  • Check out my version at a1buzz22

  • Bowie is actually very different from Syd Barrett or Lou Reed. Go and learn about him, please.

His career is extraordinary and he accomplished things none ever did. He was always very open to new ideas, was never afraid of experimenting everything, in music, in life, in looks and concepts.

One of the biggest influence in Rock and Pop, a real God.

  • Chan chan chan changeeees ! tema pro dia de hoje

  • ¡Uffffff!. Maravilloso. Espectacular. Genial. Brutal. Bestial. Impresionante. insuperable. No tengo palabras para describirlo.

  • turn and face the strange or strain???

  • @humpdrunk strange

  • Bowie didn't copy any one, what he did was collect different aspects of things he liked and created this one image which he changed every once in awile. As somehow from crating images from other things h bacame an influene himself.

  • @marmel3000 Bowie is absolutely nothing like Syd Barrett or Velvet Underground. You've proven you're a moron, now I'm going to ignore you.

  • Go out and learn about Syd Barrett, the Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol flicks. He was a well-known imitator. Hunky Dory was awesome, everything else was a pile of rubbish.

  • uhhh. no. not a troll. bowie was a hack. sorry.

  • @Marmel3000 explain

  • @Marmel3000 actually no, don't bother

  • @Marmel3000 troll

  • @Marmel3000 Ok Hotshot - like who did he rip off? I want your top 3 on my desk for Friday morning. Don't be late!

  • its Morten Harket, no its David Bowie xD

  • there is an bootleg of this entire rehearsal out there - great stuff

  • I wish our rehearsal you tube clip was as good as this !! Mmmm I bet your all now intrigued as to how bad ours could be. Well go to my page and take a look for yourself !!

  • the scat! howard moon woulda luvved it.(that s me)vince noir woulda broke out in hives.(thats the rest of you pretty sods) saw this tour.or the next one. '77? or so. oakland, calif. about 1/4mile off. the cheap seats.cured me forever of rock and roll. me last rock concert ever.so programmed,so slick. lights up .lights down.pose 1, pose 2, 3, etc. went into jazz and blues. never looked back. love his songs. hate the repetitive nature of commercial pop/rock. pretty nice scatting , tho, davy boy.

  • A 'scat' version of Changes...Love it!!!

  • 3:41 ahahah fenomenal! I love David ^ ^

  • This is just David Bowie ! Simply the best !

  • This is just David Bowie ! Simply the bset !

  • I am trying to see if that is Tony Kaye on keyboards. He toured with Bowie that year. Ironically it was Rick Wakeman who first recorded "Changes" with Bowie. Wakeman replaced Kaye in Yes. Tables turned, Kaye then played Wakeman's parts on this Bowie tour.

  • So what if his smoking furred up his artery's...

  • That bass solo closing it was great.

  • i love 'chenges' but, it is better to change back vocal. tune is out and unstayable,,,,

  • What a fab post! Thank you! Big sloppy wet kisses for this!!

  • Saving his voice, or he is going through his Van Morrision phase.lol Great clip.

  • Well he´s does it better without the drugs.

  • Only Bowie could sound as good as he does with a cigarette in his hand!

  • Hmm... the background vocals were a little off in this session.

  • Please have a listen to Dave Lennard a new singer songwriter trying to get his voice heard, thanks

  • It sounded great with a FM transistor radio hid under the pillow in 1972.

  • HONKY! THE THIN WHITE PUKE!!!!!!!

  • @mrmikespence1964 mega troll!

  • that was fun...his beloved Canada...and ours.

thanks for this, brought back the mems of the massive Toronto,Canad show in Spring '76

  • This song was in shrek !! sacrilegious.......

  • voice al jarreau????

  • who doesn't love the duke XD

  • Indeed and agreed! Hope that your New Year is a GROOVY one!

  • That's what I think, you wouldn't believe the flack I have gotten lol! Bowie is beautiful as is his music!

  • Nice bass solo

  • Who ever sent me the message that Billy Joel is a better artist than David Bowie is ridiculous, even Billy Joel would say that isn't true lol! Honestly, not by any stretch of the imagination is it even close, it is to laugh! I don't see ANY other artist trying to emulate or pay homage to Billy Joel! I think that Billy is probably a nice fellow but any comparison to David Bowie's talent is ludicrous!

  • i've never seen shrek, even though i'm the guy who pays for it. Movies,DVDs. games.

  • Bowie does not have to rehearse, he's too professional

  • Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick!!! Thank you, sir, for this epic video!

Return of the Thin White Duke!

  • This is from the Thin White Duke era when he was surviving entirely on "red peppers, cocaine and milk"

  • I saw this show when it came to Toronto - etched in my psyche like yesterday.

  • If people say "Oh, it's from Shrek", I don't really care. I am just happy that they are here to listen to this good, good, supergood song and honour David Bowie.

For you who says "Oh, it's from Shrek": It doesn't matter how you got here, it's just awesome you can love this song too :D

  • Possibly my favourite tour. Dennis did an outrageous drum solo on Detroit every night and no two were the same believe me.

  • supernice!who filmed this?

  • Somebody in the backround is singing off key.

Zb major I think it is. LOL

  • Art is Bowie Bowie is Art We are Art

  • Saw him live during this tour, 6/2/76 San Fransisco Cow Palace. He was soooo smooth, and danced divinely, like he was floating on air. What a beautiful man, with a beautiful voice.

  • @moosehose I saw the same tour, a couple of days after you did, at the Inglewood Forum in Los Angeles. Very solid, dynamic performance; far warmer and happy than the chilly, remote but fascinating Diamond Dogs tour. BTW, you profile says you're 30. That means you saw the Cow Palace show four years before you were born. What's up with that? Is my math off or something?

  • @TVC15ohoh Don't know why it shows I'm 30, I'm actually 52. I tried to change it, but I couldn't. Oh well, I wouldn't mind at all being 30 again!

  • @moosehose Yes, 30 would be good. 26 even better. I'm right behind at 51. Did you continue to be a Bowie fan throughout his career or did things peter out for you after Let's Dance? The last four albums he's released, "Reality," "Heathen," "Hours...," and "Earthling" are all worthwhile and albums a true Bowie fan would have in their collection. "Heathen" especially smacks of classic Bowie, partially due, I'm sure, to the presence of Tony Visconti, Bowie's producer back in the early '70's.

  • Haha! This is great, I love seeing him acting goofy. When he does the high bits at 1:51 and 3:42 I crack up. <3

  • Read about this tour in an issue of Uncut Magazine recently. Good stuff.

  • this sounds like he was getting ready for his Las Vegas niteclub shows with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Tom Jones ba-ba-ba-BOUIE

  • Wtf is that piano? Fking amazin tune

  • Awesome upload Gary!!!

    Cheers or sharing..*-)

  • WHo the hell said he ruined it? There's nothing he possibly can do to ruin ANYTHING... If you can do anything at all with Nine Inch Nails or Iggy "Heroin instead of water" Pop, it's impossible to fail with something else

  • that little eartha kitt riff before he scats is priceless.

  • David is Tough-camp-south-london on -south-bronx -courty estate and cotton plantation - he mimics them all and then mimics himself mimicing - WOW!! what a performer

  • Just brilliant. i LOVE this man. Drugs whatever, this is Bowie.

How can some 'idiot' as they call him, write songs like Starman and Young Americans? Life on Mars? Ziggy Stardust?

This just proves Bowie hardly needs any preparation at all, such a legend.

He is just soo free, soo cool, soo smooth.

Thank you to the person who found this, truly brilliant clip.

In Shrek or not, this is song on its own. An amazing one too.

So Im going to finish this comment by saying.....

    I LOVE YOU DAVID BOWIE!

  • who cares what he sounded like? Look at him. His hair is awesome.

  • thats worth every second!!!

  • @sparkalanks : Couldn't have said it better. This is so great. Imagine being his kid. The stuff he would have done when you were tripping out as a child.

  • Shows the technical reality of a rehearsal, I suspect he didn't need to sing the detail as they were testing how the band played together. A great insight.

  • this is AWESOME!!! hahaha

  • The piano in this version, just awesome, so magical.

  • @Lawen78 - That would be Yes' Tony Kaye supporting on keys.

  • brilliant ... just brilliant

  • @ZLUGGO Well, it IS a rehearsal, not the real thing so he doesn't have to do it right.

  • @lovethesexycookies

Yes, he has to. He ruined my day.

  • When ever i see this guy i think of labrynth

  • Horrible rendition of Changes even though it is just a rehearsal!!! Thin White Duke is prob Bowie's worst character...

  • @sirlovemehard

disagree completely! for my taste the duke is the best charcter he created. i personally dislike ziggy. really! my favourite bowie albums begin with diamond dogs and continue through scary monsters. the 2nd half of the 70s were bowies absolutely most creative and most innovative time. but tastes are so different....

  • lol what a shit bunch of studio musicians

  • Wow. Absolutely fascinating. Is it even possible to NOT look at this guy, ever? I saw the Station to Sation tour when I was 17 at The Forum in L.A. It was about the fourth or fifth show of the tour and Bowie was totally engaged, unlike when I saw him during the Diamond Dogs tour in, uh, '74, I think. He was cold as ice and coked out of his gourd. He was running on automatic and bored to death. But the S to S tour was the complete opposite and a complete blast.

  • He is great but he readily admits to "sleeping" thru the 80s . I saw him in concert in '74 during my first year in college and have loved him since!

  • Timeee isss runningg wildddd... duhduhduh...

    Strange fascination fascinating me!

  • On drugs off drugs...who cares, this is THE DAVID BOWIE...the one and only, one of the GREATEST artists EVER! Totally original in everything he has done! Anything he does he does very well, he is amazing and I love him!

  • And you are a wonderful person... :P :D

  • @mycatwearsamask plus 1 he has amazing musical talend NAD he wuz able 2 get clean compared 2 most crap white trash these days

    lol DAVID BOWIE RULES

  • @mycatwearsamask

One of? He is THE greatest artist.

  • @mycatwearsamask WOW, ya sorry he's definatly NOT the greatest artist ever. michael jackson probably is, or the Beatles, even billy joel is better. i dont even know a single one of his songs.

  • @venomchris How 'bout Beethoven or Mozart? Music didn't start 100 years ago you know?

  • @kawalmit yaa beethoven and mozart are still raking it in on itunes right. get real, like that music is still relevant

  • @kawalmit and besides theyre composers not artists u assclown

  • @venomchris LOL There is no "greatest artist ever". But there are great artists and David Bowie is without doubt one of them. And yeah, definitely better than Billy Joel. If you only know one Bowie song then more fool you. LOL You need to catch up with the rest of the world.

  • @halag okay, if u think he's great, thats fine. But not close to greatest artists, clearly u have a bias opinion anyways cuz ur probably a fan, or are gay for david bowie lol.

  • @venomchris well there goes any credibility you might have had left. What a dumb-ass comment. Clearly the "bias" is coming from your side of the fence. There are a number of great artists in the world. I don't have to be "A fan" of any of them to know what is greatness when I see it. You think I'm gay for david? LMAO Well that would be pointless being as I'm a chick. Its a shame that you are so closed-minded about different kinds of music. You're really missing out.

  • @halag no, that takes your credibility. I'm indifferent to all artists im just looking at facts and observable reality, u are a fan so youre obviously going to stand in his favour. do u see the difference? if the fact of the matter is that he's clearly not as currently recognizable or renowned as other artists in recent music history, i would acknowledge it. but he isnt. sorry.

  • @venomchris ROFLMAO. Who said I'm a "fan"? I think he's a great artist. But then I think several artists are great. I love that there is so much great talent in the world for us all to enjoy. David Bowie & others will be blissfully unaware that such sad individuals as you exist & just continue being the legends they've always been. The reality, THE FACT, is that Bowie is one of THE most reconizable and renowned artists in recent music history. Your reality filter needs some major repair work.

  • @halag ? because u think "several artists are great" is this supposed to change the obviousness that u clearly are a fan of david bowie? haha. look ive wasted too much time with this. bottom line and my Original point was that david bowie is in no way Close to The greatest group or artist "ever". Again not it my personal opinion, just in current observable reality. beatles and michael jackson are still more relevant than david bowie. in marketability, sales, fans, global recognizability etc.

  • @venomchris

well a lot of the world are idiots. SALES, fane and recognizability? Are you saying Lady Gaga and all these other more recents, selling a lot of albums are better? The beatles suck david bowies well hung and snow white tan COCK. He had way more versatility then michael Jackson and the beatles combined. Not to mention a bigger stage performer. Yes, MJ can dance, but whatever, David Bowie made his shows into actual SHOWS.

  • @halag you can try and convince urself thats he's still relevant, but i believe ive made my point. reply if u like, but im not going to be reading it.

  • @mycatwearsamask Right and this is a rehearsal. During rehearsals musicians often fool around, sometimes to save there voice before performance and sometimes just for fun. It is a rehearsal, time to experiment...

  • @mycatwearsamask me too!! :))) and all that you said is spot on!

  • lol i hate when people say ohh "its that song from shrek lol"

  • ahah, i totally agree!

  • @Nick1metalhead OMG same...

  • @Nick1metalhead it is that song from Shrek >.< lmao

  • @Nick1metalhead this song's in shrek? if it is I forget where...

  • @Nick1metalhead

yeah i sang it at school school and everyone said its from shrek.

  • shrek did not deserve such a good song

  • This was recorded 2-2-76 @ the PNE Coliseum in Vancouver. A 89 min. version with 15 songs exists but it's never been officially released (since it's just a rehearsal). Bowie scats and goofs off because it's not his voice he's worried about but the sound & light system. This rehearsal is where they smoothed out the stage show details. Also, Bowie was off coke by this point. He didn't want to start touring until he felt he was clean & this video was his 1st time on stage since going clean.

  • It certainly is a strange fascination.

You have to watch him no matter how many times you've heard or seen this song, I reckon

  • scatman bowie

  • truu

  • Anti climatic ending? HAHA! I LOVE IT!!

  • Loved this, now I see where the Bowie kids singing Changes are coming from. Check them out "Lewes New School Changes". They don't like being spat upon.

  • :D

    AWESOME

  • Hahahaha, best part!!! Most definitely!! :D

    1:00 - 1:25

    Funniest Bowie-thing ever!! :D :D

  • prupuudedeeedoingdo doo doo dun doo dun doooo

  • Very amazing video! thank you so much!

  • Funniest thing i've ever seen! :D

  • Oh, now I get where Chip-Chip-Chip&Dale song comes from :D

  • Awesome Bowie As Per Usual, The Return Of The Thin White Duke

  • I dont see what's so funny about this. It kind of sounds like the version in '74 on the "David Live" album.

  • This does not sound strange, at all to other musicians...

He's scatting...a jazz technique. It's all, really very legit if you are musician.

Kinda like a soundcheck where the singer can work on different and new ways of singing the same song.

I'm a recording artist, myself who plays all of his own instruments. You can check out my original songs by clicking on the website url located in my youtube profile channel...enjoy!

  • LOL!

  • If this is a Rehearsal, then this must be one of the funniest things I've seen Bowie done...

  • LOL... That's crake me...

  • oh god, it sounds so funny!!!

  • thin white duke tour ?

  • Dave was a half a fifth and an 8ball in.

  • thumbs up

  • best bowie song ever.you yougsters

  • omg where was this in vancouver? i wish i'd been born back then!

  • WOW! thank you so much! i wasnt even born at the time this was filmed! BOWIE IS LEGEND!

  • Thank you for uploading this

  • changes

ive taken so many deadend streets my eyes were becoming wild

ive played a game made for fools but ive played it all with style

Everytime i thought i had it made they turn and changed the rules.

So i turned myself to face me because the day was getting late i wonder if freewill is a faker i guess thats a chance i will have to take.

  • thankyou so much for posting this :D

  • Bowie experimented with music, song and performance the way Picasso experimented with various media. Artists never limit themselves to repeating one form of expression if they have anything valid to say.

  • You are right, I always thin of Bowie as the Picasso of rock.

  • This is great. And to all of you guys who think that he is making random noises don't know about the jazz technique of scatting. I wish David Bowie would scat more. It adds to the fun of the song. Great vid.

  • You are completely correct, IgorMusicNut.

But of course the untrained ear would not appreciate anything worth calling music.

David Bowie did release some jazz albums, not sure under what label or what, but I know he has.

  • its even better because he is so fucked on cocaine he doesn't even know what country he is in.

  • Thanx for posting this!!!It's so rare to see videos about "The white duke" era...

I love that Bowie as singer and as man...God, he's so fucking fascinating!!!!Some time ago I watched other 76's rehearsals when he made many mistakes in one song...at that time he used cocaine quite a lot!at that time he was frequently high...

  • WOW.

This is an awesome self-cover of this song...

BTW he really likes that 'time is running wild' line, huh? He's always preonouncing it differently....

    Thanks for posting this!!!

  • Singing out of key for fun! Might as well. Still sounded cool. Win Win~ LOVE

  • Even after 30+ years his voice still awes me =D

  • Love how he does it with a fag in his hand!

Oh the joy of bowie!!! :)

  • and just to clarify to everyone on what shawty said...it's a cigarette.

  • Comment removed

  • haha that line freaked me out in "Laughing Gnome" before my friend explained that fag meant cigarette XD

  • fantastiche le prove del Duca.

  • thanks for this rare video...love it :-)

  • Bowie....great always!

  • YEAH - change ... too be a better man ..-- lalalalalalaalll liars - wot's going through Y - looks like - a senselessly part of meat

    ## - just change it

  • Thank you , Gary...it IS a gem indeed!

Gods , what a natural diverse natural improvising artist He is - got to love the Master!

  • the master at work

  • It's obviously a soundcheck before a show, not a 'rehearsal'. This is why he is fooling around, they are just getting the sound levels set.

  • Wow, he's fabulous live!

  • Its obvious he hates this song at this moment in time. Who could blame him?

  • Ah balls, it's been taken down ¬.¬

  • He so silly in the beginning.

  • Damn, love the scatting.

  • I'll bet you do.

  • Ski bop bom bo doo bop

  • In the Fame rehearsal he makes random noises too XD David is so awesome.

"Too lazy to sing own song...will make noises instead..."

Only he can pull it off awesomely.
