  • WOW so glad I found your videos. I mentioned, as an aside, that I'd wanted to play sax since I was 8yrs old and only ever was given descant and tenor recorders. My client went crazy and insists I must long term loan her Yanagisawa Tenor which is gathering dust while she's focussed on her newest clarinets. I'm now looking forward to collecting it and having a basic lesson with her next Monday. You have inspired me to go ahead ......

  • Sounds good! I wished I would've kept up with it! Maybe i need to.

  • I'm going to kidnap you, keep you in a cupboard, and take you out to jam with every evening! Man, this busted-thumbs guitarist doesn't know much about sax, but I just love your tone and tasteful phrasing. You sure do deserve that beautiful instrument, you only have to look at how many peoples' lives are brightened by your talent. My best to you Sir.

  • What backing track are you using?

  • You sound very nice. Great tone. Influences Stan Getz and those kind of players very evident, but you sound like yourself! Added to my playlist, definitely. What's the mouthpiece?

  • Thanks my friend, i love this song, after hearing your playing, more than ever,

Surely you use Vandoreen, aren´t you.

  • do you want to sell your old sax

  • sorry, no. I love my Yani, highly recommended brand (from me anyway)

  • Thank you ! Listening to you play Misty tonight was most enjoyable here on this cold February night in Alberta.

    Troy E.

  • You have delicious tone! How does a guitar player get a sound like that? I've been trying to sound like that for years!

  • Great playing man. Awesome sounds.

And, on a side note, digging the blues clues shirt.

  • hey, great work!

is there any possibilty of you sending me the tenor sax score for this please??

  • Hello crazydaisydoo

His sound is fantastic as always. Congratulations.

    Could make a suggestion?

In a Sentimental Mood would be magnificent with its interpretation

    Abraço

    Anderson

  • Ahh, the pleasure of turning 40. It is a lovely gift from my Dad, and one to pass down to my kids too.

  • You have a family that gives gifts to the 'tune' of 4,000 knicker? Let it be known that I am available for adoption!!

  • This is gorgeous and smooth as silk. If this is heard by too many people it could contribute to overpopulation.

Kidding aside, I hope you'll consider making a CD before too long with some selected tunes and name it something like, "A Night Of Romance" ,or, "Stoned On Stone".

I would certainly buy a compilation of your playing. Unfortunately, when I listen to recordings of past sax greats, the quality of the sound is degraded - but not so with your beautiful digital recordings.

  • Hi Desertlight, great to hear from you, but you are making me blush :-)I do love these ballads, I guess the are my Forte (or should that be pianissimo) That was an attempt at musical humour...... I like the stoned on stone idea, although I gave all that up in the 80's........ Cheers again. Hope all is well on the farm.

  • @crazydaisydoo Please if you ever put together a CD or downloadable music, you have to let people know. "Hint" Me included. GREAT sound. Masterful job on this song.

  • very nice,

i rather like this tune to be played in tenor than in alto.

it just sounds more, smooth and relaxing.

  • everytime u amazed me with ur talent :)

    good job & keep goin'

  • This is truly fantastic, but I really miss your rendition of Wave.

  • I am glad you liked it, but I was not that keen on it anymore, I'll post a better version soon...... sorry:-)

  • I'm really interested in making video like these myself. What kind of recording hardware/software do you use?MIc directly to computer? What camera?

  • Hi, if you look at my vids you will find 2 videos about how I make these, hope they help

  • amazing, amazing tone.

  • Hey, you sound great!

    I play sax too.

Could could you check out my channel sometime and tell me what you think I should work on? Thanks

  • i think that i'm going to look into this song=]

  • I love the way you pop out those low notes!

Are you using a modern production Link?

  • Hi can you tell me what mic you use and or steer me in the right direction for the type of mic I should be using

    Thanks

  • Hi Frank, I use a rode NT2A, but only on the one normal pattern, so a Rode NT1 would be just as good. You need an interface with that for a pc or mac, as it is 48v phantom powered. Good Luck!

  • nice one mat

  • wow. what a great tenor sax sound. and on that top of that a beautiful rendition of the classic Misty.

  • All I can say is WOW! You've hit another home run Matthew.

  • Matt - youre a very, very luck man to own one of the mothers of all horns. The Reference 36 seems very responsive and unquestionably adds to your tonal depth. Youve given Misty a warm, rich texture. I must say that Im also a great fan of your Yani -- the horn responsible for my having listened to your version of This Masquerade over and over again. Looking forward to hearing great tunes on the Selmer. Cheers, Y.

  • Cheers Yared, nice to hear from you. It is a great horn, but I need to get it set up to suit me, the Yani is also very nice, a little brighter and wilder up top, but still great. I am a lucky man!

  • Hi crazydaisydoo I know I allready commented but man... this just sound so smooth and nice extreamly insparational I have been listening to this for hours and playing along I have a tenor that I have not touched for 9months I have just been playing my alto but today I have pulled out my SDA Buffet Tennor and playing along with you yes I aggree with Sanchothesaxplayer get the CDs out there mann.. but dont forget us with your uploads

    Thanks

  • Cheers mate, very kind of you. U have cheered me up cos I am a bit annoyed because youtube have just pulled one of my videos for a "Warner Bros" Copyright infringement. It was me playing "I've got you under my skin" What a mad world.....why are they worried about me?

  • Thanks Matthew, another great standard beautifully played. even though you don't do requests, 'These Foolish Things' next please, pretty please :-) A friend sent me the dots and asked me to try it out -he knows I'm a beginer.

It's in Eb (guess that's for voice) so transposed for tenor would be F (hope I'm correct).

  • Cheers, I am will look at that tune, I like it, so I will give it a go...

  • Congratulations Matt!

    Well done!

This horn sounds much better than your previous one. Very nicely how you play the lowest tones: so softly and smoothly. Excellent.

You should get a CD out on the market! Seriously!

Looking forward to more of your standards,

    greetings from Daniel, Switzerland

  • Thanks a lot Daniel, my wife has given me day in a proper studio with the quartet, so I will see how many tunes I can get down.....it'll be fun

  • Super ! very super ! Thank you !

  • Merci!

  • One of my favourite tunes done in soooo beautiful way... Thank you!

  • One of my faves too.... cheers

  • Congratulations on your new horn, Matthew! And what a beautiful interpretation of this great ballad. The smooth tone and the video capture the melancholic atmosphere perfectly!

  • Cheers Ulli, it is a beauty, but not as nicely made as the Yani... I like this tune, but it certainly gets low in places...

  • Good one Matt ! I notice you've stopped citing your background CDs/books?

  • Thanks C+P, the latest ones are from Hal Leonard's Playalongs for the Real Book 6th edition. You can order from amazon, about $65 for the whole set. You need the book as well, that is on amazon too, in various keys

  • wonderful.one of my favorite songs played so smooth and well.

  • Cheers bfl! Much appreciated

  • Beautiful new sax that goes well with your always beautiful sound. Congratulations and best regards Matt!

  • Thanks BSM, it has a great sound up top, I am just working on getting that bottom end right, I need another week or so. It takes a while to get truly "in tune" with a new horn.

  • very Nice and sweet played it all night. So what brand is the New sax.I know you use Cubase but what video program do you use?

  • Hi, I use Apple Logic, and imovie on an macbook. I have done two videos on how I make these videos (if that makes sense) they are in my video list..... Thanks, I am pleased you enjoyed it.

  • The horn is a selmer reference 36. I cannot blame the tools now :-)

  • No it sounds Great I use a Reference 54 myself but I have only been learning to play the Sax for just over 12 months its going ok but your videos are inspiring Thanks

  • thats frekin sweet! you should learn the just the two of us sax solo by bill withers.

  • I have tried it, but it doesn't suit me....... I love the tune though. Thanks for the kind words

  • Great Job!! i always loved this one. Congratulations on the new tenor!!

  • Thanks darrel, I am through with polishing it for today :-)

  • Sweet tone. Congrats on the new sax, great song. Are you still using aebersold backings?

  • Cheers mate, these are my new secret weapon, the Hal Leonard Real Book playalongs. Amazon sell tem for $16 a set, four required to cover the whole real book (6th edition) a bargain!!

  • Cheers mate, don't use my melody or timing though... it is all over the shop (it my thing...) try a good vocal version by someone like Sarah Vaughan or Ella so you can get the right idea :-)

  • baeutiful:) i'm gonna try learning that:)
