Can't thank you enough for the posting. What was a story remembered from childhood is right there on the screen. My uncle Stephen Hocken aged 20 year and 5 days died after two days in the water. I only wish he could have been one of those rescued. He lied about his age and was only 16 when he joined the army. He was at the fall on Singapore, in Changi prison, worked on the Burma railway and was in the 'A'party aboard the Jap freighter on his way to the Jap coal mines when it was torpedoed. A+Joe
My gr. dad was killed in ww2 a couple of years before this, but it's great to see comrades in arms helping each other like this. May the Yanks, Poms, Kiwis and Aussies stand together always!
Thanks for posting this. My great uncle, Harold Collins, was one of those diggers. He didn't make it out of the water. We may not see the likes of these men again, but I can assure you that there is a present generation of men who have risen to challenges in our time. They are serving now. Go Aussie and God bless America.
Believe you me, it was an absolute pleasure and an Honor to create this YouTube Channel. You are watching an incredible generation of Men, that will probably never be matched or seen again.
My hat is off to ALL of these incredibly brave men. Many Thanks to Bob Bates for providing me with this incredible footage, narrated by his late Father Joe Bates.
