@daToinado You've been doing your daughter possibly a big disservice. Reading by memorizing shapes of words is otherwise known as dyslexia. That's when you can't decode the letters into sounds, but instead memorize words as units. We have a phonetic writing system and if you skip the phonetic decoding step, you're setting yourself up for failure. There's plenty of words out there that we all see for the first time. Good luck with them if you can't sound them out.

If you can only read a fixed set of words, you can't really read because you skip an ever important step. If you want to know if your kid can really read, show her nonsense but pronounceable words. I loved Carlin and always felt the same way about the pride BS--its that kind of thinking that separates us. And I love that he teaches to question things--indeed, I am teaching my kids to think critically and assess...what I find odd however, is how some Carlin followers will beat you up or call you a non fan if you do not agree with everything Carlin says--isn't this counter his very philosophy of life?

@Lazypackmule My daughter, who is now 25 years old, read 3 grade levels ahead her entire school career. Tested off the charts all the way through! Loves to read for pleasure to this day. So if the results were not in already about what such reading methods produces, I might care about your mindless rant. She was also a Screen Actors Guild member by the age of two having appeared in national commercials and earning 57,000. along the way. The car she drives is the one she paid cash for!

@Lazypackmule No, I don't agree...my take is that 'normal' people are substandard thus making people like George APPEAR genius. Much like my daughter looked like some amazing WIZ cause she could read 97 words at 2 and a half. She wasn't a fricking WIZ...the other two year old's parents just didn't read and put into practice 'How to Teach Your Baby To Read' by Glen Doman. I did so she could read. George sees the same crap we all do or should...SHEEPLE just aren't bold enough to say what they see.

@daToinado You've been doing your daughter possibly a big disservice. Reading by memorizing shapes of words is otherwise known as dyslexia. That's when you can't decode the letters into sounds, but instead memorize words as units. We have a phonetic writing system and if you skip the phonetic decoding step, you're setting yourself up for failure. There's plenty of words out there that we all see for the first time. Good luck with them if you can't sound them out.

@daToinado There's no reason why reading at age 2 must be any good for you. I don't know whose marketing has planted that crazy idea in people's minds, but sorry, it's fairly ridiculous. If you can only read a fixed set of words, you can't really read because you skip an ever important step. If you want to know if your kid can really read, show her nonsense but pronounceable words. Long ones. Anyone who can't deal with those is really reading deficient and will pay for it throughout their life.

@daToinado There are ADULTS who can't well read nonsense words, and they are in disbelief when they are informed that yes, in fact that's a big fucking problem. Why? Because your brain is constantly being distracted by having to involve conscious thought in decoding sounds while reading unfamiliar words. You can't read well, without being distracted by technicalities of reading itself, if you can't decode sounds WELL. Reading must be automatic, and that includes decoding letters into sounds.
