  • now what if the dog is a full grown German Shepherd and only jumps if a new person walks in? Do i just take advantage of the new person walking in and start training?

  • @AllTimeChazi In initial training it is a very good idea to tether the dog like the experienced ASPCA trainer is doing here. The tether aids the training by preventing the dog from jumping. Once the dog isn't jumping while tethered, then you can move on to the next step. It's always best to convince a dog to position himself rather than physically manipulate. You want a dog to offer the behavior on his own. If you physically manipulate them they may only offer behavior in YOUR presence ONLY.

  • Using this method teaches the dog that in order to get treats, he must sit or remain on all four paws. So what happens if you don't have treats? The dog will jump on you. It doesn't teach your dog to not jump on you at ALL times. At one point in the video the dog was about to jump but the lady told it to sit, and instead of jumping, it sat. You can use that method too (tell your dog to perform another behaviour when it's about to jump).

  • @MBLAQandAnimals I would recommend reading up on "variable reinforcement schedules." In the beginning it is important to reward heavily especially if the jumping behavior is really strong. It's also important to reward the dog heavily for any sits that are offered on their own. That way over time the dog will begin to offer a sit instead of a jump. Treats need to be stuffed everywhere around the home for capturing behaviors. Mix treat rewards with belly praise, belly rubs, play, etc.

  • Great video! but is it okay to feed my dog broken up pieces of teeth whitening and breath refreshing treats as a snack?

  • very good demonstration with Positive :o))

  • Great video! Thanks!!

  • We've been having so much problems with our new puppy jumping on us and this video has helped in 5 min. He immediately understood! Thank you so much! Do you have any videos on training them not to jump on young kids that can't do this exercise?

  • Pretty good advice, but my dog would get so fat if I keep "treating" him like that. It's better to highly praise and pet, not feed.

  • @fraudrea7 Not really. You use very small bits of low-cal, high-value treats. Some dogs are highly food motivated wheras others will work for praise and attention. You can also use a dog's meals as their reward so they're not getting additional foods or treats. All dogs differ, but generally a well-exercised dog who is fed the right amounts will not get "fat" just by getting treats during training sessions.

  • Hi i have a tea cup maltese named Kayla she very small and loves to jump up on people like my friend Nick the last time Nick came over she bit him and i never taught her to stop biting and i wanted to know if you can help he not hurt its just i dont want Kayla to be biting all of our house guest and i tried the other people videos they dont work but im hoping you can help me plz reply!!!plz HELP!!!!!!!

  • Hi, yesterday I was mad at my dog because he ate my cupcake, I shouted really loud.

I said words i really didn't mean, now my dog ignores me...

I tried everything but no succes. I starting to have suicidal thoughts, i really miss my dog

    can you help me pls??

    thank you

  • @l6ST11,

You're not alone. Lots of common dog habits can be frustrating, and many pet parents lose their tempers sometimes. Don't be too hard on yourself. Just spend some quality time with your dog. Try playing a game, taking a walk together or feeding him some treats. He'll come around.

If you're truly feeling suicidal, please get help! Here are a few resources:

  • @ASPCAABC no it's ok, it was just a cupcake, thnx for the support

  • @l6ST11 How old is your dog? and don't worry about your dog ignoring you because in the end the dog has to eat the food of their masters crumb. Just remember you have to in the authority and the dog has to be submissive towards you. Dog eating your cupcake is not a good sign of authority he is basically doing what he likes. Next time rather then yelling at him, make a territorial marks. I can't type everything but free feel to email me.

  • dose it hurt? a dogs neva jumped on me b4 im getting 1 soon im scared it'll jump on me

  • My puppy never jumps on me, but jumps on other people (because people on the streets keep petting her after she jumps on them).

    )

  • good vid

  • Can I jump on you Kristen?

  • @CodeTwo2 waaahahaahaa very good comment

  • My dog knows that he isn't allowed to jump, so what he does is hit ad run. I haven't been able to find anything on how to correct a dog when he isn't there, to correct him

  • thats really cool

  • same my dog wen i give it water it starts to jump on me and it gets on my nerves

  • i have an american bulldog and he weighs 50 kgs, he will push me over if i turn my back on him and start to hump the back of my head.

  • great video but what if your dog doesnt preform well on a leash?

  • check out the amazing dog man. Basically, instead of ignoring the dog, when it jumps, you grab it's paws and then tell it 'off' so the dog associates it's paws being grabbed(they dont like it) with jumping...pavlov would be so proud

  • what if my dog is BIG and i cant do that

  • @RabidDog51 taze the dog then when he wakes up treat him

  • It's a good video but the trainer is giving the treats too soon. She should have waited till the dog was completely calm to give it the treat instead of giving the treat as soon as the dog jumped off.

  • what breed is that dog?

  • @kyoranlee looks kind of like a chuwawah idk how to spell lol

  • I appreciate seeing someone using dogs that are currently being trained. Watching most of the other videos that use already-trained dogs are not nearly as helpful. Great series of videos!

  • butterflyjan44@bresnan.net

  • thx, but can u demostrate wid a big breed adult dog ?

  • How do you "not pay any attention" if your dog is 100 lbs and can knock you over when he jumps on you?

  • I hope you turn your back on me so I can work on bending it.

  • the trainer is so darn CUTE it's distracting!!!

  • I like how they use a dog that is actually misbehaving, instead of using a perfectly trained dog!

  • thank you so much i got mine trained with your tip the best :]

  • the trainer is cute!

  • nope wouldnt work on my 7 stone 11 month old dobermann pup tried ignore when i come home from work he just got more determined and excited to greet me, found hanging onto his front paws when he jumps till he pulls em away works betta with off command.

  • Turning your back on big dogs (even small ones) is not the greatest idea. This is an easy sign of weakness.

I'd do something as simple as your normal corrective sound (anything) and if it continues, just ignore without turning away.

  • excellent video positive reinforcement for positive behavior

  • Yates88crn and LunaFiskGal: Watch the Dog Whisperer: "Jumping Border Collie". Big dogs like yours need to learn not to jump up on people, otherwise you'll be in a lifetime of misery.

  • This works on my toy poodle. Its easy for my 5 yr old daughter to do when he jumps on her.

  • This does not work with my 99.5 pound Chesapeake Bay Retriever. When I turn my back, he just humps me.... Can you send Victoria Stillwell to my house please. lol

  • lol thats so funny just keep trying

  • Great video. A lot better than Expert Village. All they said was to practice outside and inside, to prepare your dog. But, this video is 5 stars.

  • I think this is the best video. Thanks. All the other is only talk.

  • i tried this with my dog and she doesnt care if your back is turned she will just keep jumping on your back. not to mention it hurts, and she hurts little kids. shes a 5 1/2 month old German shepherd

  • thank you so much. i will try this to my jumping dog.

  • thanks

  • thanks!! I'm going to try this!

  • I'd like to jump on her.

  • i wish my puppy stop humping me

  • thanks so much for this! nice video =D ill see if this works with my puppy

  • thanks it helped but idk why this video was just so annoying

  • Wow this was really helpful

  • GAH every video i have seen my dogs to big hell just jump and knock me over
