This is simply my opinion, as I've heard this aria done by many different sopranos, It just bothers me that she sang this Dvorak aria in Italian...it's almots like it's a cop out because she couldn't handle the Czech. And she sounds so airy, lacking support. Look up Renee Fleming's earlier recording for a better performance.
people sing the rendition of a song in the language that appeals to them... if it got sung in Italian, it could simply be it is unappealing for many in Czech. at least SB rendition is a more feminine rendition, whereas RF is a more masculine rendition, and you happen to find that more appealing. SB sings it in a way that is very hers, no cop out on her part.
I hope I didn't offend you or others with my comment about SB's notes. I'm used to hearing this aria performed by classical singers. Perhaps you'd like Renee Flemming's version of this. It's under the title "Song to the Moon" from Dvorak'sopera " Rusalka". One thing good about Sarah B's work is that she helps to bridge the gap between classical and pop. I'm just not used to the casual style she uses. She is a good performer, though.
Don't apologize. You're correct. When I'd heard this was made, I went searching. It just leaves me with a large expression of question and confusion on my face...and it's not even the original song, which, to me, is a tad irritating...
love sarah

The last phrase of the song is so powerful and touching: Luna scomparira!! "the moon will vanish" And the song abruptly ends.

Is it also under the title "O Silver Moon"? Anna Netrebko's version seems to be under that title in the compilation album I have.

Aren't you getting confused with "Hijo de la Luna", also in her "La Luna" CD?
muscle25ftl 2 years ago
the us version of her la luna cd features a more poppy version of this song

Yes~ I have the same feeling! Especially the 30th second~ How spectacular is it!
However, I also think she should sing more earnest before that.
