When I first saw this film on TV, I stopped watching after the storm scene, because I was upset that the blonde girl had drowned. But my sister still watched it, and called me back at the end when she reappered, and I was releived. You know, I'm trying to remermber whether or not I may've been crying.

@dannster71 - Dorothy in the book was a young girl. Before casting Judy Garland in the first Wizard of Oz movie, they were going to cast Shirley Temple but she at the time was under contract by 20th Century Fox.

Well, in this time, doctor's didn't know properly how the brain worked, they were still fresh to technology.

The machine uses electric bolts to wipe out memories/thoughts stuff. The bad part was it fries your brain in the process. For an adult, the machine would basically destroy half of their brain, making them retarded. But for a 12 year old girl...well, bye bye Dorothy.
