  • Back to The Future, not just the future - if they have the stones - of the Republican Party, but of the country.

  • i LOVE BARRY GOLDWATER; MAY HE REST IN PEACE, AND MAY GOD SEND US HIS SOUL INCARNATED IN SOME OTHER GREAT MAN TO LEAD THIS NATION AWAY FROM LIBERALISM AND STUPIDITY.

    I MISS HIM SO MUCH.

  • this man puts Bill Clinton and his wife to shame! He was a very classy, respectable, smart man. What Goldwater Sr. was not alive and in his younger days to run against Obama.

  • Barry Goldwater was often criticized for being too honest, too direct. After seeing this interview, is there any one of us who doesn't pine for the kind of integrity this man represented?

  • Really a very warming interview of Goldwater, particularly when he speaks of his wife of 50 years who had passed just the year before. Really great piece. Thank you for posting.

  • Pure Honesty building up at 16:30.

  • This is a GREAT AMERICAN. The GOP needs a GOLDWATER Revolution.

  • Classic Arizona and Goldwater

  • great man.

  • one thing is true still today....the Senate is run by special interests

  • Deficit interest inflation. Too little otoo late.

ok yeah he got ww2 mentality of merica fuck yeah. we deserve to be in your country

  • But he does seem to be xenophobic of foreigners.

  • You need to read Barry Goldwater's wonderful book, "People and Places." It was published in 1966 and has dozens of photos of people from all over the world.

  • He doesnt seem that hawkish if he seems to dislike Johnson and Kissinger.

  • If only he was alive for the Iraq war...

  • He would support it

  • orly?

  • Yes really. Goldwater himself said that we cannot allow the American flag to be shot at anywhere on earth if we are to retain our respect and prestige, and that to "insist on strength is not war-mongering. It is peace-mongering".

  • Uhhh, he might support a war in Iraq, but first it would have to be a legally declared war that was declared through the means assigned a legal declaration of war via the constitution.

  • no way you fucking moron.

  • Goldwater was a strict constitutionalists. Goldwater would destroy bush for the amount of times he has spit on the constitution.

  • What Goldwater says about Johnstone at 7.37 is very intresting !

  • For some reason it has become fashionable in libertarian and Ron Paulist circles to adopt Barry Goldwater as a true conservative-while neglecting his very hawkish and assertive views on foreign policy, which was an absolutely crucial issue for him. Barry Goldwater would still, I think, identify himself with the Republican Party over any other option, and especially John McCain over the pseudo-socialist (Goldwater might have said collectivist) nanny-state antics of Barack Obama.

  • I know all this, however he represented a moderate republican party, not this far right religious party that has become all about God, Gays, and guns. Though I am a liberal it deosnt mean that I hate republicans, its just the social conservatives that I hate, and they have taken over that party, and Goldwater didnt like the influence they had. Oh and by the way Ronald Reagan Raised taxes 6 times during his presidency, and Bill Clinton cut them,, so were not all a bunch of tax raising hippies.

  • What you've said about the religious right is true. Personally I resent that evangelical Christianity has sort of taken over the Republican Party on social issues, and I agree with Goldwater that issues like gay marriage are a matter for the individual to decide and the holier-than-thou preaching and action on the subject are moronic. I especially liked Goldwater's quote regarding evangelical preacher Jerry Falwell-"I think every good Christian ought to kick Falwell right in the ass".

  • Yeah I hear you, I am a liberal, but more so on social issues, and I am not a proponent of the welfare state just like Goldwater. Plus I think there should a constitutional amendment for a balanced budget, plus it was Bush who got rid of all those budget contols that Clinton had in his Administration. This president has just ruined his party, and I as a left winger thank him for damaging the rightwing in America.

  • So Barry Goldwater would support what you call an "imperialistic foreign policy" (I would dispute that chracterization, by the way). He would probably have supported our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and he most assuredly would have advocated fighting to win once we were involved. He wouldn't hold with Ron Paul's illegitimacy nonsense or the liberal left's refusal to commit to the fight against Islamic terrorism and rogue states. After all, this was the man who talked flippantly of using nukes!

  • I think Goldwater would be ashamed of what the Republican Party has become, a bunch of right wing elitist fat cats, who have an imperialistic foreign policy. I like what this man stood for, and I am a left wing liberal

  • Hate to break it to you but Barry Goldwater was the very antithesis of a liberal. He flatly rejected collectivism in all its forms. That includes universal healthcare, an enlarged welfare state, higher taxes-basically all the essential Democratic tenets. And although he was socially libertarian, he was decidedly hawkish on foreign affairs, criticizing LBJ, not for going to war in Vietnam, but for his secretive manner and for not fighting it to win.

  • Even today, 10 years after his death Barry Goldwater's philosophy is a breath of freah air. If there were more conservatives out there like him I would be a republican, howver I remain a socially liberal, fiscally conservative Democrat.

  • i totally agree with you

  • This is the kind of politician I would vote for.

    And I'm a Democrat!

  • what would david frum know about fiscal conservatism, or true libertarianism

  • Mr. Conservative indeed. Also reminds me of the traditional conservative Robert Taft wind of the Senate also known as Mr. Republicans. The republican party was once the grand ol' party that believed in constitutional government, free markets, civil liberties, sound money and a non-interventionist foreign policy. We need to kick out the Neo-Cons ASAP to rebuild the Republican Party. Bush, Cheney, Krystal, Frum need to go.

  • You know I am 16 years old and I have only got into politics about one and a half years ago. I got into because of Barry Goldwater. He inspired and me and is my hero. God Bless Barry Goldwater.

  • I guess they didn't know at the time, that Reagan would be one of the greatest in history. And Carter installing an Islamic Extremist government in Iran is the biggest foriegn policy blunder in history!

  • Look up operation Ajax. that was the worst.

  • Barry Goldwater would kick David Frum's ass for saying that he was the ancestor of the modern liberal. Or was he still referring to "liberals" meaning what we think of as libertarians? If he thinks Goldwater would be cool with the mainstream of either party today...he's dumb as can be.

  • This made me cry.

The country is done folks. The dollar is going to crash and the people keep voting for the scum that are in office.

Don't blame Bush, don't blame Cheney, don't Blame Clinton, because the only person who deserves the blame is the one who you see in the mirror.

Vote libertarian if you do not want to see the country ruined. But the election actually never come. The president will stage terror attacks and then attack iran and never leave office.

    Sorry Americans we lose.

  • current lp candidates are a joke

  • Tis true...and sad. As Reagan said, don't abandon the party...work to make the party more conservative.

  • Oh Please.... Have you looked at the Democrats and Republican Candidates? Come On.

  • are you kidding lol

  • Ron Paul was an awful speaker and an awful candidate. He was similar to Goldwater, but he wasn't Goldwater.

  • He wasn't an awful speaker to those that already believe his philosophy, he couldn't inspire the whole of the party like Goldwater did though.

  • Goldwater didn't have Fascism in the party the way Paul does now. His time and Paul's time now are very different.

The banks and corporations are more in control now than they ever were.

  • I actually agree. As a candidate, as a speaker, yes he wasn't up to par. But as a messenger he fared well.

Maybe running for president wasn't the best use of resources, but the end result had meaningful results

  • With McCain as the Republican nominee, Goldwater must be rolling in his grave. RIP Conservatism.

  • Its so true.

Too bad Ron Paul didn't make it.

The United States is done forever.

  • Ron Paul was the only true Republican in the race, and he got laughed off stage.

  • I agree, but I will say that Ron Paul was the only true american in the race, democratic or republican. The rest of them are communists. They are going to nuke the USA and declare martial law, just like they did 9/11.

Much love my fellow citizen. We got a fight ahead of us. And its against our own government. Scary.

  • Our government didn't do 9/11.

    Stupid.

  • You haven't examined the evidence. You are the ignorant one.

  • How do you know? That's an assumption. But of course, that's to be expected from Troofers like you.

Shut up. Or, as assholes like you need to say, "Wake up."

  • NO. ALL the evidence...ALL of it, points to Al Qaeda, albeit we've enticed them with our actions in their world. Intervention and occupation are the only things proven to create suicide terrorism, and to deny that is denying a legitimate problem. So fuck you, you fucking fuck.

  • Laughed at by who? Only Faux.

  • So much for hope and the relovealution?

  • Why do you think Goldwater would have such strong objections to McCain? I thought they have a lot in common (e.g., amazing military records, disdane for the religious right, and conservative views on spending and entitlements).

  • What a contrast between feel-good Obama, jello Mrs. Clinton, "Maverick" MCain, and many faced Huckster.

  • we need more politicians like goldwater, he always put the constitution first

  • This was a GREAT man.....

  • imagine a politician today saying they didn't run for an election of ANYTHING because he "didn't like the other candidate..." that blows my mind.

  • A great point was made in this video. "America wasnt ready for Berry Goldwater in 1964." I love Ron Paul, I'm voting for him. I know his election is a long shot, but even if he doesnt win he's done this nation and the republican party a great service by getting true conservitive issues back on the table. Whether he wins or loses he's inspired countless americans, many of whom, Im sure, will one day enter the political spectrum. Teach your friends family and acquaintences about true consevitism

  • Goldwater today would be more moderate than most of the mainline GOP, but in fiscal issues Goldwater would of been against Homeland security, FISA, and No Child Left Behind. At the same time Goldwater would of supported a more aggresive policy against Iraq, Iran, Afgainstan.

  • I disagree on the last point. Goldwater certainly wasnt for nation building.

  • i dont think goldwater would have been for iraq, he would have opposed the resolution authorizing the use of force, because the constitution says congress shall declare war.

  • goldwater was quite a hawk back in the 60's. he was an EXTREME anti-communist. he was big on rolling back the soviets as opposed to just containing them. he was a really impressive guy. we need more like him.

  • After reading and studying about Barry Goldwater recently, I now count him as one of my favorite and greatest political heroes.

  • Must be Ron Paul.

  • america would a mistake voting for johnson in '64

  • Yes because LBJ made such great decisions on behalf of this nation, like Vietnam and teh phony war on poverty...

  • Barry Goldwater, with Ronald Reagan, was the greatest conservative of our time. We need another Barry Goldwater in Washington, D.C.

  • We have a conservative in the mold of Goldwater and Reagan, Congressman Ron Paul.

    You Tube:

"Barry Goldwater, Jr. speaks about Congressman Ron Paul" v=tPoFXl97wv4

"Ronald Reagan Sounds like Ron Paul" v=STLR6tFP4S4

  • Yes, we do. And I agree with gsuitter that we have one who embodies the spirit of Goldwater in Congressman Ron Paul. The trouble is that the "conservative movement" is now inherently statist and overly religious. As Barry himself said, "the religious right scares the hell out of me."

  • I feel Goldwdater's sentiments on Johnson. He and Nixon are 2 of the biggest asshole presidents we've ever had. He fucking lied about the Gulf of Tonkin situation just to get us into war! And the fucking Congress bought it hook, line and sinker with no evidence and got us in that mistake. It was a mistake to let LBJ of all people run this country! Thank God he didn't run for reelection in 68, although Nixon's election didn't really make things any better.

  • Nixon was a good president. He was more of a moderate but still is one of my favs.

  • Barry Goldwater is a true hero of mine
