  • Does any one know where i can get the dialogue to this audio?

  • OK, minor gripe here:

I see this in a lot of Alan Watts videos. He'll be talking about something unrelated to religion yet there are Buddhist/Hindu/Taoist images sprinkled all over these videos. This talk has nothing to do with Buddhism and while I know that Watts was very well versed in Eastern religions and philosophies don't you think that posting images of Buddha in a video about drug use is sort of misappropriated?

I'm not a Buddhist or anything and I adore Watts. I'm just sayin', I guess.

  • @Miazma i dont see the problem with mixing the concept of freedom to use drugs, with buddhist philosophy which supports the concept of individual autonomy/choice etc...

but honestly, theyre just images for the sake of something to look at... not something i put a lot of thought into

  • @djdnauk1977 Most Buddhists actually take a vow not to partake in substances that will alter their state of mind. If anything it's much like Hindu in the sense that enlightenment comes from realizing the god (or in this case Buddha-nature or bodhisattva) in oneself by *removing* the concept of autonomy and rejecting the concept of the ego.

  • @djdnauk1977 If anything, this talk has more commonalities with Tao. "Throw away morality and justice, and people will do the right thing."

I'm not actually that frustrated about it. But I'm sure Buddhists that actually follow the precepts and scriptures must get annoyed when they are associated with drug culture. It's an entire culture that, where I live, has been absorbed and--dare I say--stolen by a group that has nothing to do with them.

  • @djdnauk1977 But don't get me wrong. It's a good vid, and I'm glad you put it up.

    Peace be.

  • @Miazma no problem friend :) & thanks for commenting/watching! peace

  • @Miazma I don't think this is his channel, someone else had to of had posted this and put those pics to it.

  • @Miazma No problem dude...The Buddha never held any hypocrite prejudice against drugs. He only gave us a tip about ''do not exploit your passions'', which may loosely mean that we will only be misleading ourselves in thinking that drugs (or sex for that matter) can take us into permanent satisfaction. It's all about awareness, not contrariety. :)

  • The Chinese Opium wars clearly demonstrated how the ruling class utilize drugs. The same game is being played today. Opium production has increased in Afghanistan under US occupation. Who is making all that money on imported heroin in the US?

The Mexican drug cartels are making a lot of money from the USA because marijuana is illegal. The only ones to 'win' from legalization of drugs are the people. Those private jails would go broke and bribed politicians would suffer, poor dears.

  • Alan for president!~!!!

  • rule without ruling, and everything will fall into place.

  • We are addicted to television and bullshit, and yet it's legal...

  • Legalize all of them, all right over the counter. Show an I.D. and buy anything you want.

  • @DeMarkieSade well i say decriminalise, not legalise, because legalisation implies the government can control/regulate & tax it, which would be awful news, as it would just be another thing our fascist governments use to control us... decriminalisation = its nto a crime & cant be taxed either WIN!

  • @DeMarkieSade Show I.D.? That's regulation not legislation. Drugs are already regulated.

  • @DeMarkieSade If you do not share his beliefs, do not watch videos of his lectures. He never said that we should all begin doing drugs, he simply said that the government system for preventing drug use is corrupt and inefficient. The only drug that he says should be legalized is marijuana, for obvious reasons.

  • @SRCW624 You have misconstrued what I have said. He said "people who do drugs are stupid, excpet of course for marijuane." He praises pot, well not all people like marijuana some like other things. that is what i am saying fuck you about to him. the part about the government controlling and criminalizing people over a natural-- all natural opium pot it all comes from the earth---I agree with that part. They should stay the hell out of peoples business no matter what they choose to do.

  • @SRCW624 8:05 "it is stupid to become dependant on drugs?" what about on ciggrettes? marijuana relatively harmless and sold on the same basis as alcohol and as for harder drugs a issue for politicians and health clinics WTF why not legalize them all with pot and alcohol. see what I am saying he is tendentious in his argument he is siding with pot and saying everyone esle go get screwed.

  • @DeMarkieSade if you think its stupid to do drugs thats fine, personally i dont mind if people want to drink or smoke ro do drugs, its their body, as long as they dont force other people to do it then its not immoral or wrong... the point in this video is just that by making drugs illegal governments make loads of money by criminalising innocent people, the war on drugs kills more people than all drugs combined.

  • @djdnauk1977 Let's not forget that the point of this section of the talk isn't to debate the morality of drugs, but that the policing of them is not only futile and damaging but that it is also immoral.

  • @DeMarkieSade No, fuck you. Backwards motherfucker.

  • 1:50 he goes all out. Such a blatant insult. I lol'd.

  • wow.

  • We should all have the free will the choice to ingest any drug we want we are free to do what the governments choose for us well they can kiss my arse I like to take drugs of all kinds as long as your safe and informed what's the big bloody deal lol

  • @jazzaste123 agreed, no man should be able to use force/violence to stop others from acting peacefully, the whole concept of government is immoral & invalid as its based on the idea that murdering/enslaving & beating everyone who isnt exactly as the government dictate, government is violence.

  • @djdnauk1977 I agree with u my friend and the war on drugs is just made even more people take them it's a complete joke we will do it either way it just would be safer and we would have more info on them if they were all legal instead of a war on this a war on that we should make peace with it not war man shit I'm smoking a joint right now haha fuck the law we are our own and they can't do enything about it lol

  • @jazzaste123 glad to hear it man, i agree too... the only laws i support are "dont harm, steal or commit fraud" outside that, everything should be left to the individual to decide for themselves :)

  • @djdnauk1977 Yup yup yup we are free to do what we find enjoyable follow your bliss as someone said life is about joy and freedom to do as we will I'm with u brother peace and love maan

  • 2:41 two whales in the sky!

  • DEA just got owned by alan watts

  • A note on the translation four characters around 0:20,

    1. Dao, the Way.

    2. Fa, law, method, way

3 + 4. Zi Ran, Nature, or natural, spontaneous, ordinary, normal

So it might mean something like "The way of the Dao is Nature, natural, spontaneous, normal", "The way to live is in harmony with nature" "The Way is Nature" or a host of other translations.

Btw: Compare these with the elegance of the four words: "Dao fa zi ran" by Laozi. Lovely=) (the original, i mean, hehe)

  • it reall is entertainment ain't it

  • Watts keeping it real.

    x
