lot of football to say LT isn't (or wasn't) good, thats like saying Shaq was never good just cause his old age caught up to him. yall are stupid!
This man should be a top 40. He retired as the 2nd all time leading rusher, and still sits at #7. Had almost 4,000 yards rushing in his first 2 seasons. Set the single season rushing record that still stands 25+ years later.
Eric dickerson is only above LT because he managed to rush for 2000 yards in a season. LaDainian Tomlinson holds over 35 nfl records (hes set so many I cant even list them in this box, go wikipedia them or google them). and btw 31 tds and setting the nfl scoring record in 1 season while being just 100 yards shy of 2000 yards > 2105 rushing yards. LT got jipped, only cause he's still an active player. and go compare their career stats. lt is superior in every category
@lawlwtfcakes0605 They are giving him extra props because unlike LT, Dickerson played for Rams/Colts teams that sucked.More importantly his quarterbacks for Rams and Colts sucked. Defences knew he was getting the ball almost every damn play.
Ignorance again!! I'm starting to think all Eric Dickerson fans are idiots! the San Diego Chargers were one of the worst teams in the NFL prior to the coming of LaDainian Tomlinson, and not only that, but REMAINED one of the worst teams until around 2005. Anyone who knows football knows that LT ran behind a sub-par offensive line almost his entire career, and guess what, he still broke or tied 35 NFL RECORDS. tell me how many records dickersons set? he's great, but LTs greater
@lawlwtfcakes0605 No ignorance here.Like I said early LT had a real quarterback Drew Brees and while Curtis Conway was not Randy Moss he had still been voted to the pro bowl a few times. Dickerson was surrounded by nobodies at quarterback and skill positions. Career yards there is hardly any difference
Yeah, he did suck. He's on this 100 list because he's put up like 5 back to back 4500 yd seasons while being on the saints. You obviously dont know ANYTHING about the chargers, Brees was an average qb when he played for them
@lawlwtfcakes0605 In Brees second year as a pro he was already a pro bowler,I know plenty. Saints dont give a major draft pick fpr somebody who sucks.
@nyphix4321 Believe me, people like Dickerson and Barry Sanders wished they could play with average quarterbacks. Again Brees earned a pro bowl in 2nd year.
@martinishot WRONG! Brees threw tons of INTs as Chargers starter. Didn't become what we know today until his last season there. You young fellas today really dont know anything about football LOL
@outlaw87100 Regardless of Brees not being as good in his second yearas now he still got voted to the pro bowl, thats alot better than any qb Dickerson played with.
Defenders used to COMPLAIN about LT, the NFL even got onto him about his dark visor, because linebackers labeled wearing a dark visor as cheating. Its not cheating, LT's just that good. Eric Dickerson probably hasn't even dreamed about scoring 31 touchdowns in a season. you know why? cause 31 touchdowns in a season was unheard of until the 2006 nfl season. lmao.
@lawlwtfcakes0605 Dickerson does not have to dream about reaching 10,000 yards in 91 games..he did it,and nobody else is even close.LT's 105 games is almost a whole season difference!! If you and LT D-R-E-A-M about 10,000 yds 91 games you fools better wake up and apologise!!
LT amassed more yards than Dickerson in 10 seasons playing his last 2 as a backup than Dickerson did in 11 seasons. not to mention he scored like, 70 more touchdowns. almost twice as much as Erics 90. Only 3 players have 160+ touchdowns.. Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, and LaDainian Tomlinson. Hes amongst the greats, when he retires he'll be looked at as one of the best scoring runningbacks to ever play the game 5th most rushing yards of all time, 3rd most tds ofat. lil knowledge for ya
@lawlwtfcakes0605 Oh yeah, heres what else your boy hasn't even dreamed about. Many of these highlights are Dickerson as a Colt being a 31 year old running back still with all his speed and DB's still not catching him and defences still scared of him ripping a long TD run.31 year old LT was nothing, nobody was scared of him. He was like a backup, Dickerson was backup to NOBODY.
This is the only athlete I have seen in my lifetime for which the following two statements are both true: 1) His overall achievement does not merit his being talked as a candidate for "the greatest" and 2) Under different circumstances, he almost certainly would have been the greatest. The only thing holding back Eric Dickerson was Eric Dickerson. In a way, I respect that, Football is, in the end, just a game. But, my God, he had sooooooo much talent, strength, and speed.
@ActaNonVerba71 I agree with everything that you said. I still felt if he stayed with the rams there was a possible chance that there could of been a possible super ring in his finger (maybe small chance). Lots of problems off the field with the Rams but E.D. was a beast on game time. Did he deserve more money yea but the rams didn't budge and he became a distraction.
Got to the playoffs several times but never advanced to the super bowl.... just sad.
his only problem was durability if he had a emmit smith long career he would be the greatest of all time, he had a really short career compared to the backs who were considered the "greatest" of all time
@aznwrestler3 hmph... not sure about that statement right there. Rams had no passing game and the rams just kept giving him ball. 3rd and 4. run it. 3rd and 5 run it.
Maybe your right not sure about that one though. or do you mean towards the end of his career.
The run @1:38 is my alltime favorited ED play, he takes the pitch on that sweep, an goes down the field untouched, at least 75+ yards, no one was better when he was in his prime...
@3811iberis watch the 50-yard td in the 1985 playoff game against dallas at full speed. it's just scary to see a back that big sprint through an entire defense like they're stuck in mud.
@TheWizardOfOsborne well, it's all just geared toward the qb position... Honestly, the rules are just set-up to transfer fan attention from the HB to the QB it's ridiculous. I can barely watch it most of the time. Might as well just watch basketball if I want to see a bunch of fast guys running around playing no defense
@swissbeats2k They played in Los Angeles from 1946-1980 and only played in Anaheim from 1980-1995. And even when they were in Anaheim they were called the Los Angeles Rams, because Anaheim is still within the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area.
@BrentWilliams710 Eric Dickerson played in Anaheim never at the Coliseum for the Rams, therefore they were the Anaheim Rams. Anaheim is not Los Angeles and never was. The Ducks are not the Los Angeles Ducks they're the Anaheim Ducks and they play in Orange County the Rams are double sell outs to this region screw em, Go Niners
@swissbeats2k You're fucking retarded. Just because the Cowboys play in Arlington does that make them the Arlington Cowboys? or the East Rutherford Giants/East Rutherford Jets? Or the Landover Redskins? The Orchard Park Bills? Soon the SF 49ers are building a stadium in Santa Clara, are they going to become the Santa Clara 49ers? No.
@BrentWilliams710 Whats retarded is the RAMS record against the 49ers for the last 3 decades. Anaheim is not Los Angeles. You live in Bakersfield what the hell would you know? Whats next you'll be telling me San Diego and San Francisco are part of Los Angeles too. Have fun watching playoff football and those same ole-sorry ass 2-12 rams for the rest of the season.
@swissbeats2k The difference between Anaheim and SF/SD in relation to LA is that Anaheim and LA are in the same metropolitan area you fucking dumb piece of shit. How is that so hard for you to understand? Lots of teams play in different cities in their area. Why would you even care? You're a fucking Niner fan, and a Lakers fan. Were you complaining about the Lakers playing in Inglewood and calling themselves the LA Lakers? Doubtful.
@BrentWilliams710 Inglewood is L.A. county Anaheim is not. I care because you keep speaking on stuff you know nothing about. I'm a dumb piece of shit LMAO but you keep arguing with me about Anaheim being in L.A.
@BrentWilliams710 BTW the Jets and Giants play in New Jersey not in New York state. So next thing you're gonna tell me is that Jersey is in New York. You a Fool
@swissbeats2k Anaheim is in the LA metropolitan area. The LA metropolitan area contains both Orange County and LA County. East Rutherford, NJ is in the New York metropolitan area. The LA Rams represented the LA metropolitan area as a whole. The NY Jets and Giants represent the NY metropolitan area. This is not a difficult concept to understand.
@BrentWilliams710 Ok, ok you win the argument and you're way smarter than me. I always thought Redondo Beach, CA (where i live) was L.A. county, looks like i was wrong it's now Anaheim or whatever city you say it is (probably San Diego) am I an IDIOT or what, DAMN I'm fuckin stupid.
@fatriani Yeah...and it looked the same when you watched him on LIVE TV. Because he was so tall and ran so upright, it always looked like he was CHILLIN' when he ran. Make no mistake, though, at his peak he was one of the fastest players in the league...PERIOD.
@fatriani funny thing that you said that cause his coach at the time was chuck knoll ( i think but not sure) he would always tell Eric Dickerson to stop jogging and run at full speed Eric Dickerson would just reply by just saying, "Coach, I am running at Full Speed!!!"
He scored one time on a 60 yard run against the jets and that's what his coach said to E.D. and that's what E.D. said back to him.
Sad that he never got a ring and he shouldn't have gotten hurt in his last year.
@UnforgivingSoul1252? I had this football tape long time ago with Phil Simms at qb and Eric Dickerson at RB. Eric me taught how carry the ball and catch a little bit and blocking but the best thing he said on the video was," In order to be a great running back in the NFL you have to be a great blocker, you can run and catch the ball but it doesn't matter cause you can't be a good running back if you can't block on the pass" Well said!! Eric Dickerson is a complete back too
if you find Dickerson s run amazing to watch, WATCH a video on youtube called 1987 LOS ANGELES RAMS AT HOUSTON OILERS. at 9;08. I NEVER, EVER saw a run like that ( outrun a defence like that !!!!!!!)
I still can't believe my brother (RIP) thought that Herschel Walker would be better than Eric in the Pro's. We argued up and down about this. Thanks Eric for proving me right in that hot debate.
@Sentenza233 Not if you're name is Barry Sanders, bro ran his career high when he was 29. Retired after rushing over 1400 yards in his final season. Barry was just getting warmed up, its a shame the Lions sucked shit.
@Sentenza233 Well he was only 27 when the Rams traded him idk, if i was the Rams GM i would have kept him a couple more years he was far and away the best player on that team. It is true what u said about RB's not lasting though, but he was a once in a generation type of guy.
Dickerson is the only back to rush for 1,800 yards or more in 3 different seasons. His rookie year in 1983 will most likely never be matched. He led the NFL in rushing attempts, rushing yards and also had the longest run in the NFL that year with an 85 yard burst vs the Jets. He charted 390 rushing attempts for 1,808 yards and 18 touchdowns, with 51 receptions for 404 yards and 2 touchdowns. I don't think anyone has really even come close to those numbers since.
Agree with Mr. Allen, he was very under-rated. People also forget, that at the end of his career, it was realised that he'd been playing with a series spinal injury for a long time also. Maybe it was 'victim' of his more upright style, but nevertheless, it lends itself to his toughness, pain tolerance and superior conditioning that's seldom recognised. Like all great backs, he would pound that rock all day and come alive in 4th quarter.

Number 52? You've got to be joking! I'm not much for these Top 10, Top 100 things, but Keeee-rist, how many players were better than Dickerson? Just goes to show you that many of these top lists are heavily weighted toward modern players. 52? Outrageous!
@warwolfii The top 100 was weighted toward the historic players actually. Also, NFL's website also has the fans list where ED was placed at 28, a much more accurate list in general.
@DatPicksburghGuy Absolutely should be ranked higher. I think Marcus Allen said it best. He made it look easy. You can also see the Track and Field training when he runs. There is no wasted motion. You could almost balance a book on top of his helmet when he ran. Go look at other backs and some of those are Hall of Famers. The head is bobbing or the arms are pumping wildly. That slows a runner down. The only other one that comes to mind who did the same was O.J. Simpson. He was also a track guy
i actually put him as a bo jackson type he was big and fast and he the yr he ran for 2000 yrds he ran for more yrds then the quarterback threw that year definantly shows how dominant he was
@panthersXyankees89 Yes and No. They ended up getting 3 1st and 2nd round picks out of the deal. None of them panned out. They ended up spending 2 1st round picks on RB's over the next 2 years in Cleveland Gary and Gaston Green. CG lead the NFC in TD's one year and Green was a total bust with the Rams, decent player with the Broncos though. Their failures to convert those picks into quality players is what ultimately doomed the Rams franchise for almost a decade.
@panthersXyankees89 It was actually a 3 team trade. Between the Bills , Colts and Rams. This trade was what enabled the Bills to get Cornelius Bennet from BAMA.
@racowmav I remember that year, Bills gave the Rams Greg Bell, Colts gave Bills C. Bennet, and Rams gave Colts E.D. I was pissed when G. Frontiere and John Shaw arranged the trade.
@Gaia029 Actually, the Rams got a slew of high draft picks from the Bills as part of that deal. It still didn't turn out too well, but it's not as though the Rams decided Greg Bell was a better player than Dickerson.
@DanVelinski You're are correct, they did get a truckload of draft choices too. Oh no, Greg Bell was just a throw in and not even close to E.D, I was however, impressed the way John Robinson and the offensive line (Slater, Newberry, Smith, Harrah and Pankey) enabled Bell to crank out 1000 yard seasons.
Eric is the best football player I ever saw. He had a great high school career too. In the Texas state H.S. championship game, he rushed for about 300 yds.
This clip proves a point…. I like Walter Payton; but there are a few backs that have a legit agreement of being better: Erick Dickerson, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders and Emmit Smith. When it comes to Jerry Rice the is no comparison he is so ahead of other receivers is ridiculous, that why he is the best player ever
Dan brings up a good point but I hav to agree with Chulo here's why if you go back and look at Dickersons numbers there were many games where he had 100 yards after 10 or 12 carries when the defense was stacked against him had he played with the 49ers with a great Quarteback and system I think His numbers wud hav been ridiculous. No back in history had more talent than Dickerson. None
Had he played for the 49ers in the 80s instead of the Rams and the Colts, people would be talking about him as the greatest running back in NFL history.
@ElCuloChulo I don't know about that. The 49ers rarely had a feature back; they spread the rushing load around. Dickerson might have gained more yards per carry and scored more, but I doubt he would have put up the ridiculous yardage totals that he produced in his role as the Ram's main man. It would have been interesting, though. We'll never know for sure.
@ElCuloChulo ~An 18 year old kid preaching to me about how much football I've watched over forty years ?. Don't make me laugh sonny. Grow a pair and we'll have a serious conversation.
@ElCuloChulo ~ It took me about 10 seconds to look at your pathetic little excuse for a page you fucking cretin. Or is that 'ElCuloChulo' ?. Shit, the little lad thinks he's a bandit.
@RipCruncher1 Hmm let me clarify my friend you totally misconstrued what I was saying. I was commenting on the banter between you and ElCuloChulo, I read both comments and thought it was very entertaining. And I don't know if that "i pay for your school fees" comment was for me or not but I can assure you that you don't pay my college fee's I was in the military my friend, I earned that scholarship ;)

@lilmoe102 AP reminds me of a hybrid of Walter Payton. Sometimes running with power, sometimes running with grace. And speed. GREAT speed.

@senjahcore so true... football is becoming less of a man's sport

BRING BACK THE LA RAMS
BrentWilliams710 2 months ago
@BrentWilliams710 They were the Anaheim Rams not L.A.
swissbeats2k 2 months ago
@swissbeats2k They played in Los Angeles from 1946-1980 and only played in Anaheim from 1980-1995. And even when they were in Anaheim they were called the Los Angeles Rams, because Anaheim is still within the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area.
BrentWilliams710 2 months ago
@BrentWilliams710 Eric Dickerson played in Anaheim never at the Coliseum for the Rams, therefore they were the Anaheim Rams. Anaheim is not Los Angeles and never was. The Ducks are not the Los Angeles Ducks they're the Anaheim Ducks and they play in Orange County the Rams are double sell outs to this region screw em, Go Niners
swissbeats2k 2 months ago
@swissbeats2k You're fucking retarded. Just because the Cowboys play in Arlington does that make them the Arlington Cowboys? or the East Rutherford Giants/East Rutherford Jets? Or the Landover Redskins? The Orchard Park Bills? Soon the SF 49ers are building a stadium in Santa Clara, are they going to become the Santa Clara 49ers? No.
BrentWilliams710 2 months ago
@BrentWilliams710 Whats retarded is the RAMS record against the 49ers for the last 3 decades. Anaheim is not Los Angeles. You live in Bakersfield what the hell would you know? Whats next you'll be telling me San Diego and San Francisco are part of Los Angeles too. Have fun watching playoff football and those same ole-sorry ass 2-12 rams for the rest of the season.
swissbeats2k 2 months ago
@swissbeats2k The difference between Anaheim and SF/SD in relation to LA is that Anaheim and LA are in the same metropolitan area you fucking dumb piece of shit. How is that so hard for you to understand? Lots of teams play in different cities in their area. Why would you even care? You're a fucking Niner fan, and a Lakers fan. Were you complaining about the Lakers playing in Inglewood and calling themselves the LA Lakers? Doubtful.
BrentWilliams710 2 months ago
@BrentWilliams710 Inglewood is L.A. county Anaheim is not. I care because you keep speaking on stuff you know nothing about. I'm a dumb piece of shit LMAO but you keep arguing with me about Anaheim being in L.A.
swissbeats2k 2 months ago
@BrentWilliams710 BTW the Jets and Giants play in New Jersey not in New York state. So next thing you're gonna tell me is that Jersey is in New York. You a Fool
swissbeats2k 2 months ago
@swissbeats2k Anaheim is in the LA metropolitan area. The LA metropolitan area contains both Orange County and LA County. East Rutherford, NJ is in the New York metropolitan area. The LA Rams represented the LA metropolitan area as a whole. The NY Jets and Giants represent the NY metropolitan area. This is not a difficult concept to understand.
BrentWilliams710 2 months ago
@BrentWilliams710 Ok, ok you win the argument and you're way smarter than me. I always thought Redondo Beach, CA (where i live) was L.A. county, looks like i was wrong it's now Anaheim or whatever city you say it is (probably San Diego) am I an IDIOT or what, DAMN I'm fuckin stupid.
swissbeats2k 2 months ago
@swissbeats2k Yeah, you actually are pretty fucking stupid if you don't understand the difference between a city, county, and a metropolitan area.

it looks like hes jogging
fatriani 2 months ago 12
@fatriani Yeah...and it looked the same when you watched him on LIVE TV. Because he was so tall and ran so upright, it always looked like he was CHILLIN' when he ran. Make no mistake, though, at his peak he was one of the fastest players in the league...PERIOD.
Odawg96 2 months ago
@fatriani funny thing that you said that cause his coach at the time was chuck knoll ( i think but not sure) he would always tell Eric Dickerson to stop jogging and run at full speed Eric Dickerson would just reply by just saying, "Coach, I am running at Full Speed!!!"
He scored one time on a 60 yard run against the jets and that's what his coach said to E.D. and that's what E.D. said back to him.
Sad that he never got a ring and he shouldn't have gotten hurt in his last year.
StriderHiryu1200 1 month ago
@fatriani The straight-up track style does that. When you're vertical you can deliver maximum force against the ground.

@Sentenza233 Not if you're name is Barry Sanders, bro ran his career high when he was 29. Retired after rushing over 1400 yards in his final season. Barry was just getting warmed up, its a shame the Lions sucked shit.
NeoOsiris19 4 months ago
@Sentenza233 Well he was only 27 when the Rams traded him idk, if i was the Rams GM i would have kept him a couple more years he was far and away the best player on that team. It is true what u said about RB's not lasting though, but he was a once in a generation type of guy.
mpj32587 4 months ago
Why would you trade this guy?? Whoever the GM was for the Rams was a fucking idiot fosho. Thats like trading Barry Sanders or Walter Payton!

I don't think anyone has really even come close to those numbers since.
mpj32587 4 months ago
@mpj32587 barry sanders had 1,500 yards or more in 6 different seasons

52? Outrageous!
warwolfii 5 months ago
@warwolfii The top 100 was weighted toward the historic players actually. Also, NFL's website also has the fans list where ED was placed at 28, a much more accurate list in general.

great player. should be higher on this list.
DatPicksburghGuy 5 months ago
@DatPicksburghGuy Absolutely should be ranked higher. I think Marcus Allen said it best. He made it look easy. You can also see the Track and Field training when he runs. There is no wasted motion. You could almost balance a book on top of his helmet when he ran. Go look at other backs and some of those are Hall of Famers. The head is bobbing or the arms are pumping wildly. That slows a runner down. The only other one that comes to mind who did the same was O.J. Simpson. He was also a track guy
kingfish4242 5 months ago

I wasn't born at the time so I have to ask: Why in the blue hell did the Rams trade him.
panthersXyankees89 6 months ago
@panthersXyankees89
Contract issues and he was a bit of a prick/diva. He ran into the same problems with the Colts after that honeymoon period had ended.
racowmav 6 months ago
@racowmav Did they get a loot in return? Like Hershal Walker?
panthersXyankees89 6 months ago
@panthersXyankees89 Yes and No. They ended up getting 3 1st and 2nd round picks out of the deal. None of them panned out. They ended up spending 2 1st round picks on RB's over the next 2 years in Cleveland Gary and Gaston Green. CG lead the NFC in TD's one year and Green was a total bust with the Rams, decent player with the Broncos though. Their failures to convert those picks into quality players is what ultimately doomed the Rams franchise for almost a decade.
racowmav 6 months ago
@panthersXyankees89 It was actually a 3 team trade. Between the Bills , Colts and Rams. This trade was what enabled the Bills to get Cornelius Bennet from BAMA.
racowmav 6 months ago
@racowmav how did cornelius bennet end up on the colts?
theman1819 5 months ago
@racowmav I remember that year, Bills gave the Rams Greg Bell, Colts gave Bills C. Bennet, and Rams gave Colts E.D. I was pissed when G. Frontiere and John Shaw arranged the trade.
Gaia029 5 months ago
@Gaia029 Actually, the Rams got a slew of high draft picks from the Bills as part of that deal. It still didn't turn out too well, but it's not as though the Rams decided Greg Bell was a better player than Dickerson.
DanVelinski 4 months ago
@DanVelinski You're are correct, they did get a truckload of draft choices too. Oh no, Greg Bell was just a throw in and not even close to E.D, I was however, impressed the way John Robinson and the offensive line (Slater, Newberry, Smith, Harrah and Pankey) enabled Bell to crank out 1000 yard seasons.
Gaia029 4 months ago

This clip proves a point…. I like Walter Payton; but there are a few backs that have a legit agreement of being better: Erick Dickerson, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders and Emmit Smith. When it comes to Jerry Rice the is no comparison he is so ahead of other receivers is ridiculous, that why he is the best player ever
Mr813Fla 7 months ago
@highriz How about Payton with the niners.
JakeMacintoshHD 7 months ago
Dan brings up a good point but I hav to agree with Chulo here's why if you go back and look at Dickersons numbers there were many games where he had 100 yards after 10 or 12 carries when the defense was stacked against him had he played with the 49ers with a great Quarteback and system I think His numbers wud hav been ridiculous. No back in history had more talent than Dickerson. None
highriz 7 months ago
Underrated.
Had he played for the 49ers in the 80s instead of the Rams and the Colts, people would be talking about him as the greatest running back in NFL history.
ElCuloChulo 8 months ago
@ElCuloChulo I don't know about that. The 49ers rarely had a feature back; they spread the rushing load around. Dickerson might have gained more yards per carry and scored more, but I doubt he would have put up the ridiculous yardage totals that he produced in his role as the Ram's main man. It would have been interesting, though. We'll never know for sure.
