hey man nice guitar,, would you know the wiring of this guitar... coz i got the same guitar and i need the diagram to upgrade the pots and the pickups....
I got a epiphone les paul custom, which i bought with emg 81/85 pickups, i thinking of making it into a full fledged metal machine and adding a trem, Should i install a floyd rose or are there easier and cheaper options
what i wont to know is how could i put in a floyd rose on a guitar without a tremolo on it. the guitar is a ESP LTD EC 10, its hard to find someone that knows... plz help
On my guitar it seems like the floyd was installed crooked.1:20 you can see the new posts you installed and they look parallel to the green tape. If those were my posts one would be closer to the tape and one would be closer to the cavity. Not sure you understand what im saying but when i go to dive the bar all the way down, all the strings go slack except for the high E which detunes to maby an A? It seems like the crooked posts are effecting the performance. Ever seen a setup like that? Thanks
@NICKWAPPERER117 Hey dude, on a strat, you can fit a floyd rose without routing the top of the body, only posts to reposition and lock nut to fit. Only problem is that if you don't route the body, you wont get much pull up, but hey, worked ok for Eddie Van Halen. You may have to route the trem cavity a little at the back though.
i have a question, i have a Jackson Js-1 and i want to change the bridge( its a crappy one) because its kinda messed up, and i want to get a floyd rose, so how much is one, and i can install it on my jackson? :S please help Thanks
Hi, I need to install a floyd rose on my fat strat. As I am mostly into van halen, I will only be doing divebombs. Will I need to rout my guitar in any way? what modifications will have to be done to the body? thanks
@StratBanez101 yes, you might need to shim the neck but i dont like to do that. you could also shave some wood from the body where the neck bolts on, this will change the angle of the neck. that would lower the string action.but be very carefull taking wood away, its a one shot deal and if its done wrong its done forever. good luck
Did you follow the floyd rose depth patterns exactly? I note that FR site puts the depth of the peg hole (on original floyd) level at .260 below guitar, and the back cavity at .4400 / must the routing be this precise, or would 1/4 inch and 7/16 inch be close enough?? (2) If you know, does the Gotoh floyd require the same routing?
@Flatted357 no it doesnt have to be exact, i made the bridge hole about 3/16 of an inch bigger than the bridge. as far as under the bridge i just kept removing wood until the bridge moved freely. the post holes do have to be exact,if not the guitar will never intonate.
@guitaristshobi once you put the new strings on the bridge will return back to the normal position. i always replace one string at a time so that doesnt happen, but if you put a piece of cardboard or even an old pick gaurd under the bridge before taking the strings off it stops the bridge from moving.this helps to protect the paint.
hey man im currently installing a floyd on my guitar how did u find out the exact place to put the floyd posts/ and depth of the route in which the posts are placed? are there any tips u can give me?
@dmohr7 the distance from the nut to the old bridge saddles should be the same as the nut to the floyd saddles, check out the floyd rose web site, they have lots of info there.
wow, i have a samik, its like a cheapy version of a strat, but i had a regular like blues style whamy bridge in there, it wasnt even a floater, so i took that off, drilled some holes for the postes and shoved the bridge in and it was off so i cocked the neck and raised the bridge so the action wasnt too high off the neck
great video! also, It kinda looks like you cut out the body with a dremel. How deep did you go in? I'm wanting to do that same thing only with a ESP LTD M-50. Also, How hard was it to put the lacking nut on?
@AustinFrestone i use an old bolt with the same thread as the post, i screw the bolt all the way in and put the claw end of a hammer under the head of the bolt.then i slowly and very carfully pry the bolt and post straight out. be sure to put a wooden block under the hammer to protect the guitar body.
Im doing the exact same thing ive got the body done but how do you add the spacer for the neck lock nut . Did u. Cut the neck then added wood as the spacer help???!
@Metallicaforever95 i dont know what kind of neck you have.the only reason for adding the spacer is because there wasnt enough wood under the locking nut for proper support. i didnt cut the neck but i did remove the finish under the spacer so it could be glued in place. after the nut is installed the spacer cant be seen.
i have a question im thinking of buy a bc rich iron bird its on sale for $270 and its originally $400 its $470 with the floyd rose included i like the floyd rose with the locking nuts and the awesome pull back wammy bar but im not sure how much the floyd rose and the instalation will cost anyone have any tips or know how much it is??
wold it be good for me to buy a jackson thats like 200 and have some 1 put a floyd rose on it??? i relly dont want to f up a beuitifull guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so would it save money?
It wouldn't really be good to put a floyd rose in a crappy $200 guitar, especially if you get someone else to do it. I would just buy one that has a floyd rose preinstalled.
lemme be one to say, you are incredible. I wouldn't be able to finish that. The patince and dedication of yours. I would give up 1/3rd of the way, and cry at the end when i found out i fucked up. Luckily i have a Dx10d with a floyd rose already on it so hooray for me!
@333reid333 i replaced the nut with a locking nut.in the video i only show the spacer under the locking nut. check out my video BIO HAZARD GUITAR and see how i totally customized this guitar. its cool!
Hey um. I was thinking of buying a Floyd Rose for my Ibanez. The trem already on the guitar is not locking but the bridge is semi-floating, as in it already has the posts. My questions are how deep do you need to cut into the body to install the Floyd? And how do you get the template for where to cut? Help would be appreciated.
@ZACWOLFRE721 the only reason for cuting into the body is to make the bridge free flouting, that means you can pull back on the floyd as well as down.i dont use templates i just measure very carefully what i need to do.if the old bridge is not a floyd rose the post might not be in the same position. hope this helps john
can u please make a video on how to install the locking nut on a guitar that doesnt have a locking nut please i will add and sub! and tell other people!
@MANSLAUGHTER102 depends on the guitar but really all it takes is sanding and some wood working... im gonna get another strat and install another one soon as i get the money... quick tip tho for everyone... the floyd rose "licensed" tremolos are often weaker metals... i learned that the hard way... probably best to get the german made expensive FR trem.
@jbstuf can I install a Floyd rose on a Dean Vendetta with tremelo? Does it have the space necessary to install one? if so, what would be the measurements I would have to be looking for ? 42 mm or 43 mm?
this is quite a good video, any chance of you doing another more detailed vid with some tips on it, and actually showing how you did the holes and finishing off the body work? also what the dimentions are for the holes ie depth width ect.... that would be awesome
@switch0123 i installed a floyd rose in my strat.... got any questions im here... it was my first time doing it and after i did it im confident i can do it to any guitar..
@frontsideflipem Hey um. I was thinking of buying a Floyd Rose for my Ibanez. The trem already on the guitar is not locking but the bridge is semi-floating, as in it already has the posts. @frontsideflipem Hey um. I was thinking of buying a Floyd Rose for my Ibanez. The trem already on the guitar is not locking. My questions are how deep do you need to cut into the body to install the Floyd? And how do you get the template for where to cut? Thats is thanks
@ZACWOLFRE721 as deep as you need to... i made the template myself by tracing my tremolo and measuring where it needed to go as opposed to the old trem.
@MANSLAUGHTER102 take the neck bridge off and sand the headstock to accomodate the locking nut at the same height as your neck bridge stood... your locking nut is your new neckbridge so now you dont need that little white plastic.. it might cover your truss rod but you can always remove the locking nut if you need to adjust it... do not under any circumstance sand the fret board... just dont.. i fasened the locking nut with little wood mounting screws that came with my tremolo when i bought it..
@MANSLAUGHTER102 yes... and yes... i actually used a rotary too with a little sandpaper tool but sandpaper will work if you are good at it... if not you can use a chisel or wood carving tools... remember to take tiny bits off at a time... easier to remove wood than to put it back on... lol
im actually doing the same thing with my rr js 30. to cut the body its easiest to use a router, but u need precise measurements. im not done yet but this vid. is helping out alot
you can install a floyd rose without routing or cutting into the body, but this wont be a free flouting bridge(pulling up aswell as down on the wammy bar)
you need to have a locking nut!! the floyd will never stay in tune with out it.
i know i sound really stupid right now but ive never really looked into bridges before but what is the thing called that has the three screws you tighten down where the neck meets the head stock and does it come with the floyd rose bridge?
Nice work man, looks really cool. What did you use to do the body routing? I might want to do that for a strat, I want to make some kind of hotrod stratocaster.
thanks for the comment.i used a rotary tool, i could have used a router but i would need to make a templet.i have a pretty steady hand so i went with the rotary tool.
how do you take the nut out of a standard tremelo i know with a floyd u just unscrew the screws but this has always puzzled me how to get rid of the standard guitar nut
Before asking you a question, This is a great video on how you were able to install a Floyed into this guitar. But what I want to know is does the guitar only have to have a tremolo system inorder to add this? Ive been wanting to add a Floyed to my ESP AX-50, which is only a TOM, so I want to know if this is possible?
possible but keep the following in mind. you will have alot of routing to do and losing that much wood is gunna affect sustain and tone. It will cost alot of money. especialy if it goes wrong. and if you want to put a decent flloyd on it , it's gunna cost alot. If your guitar is less than £250 then you may wanna consuder a cheap vintage ibanez or something. For the same reason i went and got an ibanez with a locking trem
would you be able to send me the dimensions that you used? im making a custom guitar and i need to cut out the trem cavity so i can pull up higher and yeah, the reason i need to know is coz at my local music store they wont do that kind of thing and yeah
is it possible to install a floyd on a randy rhoads jackson v

@ZACWOLFRE721 as deep as you need to... i made the template myself by tracing my tremolo and measuring where it needed to go as opposed to the old trem.

@frontsideflipem how did u instALL THE LOCKING NUT?
MANSLAUGHTER102 1 year ago
@MANSLAUGHTER102 take the neck bridge off and sand the headstock to accomodate the locking nut at the same height as your neck bridge stood... your locking nut is your new neckbridge so now you dont need that little white plastic.. it might cover your truss rod but you can always remove the locking nut if you need to adjust it... do not under any circumstance sand the fret board... just dont.. i fasened the locking nut with little wood mounting screws that came with my tremolo when i bought it..
frontsideflipem 1 year ago
@frontsideflipem so do u just keep sanding it till it makes space for the locking nut? oh do u use sand paper? just asking
MANSLAUGHTER102 1 year ago
@MANSLAUGHTER102 yes... and yes... i actually used a rotary too with a little sandpaper tool but sandpaper will work if you are good at it... if not you can use a chisel or wood carving tools... remember to take tiny bits off at a time... easier to remove wood than to put it back on... lol

im actually doing the same thing with my rr js 30. to cut the body its easiest to use a router, but u need precise measurements. im not done yet but this vid. is helping out alot

ok im thinking of doing the same thing with a dean that i have , it has a stock bridge like the one above but
do i have to make a groove \ cut to the body for the floyd rose?
or can i just shove one in there with out any cutting or making any arragements to the body?
and do i need to have the locking nuts ? or can i just use every thing stock an shove a floyd rose in there?

you can install a floyd rose without routing or cutting into the body, but this wont be a free flouting bridge(pulling up aswell as down on the wammy bar)
you need to have a locking nut!! the floyd will never stay in tune with out it.
jbstuf 2 years ago
did you install machine heads? because i read that without those, the locking nut is pretty much useless
robotthemusicmaker 2 years ago
i know i sound really stupid right now but ive never really looked into bridges before but what is the thing called that has the three screws you tighten down where the neck meets the head stock and does it come with the floyd rose bridge?
sk8erfreakaltway6 2 years ago
its called a locking nut,it should come with the bridge if you buy it new.

can this be reversed i mean can you replace a floyd rose with a a standard strat tremelo
pridefighter93 2 years ago
Could you piut a floyd in a pre cut standard trem hole ( un recced?
TheEyeOfThePanther 2 years ago
yes, the reason the bridge is recessed into the body is so the bridge can be pulled back aswell as down.
jbstuf 2 years ago
Does that mean that you don't have to recess the body? That is, if you don't care about having the up-bends.
Cheers

could a normal fender trem cavity do for a floyd?
joshthemangojunkee40 2 years ago 2
really good work

Nice work man, looks really cool. What did you use to do the body routing? I might want to do that for a strat, I want to make some kind of hotrod stratocaster.
DaanJM 2 years ago
thanks for the comment.i used a rotary tool, i could have used a router but i would need to make a templet.i have a pretty steady hand so i went with the rotary tool.

Didn't you install a strings retainer bar?
GphoenixD 2 years ago
Hello,
Before asking you a question, This is a great video on how you were able to install a Floyed into this guitar. But what I want to know is does the guitar only have to have a tremolo system inorder to add this? Ive been wanting to add a Floyed to my ESP AX-50, which is only a TOM, so I want to know if this is possible?
ddrumfanatic 2 years ago
yeah, you need to route out the back of the guitar for the springs.get sombody that really knows what they are doing.
jbstuf 2 years ago
possible but keep the following in mind. you will have alot of routing to do and losing that much wood is gunna affect sustain and tone.
TheAkaviri 2 years ago
would you be able to send me the dimensions that you used? im making a custom guitar and i need to cut out the trem cavity so i can pull up higher and yeah, the reason i need to know is coz at my local music store they wont do that kind of thing and yeah
