If you're using a mac don't use the "youtube" export settings. They suck. Search youtube for "mac youtube export settings" or something like that, there are people on here who have posted tutorials on how to set your export settings for great quality. I personally haven't kept records.
I always experiment, I don't keep track of my settings. I will tell you that I always err on too high of quality and let youtube "dumb it down". They look better that way. This particular video is actually stretched vertically a bit.
push in the joystick, you'll see a menu pop up on the viewscreen..........click downward on the joystick until you see focus.........click up on the joystick and it will be in manual focus........push left and right to adjust focus........when you want to return to auto focus just puch up on the joystick again
i just got the canon vixia hg20 yesterday and wenever i plug it in to get the video clips on my computer none of the show up only the pictures i took i have a macbook do u think u no y if u have a macbook :D
Only the latest versions of FCP/FCE and iMovie support the ACVHD format. I personally haven't found any other software that allows a mac user to import ACVHD files, certainly nothing from Canon.
iMovie '08 supports it. I just got my HG20 yesterday and had to run to the Apple store to buy iLife '08 because the version I had (iMovie HD 6) did not support AVCHD.
If you have iMovie HD '08 it will recognize your Canon HG20 just like any other camera.

I can't find out how to use manual Depth Of Field. How do you do it?
BlueVihtic 2 years ago
Shoot in AV mode, with the largest opening f1.8~2.8 and zoom in a bit, and then use manual focus to go from one visual plane to another.

Did you use a 35mm adapter with this or is this with the stock lens? If you used an adapter, what kind of lens did you use?
jcama24451 2 years ago
no adapter, just the camera

What settings are you using when you produce to upload to YouTube? The quality is amazing. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

are u using the auto focus or manual focus? i heard the manual focus is kinda useless for the hg20
bitetobreakskin 3 years ago
manual focus, it's adjusted by toggling the menu joystick, there's no focus ring, not the most convenient but still usable, as you can see here.
tkunk 3 years ago
hi! how did you change the format to upload it here in youtube?
aheartofblack 3 years ago
i don't remember the settings, this was one of my first and the aspect ratio is wrong, it's stretched vertically, now I use FCE
