oh yeah, she kept everyone in a trance all night then sat down and taught me this song after the show. I still sing it today -- not like she did, that's fer shur. What a powerhouse.
Cass could've gone on to do more music pretty much in the jazz field if she wanted to during her time alive but had she lived longer she would've gone in that field of music and thee is no doubt she would sell millions of albums worldwide. It's been 36 years since she passed but her voice will live on through her music that she gave us.
This song I sang once on stage in College with my band Willow...never thought I'd find this original version in youtube! THANK YOU for posting...I still in awe...and moved to tears even now.
Compare the attitude of this song and the attitude of Wild Women. Wild women are independent and they don't care what people think of them. I always identified with Wild Women.
This recording was done in an era where good girls never had sex. Do it once and you were a slut for the rest of your life. Thank god things have changed.
I'm looking for a recording of "Jug Band Music" by the Mugwumps. It was released as a single in the late 60s. I lost my copy.
this song is beautiful, haunting, and chilling. i would have given anything to see cass elliot live, or to have met her. her voice was so strong and rough yet perfect. thanks so much for this, as a young fan i'm so glad her memory and music can live on!
Wow, this video is MOODY! Once again, we can see that these are the best videos combining the images and sounds we have left from CE's work. I speak for all of us when I say thank goodness you are making these short films.

When I was a young girl used to seek pleasure
when I was a young girl used to drink ale
aou of the alehouse and down to a jailhouse
right out of the barroom, down to my grave
had he but told me before he shamed me
had he but told me about it in time
I could've had potions and salts of white mercury
but now I'm a young girl cut down in my prime

get six young gamblers to carry my coffin
get me six young riders to sing me a song
but bunches of roses all ove my coffin
roses to muffle the clods as they fall
When I was a young girl, I used to seek pleasure
When I was a young girl, I used to drink ale
Out of the alehouse and down, down to the jailhouse
My body is ruined, they've left me to die

Perfection.
Wish Cass had made more folk and blues records. She needed no more than a good song and one good pianist or guitarist and it would turn out great.
thanks for posting!
