I actually like the way Gollum looks and sounds in this movie. I like the way he looks and sounds in Peter Jackson's version too, and nothing tops the way Jackson wrote the character or the way Andy Serkis portrayed him. However, I like him in this version all the same.

actually he is described a bit amphibic in the book. I still think his design fits better to his story as he looks like in PJ's LOTR.

Awful characterisation of Gollum. He looks nothing like the books described him as, apart from the wide eyes. Where the artists got this vision from is beyond me. He looks more like a frog than a human/hobbit. The films got his looks and character spot on.

Forget the new movies--THIS is how I remember The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, and this is how I pictured the characters when I read the books. I particularly loved this version of Gollum. Not that the new movies are bad, but they didn't stick with me as well as these old animated versions.

The movie is actually going to be divided into 2 parts. (The extended cut of each of the trillogy movies are two discs long, so why not) But I'm confident this will be in the first half. And I agree with you.
