@Chris07860 This movie is very outdated...we have a different coop now.
I probably won't be doing anymore coop videos simply because I don't really have anything to say... We haven't ever had problems with bears or foxes...but we do keep them in an enclosed area and shut them inside at night.
beautiful chickens come visit my channel its called chickaholick1995 its got all my chicks and on sunday there will b some more vids of my new one old chicks so on sunday moring there will b 3 or 4 new chicks anda out side apart of my cats if they attck them o well xxxx thanx
Nice set up you have. I have a small flock myself (9 birds) and they are great. Messy for sure though! I am forever cleaning them. D: I love them though and it`s nice to have fresh eggs.
If you live in the area of Portland, OR or Seattle WA, why not just order one from us? at: the chicken tractor company dot com We deliver! Check us out! We are all about green living and love to promote it by having the tractors available for those who do not have the time to build them.
Informative video! My husband and I are getting 9 baby girls in two weeks and are building our coop now. We've never had chickens before OR built a coop, so this was helpful to see how the chickens USE their roosts and next boxes, which you don't see when you look at chicken coop plans! They seem very very happy!
@mskittystone Some chickens use nest boxes and roosts... *eyes her birds* Mine refuse to use the nest boxes half the time. I have found eggs on the floor, on straw bales, and all over the barn. It`s like an Easter egg hunt every day. Not sure if you are getting chicks, pullets or hens, but once they are hens expect 9 eggs a day... if they are really happy as many as 18 a day for the first year (mine all laid two eggs a day for the first year)- be ready to bake lots lol.
I really enjoyed this video, and no, it wasn't too long. I got my first chicks, Saturday 4-10-10 and I need to learn everything I can. Thanks for posting this.
@dgbregman I live in regular suburbs and have had chickens here for the past 4-5 years-no problems. My neighbors are fine with it. They are rather quiet because I only have hens (no crowing roosters). I take walks in the neighborhood often & every year I hear more and more chickens & even roosters in peoples yards in my area. In this neighborhood you'd never think people would be raising chickens. I doubt they are even allowed here, but food in stores can't be trusted so we raise our own!
Depending on where you live you should check the local ordinances before setting up for chickens. I know in Europe they are a little more receptive to the idea of homeowners keeping chickens, but in the US most places have ordinances prohibiting livestock ownership in non-farm areas. You wouldn't want to commit to the expense of raising chickens only to have the city inspector send you a summons. Even in places that allow chickens, roosters may still be illegal because of the noise.
Those were probably fine without refridgeration b/c it was cool out. Eggs used to not be kept in fridges you know...room temperature is perfectly fine. In summer when it's hot we just make sure to bring them in within a few hours.
nice chicken coop , its awsome , i do only write polite comments , i know how it is lol , but yes , nice horses im out on farm too lol. i always giggle when i see chickens or coops i really dunno y but it seems there might be humor in chickens i guess , nice coop , and nice snow lol!. i know how that snow is im from northern Massachusetts which i understand how it is in this video. ya seem nice lol. nice chickens ya rule hah. the Powerpuff gurl chiken looks like the king ,thats awsome
I loved your video :) Chickens have such great personalities don't they? I have named all of my girls too. And your right, there are some that remind me of boys, even though I know they are girls!
It looks like your chickens love it, your doing a great job, and yer i agree if you go in there coop the wont shut up, I have had 3 light sussex girls fr a couple of months and they have only just stopped attacking me....
We don't want to deal with the noise of the rooster...plus, we only want babies every 2 1/2 years....and we don't want our girls to have a rooster sitting on them all the time...
Hi, I dont *think Ive commented on this before... Ive watched it a few times though. lol Very nice coop, you've got some great frame work on the doors, specially the nest box doors. So why not just get a rooster and hatch your own babies?
For the, umm...jerk who called me a rude name for having my chickens out in the cold..would like to point out.
1) The chicken choose to go out. If it's so "cold" then I'm pretty sure they'd be in on the roost together.
2) Chicken's aren't wimps. Just because it's cold does not mean it will die. So far (last 3 years) our chickens have survived. I'll let you know if they don't.
@RidingDaisy hi pleaase can u help me its just that i really want chicken but my parents wont let me and we have the money nd stuff but can u just tell me or rather my parents why chickens are so cool. thanks carys.xxx
@tymawr101 I'm guessing your parents don't want you to have them because they think you aren't responsible enough... in which case, you need to prove to them you are. Even if you have the money, maybe you should save your own to be able to build a coop and get the chickens. If you really really want them, you can earn the money for them, and that really shows responsibility.
Some people choose not to name them if you plan on slaughtering them. It makes it easire to let them go....we name them anyway. The way we see it, we'd rather enjoy our birds for the 2 years that we have them WITH names than not enjoy them as much without names just because we plan on letting them go...hope that makes sense.
Ummm, there is no cost per month to have a coop...and to make your own, it depends on the size of the coop...I'd guess that our "tractor" coop was around a couple hundred dollars...it's lasted 2 years now...
And during the summer, we can expect 1 egg a day from each bird....during the winter, about half that much. :)
Enjoyed the tour of your chicken coop, I laughed out loud. Your hens are beautiful and your narrative describing your birds is absolutely charming. I can tell you are a wonderful, caring animal love. Thank you for sharing.
I'm not sure which hen you mean, but most of our hens will lay one egg a day...maybe less. We had 10 hens and could expect 6 eggs on a good day in winter, 8 eggs a day or 9 in summer.
We kept our chickens for the eggs for 1 3/4 years, then gave them to someone else who slaughtered them and will eat them...we couldn't do it...too sad...anyway, we had to give them up b/c they stopped laying eggs...however, while the person came to take them, one got away, and after a week in the woods it came home (now named Survivor) and we got one chicken back so now we have Bibbi and Survivor...we're getting 16 new chicks this week. Can't wait! :) We're in upstate New York...
My Uncle is a farmer too and he has a chicken coop the size of a trailer! And he has employees to clean it, it actually smells like flowers, its scary O.O
My dad built the coop...I'm really not sure how much money the wood and stain cost(and hardware, etc)...I'll try to find out, if you'd like! Good luck with your chickens! :D
We have one family we sell eggs to about once a week, but most of the time we keep them for ourselves or give them away...since we only have 10 chickens, we only get about 8 eggs max. a day...sometimes (like right now) as little as three or four a day, so...
being blonde... i guess it applies to the chickens too! jk :)
