I went to a big outdoor concert at Edgewater Raceway (now sports park) in the fall of 77 or 78 that featured the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean as headliners. A thunderstorm about 5 pm that day drenched us the thousands of us there, but most stayed for the final acts. The BBs were backup band for the Jan & Dean segment. Given the severity of Jan's injuries, he sang great that day. It was a day to remember!
I can't help but think how tragic it was that both Jan Berry and Brian Wilson wound up going through incredibly tough problems involving brain damage. But I salute them both... in Brian's case, he has managed to do amazing things over the years, maintaining his "Genius" status. Sadly, Jan's brain damage was more severe, but what an incredible job he did all those years. Met him once and I have to say he was an incredible human being. Bless him!
Thanks..haven't seen this in 31 years..I filmed off the TV screen with my super8mm camera and recorded the audio on cassette tape..and then synced it up !!!
Well....i for one hope you can get all of these interviews and appearances on. It's priceless. There's lots of neat ones out here. Do you have a good quality of when they appeared on "Mike Douglas" October of 1978? I LOVE that interview.
Oh yeah, I remember that show, but I don't think it was '75, because we didn't start performing with both Jan & Dean until '76. It was probably '78 or '79. We did a ton of TV in those days. Thanks for the memories. - DZ / PDRR
Thanks for the info! "75 was the date on the order form for a beta tape I bought years ago (82). I found a workiing beta max recorder on line and have been converting old tapes to DVD. BTW, if any one knows how to un-jam a beta cassette, I'm all ears! I have a cassette with a bunch of Jan and Dean gems that I am eager to convert.
@ConchThatCantSurf Converting old tapes to video is tricky. Video tapes deterioate after about 10 years. The magnetic coating starts to flake off. It's best left to a professional - they will "cook" the tapes to re-seat the magnetic coating before playing them. Good luck.
One of my great regrets in life,is that I missed the free concert they gave,on the lawn of the capital at st.paul mn, in the early 1990s.
