  • how the hell do I know how well the mic worls? thanks for nothing

  • Hi! Great video dude! I have a question... I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 (it is 4 or 5 years old) and I want to edit some videos recorded with Canon Legria HF S10 (in AVCHD, 1280x720). Do you think that I will have any kind of problem? Like slow down clips, errors, freezing up moments, bad working... I can't buy a better computer, so I hope the one I have works perfectly.

    Thanks a lot!!

  • how much cost this camera?

    ~greets from Belgium ;)

  • whats the settings? did you use sony vegas??

  • Which is better, Canon hf s100,Hf s200 or hf s21. I seriously don't see the differents.

    Anyone?

  • @TheZacharyWeekend i think they are all the same but the memorie differences.!

  • does it have a headphone jack on it to monitor incoming sound?

  • just got the camera today and its sweet so easy to upload the video from the sd card to my computer. just plug the sd card into the comp and transfer easy as that .... i have an Imac with FCP 7

  • Your cat's a cutie!

  • WoW you did the best job. By using the bike you demonstrate the true image of what the camera can do. thanks bro. And the cat's cool too :)

  • Does this have Genlock out

  • I have this camera. Do you notice that the stabilization feature does nothing? Or do you find it's ok. Other than that, good camera.

  • This camera records better then i can see :O

  • did u render it in sony vegas?

    if so what?

  • '

is this camera have 2 focus,,,

    one is automatic focus,

    one is manual focus

  • Great footage.... This was one of the samples that made me want to buy the HF S100...... I am in the process of shooting an action film for the Action Film Challenge.... I am shooting it with the HF S100...... Check out our behind the scenes vids!!!!

  • do you knwo the song?

  • HOw much is this camera?

  • Let me get this right, the cat was looking at the rhino outside of the window and it took you how long to move the camera to take a shot? Just joking man, VERY nice quality camera!

  • Why buy a camera if it's not 1080p? That's the biggest thing for me (besides framerate).

  • Comment removed

  • @HiiDefinition lol why u gotta remove ur comments b4 I can respond?

  • I didn't think the comments were paired to yours as a reply. When I posted them, they weren't paired with yours, so it looked like I posted random comments.

  • @HiiDefinition They don't do that anymore. That's why they added the @[name], so they didn't just look random.

  • i've heard that the software sucks but its an amazing camera

  • does it have a hotshoe to attach lights and stuff ?

  • @djccchouse It has mini hotshoe ... adapters available for regular hotshoe or make your own if needed.

  • great footage. If this camera uses an sd card to store memory, what kind should I buy? any certain brand needed?

  • Alright! Nice cat.

  • You sold me on this Camcorder! Nice Bike

  • Thanks! It's a fantastic camera

  • @7sudden I have a class 6 on mine and work just fine, check out my channel.

    MacMike1000

  • The music in the bike scene is great, was wondering is it was by Joe Satriani ?

  • The quality is really amazing! Im looking for a HD camcorder, but I cant decide between the HF200 and HF S100? Can someone help me?

  • Get the HFS100, the lens is bigger. It's more but worth it. I would suggest to get the hfs10 for the extra memory built in but that is just a suggestion for an insurance policy in case you run out of memory while shooting or forgot to download your previous footage. Good luck but definitely the S100 by far!

  • Thanks for your answer! I think hard drive in a camcorder isn't very good, maybe you get the sound of it on your recordings...

  • Here's my philosophy on technology: less moving parts, the better. Hard drives will go out faster than processors and memory. Also, hard drive technology is slowly becoming more antiquated, kind of like the recent Dawn and Death of direct DVD burning camcorders. :)

  • @OliverLouis1993 The HF S10 does not have a hard drive ... it has an onboard 32 GB flash memory, just like the SDHC cards it and the S100 uses. The S10 is a better deal for the right price obviously. That's what I bought and am glad. good luck!

  • Damn quality is clear!!! I have mixed feelings between this camera and he hf200. Of course the hf200 being almost 500 bucks cheaper but the quality may be the same except with less features than this one??

  • ITS A KITTY CAT! Very nice camera. I want bad.

  • The kitty <3!

  • Can iMovie 06 handle this cam??

  • No, you need a iMovie 09 or maybe even 08

  • nope, not even that. Final Cut express or Final cut will do it for mac, but iMovie does not support AVCHD files, sorry.

  • Actually, if you've been updating your iMovie 09, you would have noticed that it does support AVCHD. I have a Canon Vixia HF S100/10 myself, and I have been editing clips from this camcorder on iMovie 09. Just check my videos. Check the apple website, it even shows what cameras are and aren't compatible.

  • @HiiDefinition oh, my mac is owned by my high school so we need permission for updates... but yeah cool thx... I'd like to keep in touch with you as I got a HF S10 for christmas... go to my channel and look for my HF S10 First Footage vid... lemme know what I can do to make the quality as BEST as possible for youtube...

  • very life like quality! that's an excellent cam. i think i'll be picking one up myself

  • Interlaced, great for shooting stills.

  • I actually like the music, it's mixed really good. Most of these cameras look about the same to me up until the $1500 price range. From there they all look the same until you hit the $7500 price range. Give or take how well you can use a filter, crane, manual controls, etc. Even at that, it still DOES matter if you just buy the better camera instead of trying to make the cheaper ones better. I have to go cheap myself but compare the JVC GY-HM100U, then the JVC GY HM 700 to see what I mean.

  • Cheesiest metal ever.

That aside, this is amazing footage. Very compelled to pick this camera up

  • mate i need to get a fisheye for my HFS100, its 58mm right? what should i look at getting?

  • .3X ULTRA FISHEYE 58MM MKII

@ the website its $975, but the cheapest on like Google Product search is $699.

i saw some samples of it in action - superlative!

  • prefer not to spend that much, im worried that the 58mm ones are going to look rediculous on such a small camera, thoughts?

  • lolz i feel ya but - have u seen all the totally decked-out pro-level cams with all these contraptions and adapters on em? they're ALL ridiculous. it looks better and more pro if u have some massive rig setup ya follow me?

the cam setup i'm plannin on building is huge! has this same camera, but with a 35mm DOF adapter, a Canon photo lens, one of those rad Lensbaby light-bender thingies. probably like a foot for the cam, and another two or three feet of lenses!!

  • Have a look at the Canon WD-H58 Wide Converter

  • @7sudden i bought a whole kit from Amazon! works great

  • @MonorailToSpace U should get the opteka 43mm fisheye

  • @MonorailToSpace

Or the Opteka X-TREME 58mm 0.3X HD Super Fisheye Lens for Video Camcorders

  • Just purchased this camera today!!!!!!! Now I'm a complete newbie to video so I decided to just GO FOR IT! I was freaked out at how sharp the viewfinder is. i.e. in the store I pointed the camera a the carpet, zoomed in, and could see every single fibre...on the viewfinder! Other camera's couldn't do it very well! Thanks for the post... I have a million questions for you....off to sleep now... until tomorrow... ;)

  • Great video and subject matter. I am looking at getting this camera. Any reason why I shouldn't?

  • It's still the best HD prosumer camera in my opinion.

  • Thanks, I agree considering the many hours of research I have done. It appears to be a cam that won't disappoint!

  • Awesome camera I love it.

Things to get... large battery my camera now works for 3 hours in record mode. wide angle lens. editing software that can handle AVCHD format videos. You will love this camera.

  • can sony vegas 7 handle this camera?

im planning on getting this. Its awesome!

  • Yes as far as I know it will... I use Apple Final Cut Express V4.0.

  • what is the first songs name?

  • Not sure. I generated it with SonicFire

  • Does it have manual focus?

  • Yes, it does

  • I use a Mino HD right now and gets blurry when you zoom in, do you get blurry video when zoomed in?

  • mine gets blurry, dunno why.

  • Do you see the lines on your raw video footage? I would also check for any de-interlacing options when rendering your final video. In Vegas, there are some ways to correct it, though I'm not sure about Final Cut.

  • Your samples is some of the best on youtube with this camera. I have been reading a lot about topline camcorders. Now I have HV20 but I think I´ll be buying Canon HF S11 when it arrives here in Denmark. Hope some day recorders like Nanoflash will be cheaper. (not sure if Nanoflash works with HF S11 though, but it works with HV20 - I have heard it gives error with HF S10) Thanks for the upload!

  • Thanks for your comments! Very appreciated

  • the picture looks awesome--but with the 24mbps that shake seems like a killer.. tripod?

  • It's definitely something to keep in mind. I'm now shooting with a SteadyCam 2000

  • Is there a way to film a scene at multiple angles using just one camera yet keep the sound from that scene in sync with the multiple angles? I mean I would imagine there would have to be two cameras--one for recording the sound at one particular angle of the scene and another camera to capture images from another angle so that those images could be edited into the video track of the first camera (which also has the audio track). The purpose of this would be to have multiple angles w/o panning.

  • It would primarily depend on the subject. Something static, such as a flower would possibly work. However, a conversation or something with two people would certainly require two cameras

  • Why don't you just use a separate sound recorder and the use something such as Vegas Pro to match the time line sync?

    Easy Peasy!

  • You could always use a seperate mike, so that the audio records to a different file

  • Nice. Can I use Adobe Premiere CS3 to your knowledge to edit footage from this camera? I hear of problems with the AVCDH format. What do you use?

  • I use Sony Vegas Pro. Native AVCHD editing in real time, and personally I like the features better.

  • Thanks. I thought that was the case but not sure. Which version of Vegas do I need?

  • For most basic editing, you can use Vegas Studio. If you do lots of video work, you might want to look at Vegas Pro -lots more expensive though.

  • Which version? 8?

  • I currently use Vegas Pro 9 x64

  • Nice! The Mac Daddy version. 64bit too. I need to look into that. Thanks for the advice.

  • What does the removable 32GB card cost? Are they a special fast kind?

  • You can find 32GB cards online for $65-$100. -Just make sure that they are Class 6.

  • some people are saying that this camera is ONLY compatible with class 4 cards? help!!

  • I use class 4 and class 6 cards with this camera. In fact, I have not experienced issues with any of the various SD cards that I own. (brands, class, price, etc)

  • Is it that excellent indoors?

  • I think it does great for most indoor shots. As with all consumer/prosumer handheld cameras, you could always benefit from additional lighting. -This camera is no exception

  • Didn't you see the indoor part of this video??

  • are the features of this camcorder the same as the hfs10 except the 32 gb is on hard drive on the hfs10? if so can you download to the computer without requiring a card reader? directly from the camcorder using a usb cable? the photos are so amazing and sharp.

  • Comment removed

  • That is correct. I have not tried to download with a usb cable, but I do believe that it's possible

  • i have canon HF S100 like you. but i have difficult time to upload on youtube. WOuld you mind to help me with that to upload. ( CPI. file. confusing me.. Thank in advance.

  • Sure. Which editing software are you using?

  • great footage. Which encoder and settings did you use to upload the video on YouTube, if I may ask

  • Thanks. I encoded in 1280x720, wmv 9 using Sony Vegas 8.

  • Did you shoot it in progressive mode or in interlace?

I own a PAL version but the interlace mode looks awefull when i upload it to youtube.

  • Have you tried both modes? I have been using progressive. Also, which editor are you using to convert? Are you maintaining proper settings?

  • Since we're looking for a camera to take on safari, I appreciate your including the rhino shots and that you point out usefulness of a UV filter.

  • Absolutely. -Be careful with dust! Wrap the camera in a shower cap or other bag, exposing just the view screen and front lens. Dust is a killer to these (and all) cameras

  • Like 7sudden said, most people use a UV filter (me included) as a lens protector, and the footage of the rhino is there to show how the camera handles in that lighting setting, not like hes showing you a special rhino mode. And thanks for the awesome footage (looking to get this camera).

  • Thank you

  • Yozi, I "got" that this was a demonstration of different lighting settings -- I've found that shooting pictures on safari, however, is different from what I might do in my North Carolina back yard.

Thanks 7sudden, for the tip re using a shower cap to protect from dust. When you travel for 3 weeks, limited to 26lbs of luggage, every ounce helps.

  • Have fun on your safari! Let me know when you post some shots.

  • WoOoOoW!!!

  • Thanks!

  • did you export in 1280x 720 or 1280x720 HD?

  • 1280x720 HD

  • WHat kind of animal is that 2:17?

  • a rhino? =0

  • Was image stabilization turned on? That's the biggest issue I have with the S100, the Sony XR520 has great stabilization, but the images aren't as crisp

  • Yep, it was on. -Works great on the S100

  • Firstly, congrats on some awesome looking footage. Secondly, what do you mean it necessary to have a UV filter because of a big lens. Could you explain why that is? Thankyou!

  • Thanks for taking a look.

-The S100 (and S10) has a 58mm lens, which is perfect for capturing lots of light. However, Canon doesn't provide a lens hood.

The UV filter helps remove diffuse light patterns and reduces glare, thereby improving colors in certain situations (like the rhino shot, where the sun was somewhat in front of the camera)

  • wow beautiful footage man. I have a question. I bought the same camera last week but I'm having troubles playing it on my pc. The videos stutters and its all jumpy. I cant even connect it on a mac.and I cant post videos on youtube, can you help me? thanks.

  • Thanks. Are you looking at the AVCHD (.mts or .mt2s) files? You might want to convert them to another format to view them on a computer. Sony Vegas previews AVCHD smoothly, but most software tend to stutter pretty badly.

If you're wanting to post your videos here on youtube, you will also need to convert your footage into something else, such as .wmv, avi, mov, flv, etc. -Hope that helps!

  • Thank you very much! this helped me a lot.

  • I have the S100 (PAL) and Vegas Pro 8 but I find that the .mts from the camera is very jerky on the Vegas timeline. Processor is a core2 quad 2.4GHz and discs are eSata.

In the bike shots I notice slight stutters several times e.g. 0:21, 0:23. Really nice bike though :)

  • What are your settings for the Preview window? I have mine set to "Auto" with the preview window resized to 480x270. This runs smooth for me (dual Xeon 5405 processors, 16gb ram, SATA raid)

-You might also set your preview mode to "Good" or "Draft".

  • So you're on 64bit and you still have to reduce the preview window size. I think I have no chance with my setup. I've added Vasst's Ultimate S Pro4 and rendered all clips to proxy files (HDV) - time consuming but workable - they play fine at full size for editing. No problem replacing the proxies with originals for final render. $169 for Vasst cheaper than getting a new machine. Thanks for your reply

  • nice stuff! this camera is in the mail to me right now. can you tell me the settings you used to export footage to youtube, i have had horrible experiences with uploading HD to youtube, looks great on computer but crap online. your video proves it is possible to upload great footage. thanks

  • Thank you. I'm using Sony Vegas 8. After you've edited your video, try converting down to 720p (1280x720) and encoding as .wmv file

  • Nice! great shots, this video was full of surprises! lol Loved the cat though. Hey, the colors were great in the motorcycle shot, but did u find them a little dull during the rhino part? or do you think they were just as vivid as seeing the real thing?

  • Thanks! I agree. The color in the rhino shot does seem a bit washed out. I was trying to gather various scenes with different lighting/distance/motion etc, to sample the camera's capabilities.

I have noticed much better results when using a UV filter on the S100. With such a large lens diameter, (58mm) it's a necessity. The motorcycle was shot with a UV attached. Big difference.
