Actually, the Daily Show got the story right, just indirectly. Dick Cheney had his house censored across multiple satellite imaging services. He didn't have to ask Google Earth to remove it because he'd already removed it before it got in the hands of Google Earth. If you'll notice, after Cheney left, the residence became visible again.

Nobody seems to notice the fact that Jon said Cheney OPTED to remove his house from google earth. Though many people think opted means it's a choice which is allowed and then done, that is not the definition of the word opted. He chose/elected to/prefered not to, but that does not mean the option was necessarily allowed.
To opt out is to make the choice to not have it done, and have that choice allowed. To opt does not mean this. So in that fact, Jon was not wrong, as Cheney did want it.

The problem with this type of argument is that even if the daily show were a real news show, an error like this doesn't mean that it's a bad news show. Even legitimate news programs are going to get caught up over errors or misinformation every once in a while, and it doesn't mean they're henceforth an unreliable source of news. These things happen. It's just part of the news system.

Nobody seems to notice the fact that Jon said Cheney OPTED to remove his house from google earth. Though many people think opted means it's a choice which is allowed and then done, that is not the definition of the word opted. He chose/elected to/prefered not to, but that does not mean the option was necessarily allowed.
To opt out is to make the choice to not have it done, and have that choice allowed. To opt does not mean this. So in that fact, Jon was not wrong, as Cheney did want it.

The problem with this type of argument is that even if the daily show were a real news show, an error like this doesn't mean that it's a bad news show. Even legitimate news programs are going to get caught up over errors or misinformation every once in a while, and it doesn't mean they're henceforth an unreliable source of news. These things happen. It's just part of the news system.
However, the daily show isn't a real news show anyway, so what's the point even?

I had seen this on google earth before it was reported on the daily show. The Naval Observatory, including the entire ring road around it, was pixelated out of the picture, just like you see in the video.
I mean i'm not really empirical evidence of that, its just my word.
