  • I am suprised to see it has a nylon gear on the stock cam. I have a couple of these engine but they apear to have one piece rin cams.

What are the specifications of this replacement cam and where did you buy it?

  • Hi, it is a 'Superbox' spec one from ARC Racing in the USA. .275" lift. I got it as part of 'Superbox' kit but you can get it seperately.

    Cheers,

    Rob.

  • Thank You Rob:

I see you stayed with a stock float carb. did you consider a Tillotson HL. Its about the size and would suffer from fuel sloshing around.

I will assume you had the chance to see the performance of the engine before the Super box kit. Do you think its worth it?

  • Hello,

The purpose of my venture with this engine is to make as cheap a paramotor (ppg) as possible and so I've had to make compromises. The Superbox kit roughly gave me the power I needed with the standard carb (+bigger jet) for a reasonable price and I can build a complete paramotor for less than £1000 where as commercial motors start from £2500 going upto +£5000.

As it's an aviation project I've not had the engine running prior to the mods being fitted.

    Cheers,

    Rob.

  • From what I gather the Super box Kit you chose has stock dish piston and compression ration.

Probaly good to keep the stress moderate on the internal engine parts for your aplication.

    Very interesting

    Thank you for your time

  • Hi,

Yeah, it has the stock piston in it but the GX160 head does raise the compression a little bit.

I'm glad to be of help,

    Rob.

  • Ya I had heard that but I didn't realy follow up and loo at it hard.

I guess its a cheap enough upgrade I'll see if I can get a scrap 160

  • hi there!

i want to buy one of these on ebay too.

is there a clutch on it? if not, where i can get one?

    please mail me

    ps. i'm from germany =p

  • Hello, I have my heart set on taking to the skies on a ppg, but no cash! This video is a revelation to me - I have only just started looking into making my own. I weigh 80kgs, can you please tell me whether this motor would do assuming I modded it the same or are there any other low cost engine options? I am interested in long distance flying.

    Regards, Dan.

  • it might be hard to get 15-16hp with the stock carb

  • Hello, the carb is the weak link now but I have drilled the jet out to 100# as it wasn't running well(wouldn't rev over 1500). If power is still insufficient then I'll go for a 390 or Mikuni carb. I would also consider a wilder cam and/or 14cc head instead of 18cc 160 head.

    Cheers, Rob.

  • Hello again, I've got a GX160 head now. All the upgrade parts have been fitted now apart from the head(I'll do that tomorrow). I'm looking at 14-15hp with this engine.

One of my US contacts says he would be happy to supply bespoke modified 15-16hp engines for less than $700 if my project went commercial. That would save me sourcing parts and upgrading the engines myself. Plus, the mods would be expertly fitted.

  • Hello Peeps!!!!! When I've got the engine in bits, part of the upgrade is to fit a new billet con rod. This means I need to remove the cylinder head. So I could order a GX160 head for about £40 and fit that instead. This is a popular karting mod to raise compression ratio from 7.9 to 9. If I'm lucky, the power might then exceed 15hp. A milled head can raise compression upto 12 but I won't go that far just yet.

I've got a 2 week wait on the prop too :o(

  • you building the cage out of ally? or steel where you gwtting the prop from how long dose it take to make

  • hi got any thurther on the egg 2? not having much luck with the bailey at the mo the jpx engine is quite compact where as the kmx engine is quite long strugling to fit in frame its goin to be bit hevier but more power so all good

  • Well, I've paid for prop today so that's being made. The Upgrade kit is somewhere between the US and UK. I've got the hub to mate the prop to the engine, just need some 20mm X 20mm square tubing for the frame and the construction can begin.

  • just found out my password for my own account not using my girlfriends any more pinkplaym808

dose not do the image any good lol goin to start the project to day get the engine choped and welded will try getsome vids

  • yeh will do thanx going to get ma m8 to cut come ally on his plasma cutter cnc to make a guard so if any thing happens the hot water will go backwards get some vids of your new cage and that asap like to see people trying to do it on there own.

  • i think the 125 is 17hp the 200 is ether 27hp or 33hp but plenty of what i need i have the 125 head barrel and piston aswell as the 200 headbarrel and piston so probley use the 200 as less running will be needed il try getting some vids when i get started

  • Bl**dy H*ll!!! Even if it's only 27hp then you'll only need to tickle the throttle and you'd be away. Please secure the cooling hose clamps as best as poss. I don't want you to end up with scalding water over your head/back.

  • Can't wait to see some of your vids 808.

I'm tempted(as the GX200 mods are relatively cheap)to order a GX160 head and maybe a 22mm Mikuni carb(total $120). The extra compression(10.5 instead of 9) and improved breathing should liberate an extra horse or three. I'll probably wait until I've done a thrust test with the upgrade kit first before deciding on upping the power. Gotta keep your options open!?!?! ;o)

  • the go kart engine i went to see was a no go but i have a water cooled kmx 200 engine what is goin to a engineer to be cut and welded to get rid of the gearbox

  • How much power has the KMX?

My hub arrived today so I can go ahead and order the prop now I've got the drilling dimensions. Just the upgrade kit to arrive and a frame to fabricate now ;o)
