I can see the 'stereo mix' as an input device, I can select it in audacity. But no sound comes through it, regardless of volume settings. I have a Dell laptop, but I can't find any drivers for my motherboard (08vfx1). Since it is a laptop, the sound card is integrated. Does this mean it just can't work for me?

I figured it out!! You were right about the Stereo Mix thing. However, mine was hidden which is why it wouldn't show up at first! Using Audacity makes it so easy! I can record, edit and send it out as an Mp3!

I just followed the latter part. Using Win 7 to enable show disabled devices for the stereo mix - followed your instructions. then i restarted audacity and chose the stereo mix like you said. worked fine after a few tries for the laptop to get it together. It worked in Sound Forge 10 too after restarting the program a few times. Thank you so much. I may give you a video response just to run my first screen recording.

Ok, so i went to pc wizard and it says i have an INTEL audio device. Laughter. I thought intel only made graph cards and motherboards. Which was true, cuz after spending 10 minutes on their site, i didn't find the product i supposedly have. And then i went to control panel and to hardware manutention or whatever it's called. And it says "Realtek HD audio" or something like that. Hmm... You're lucky it works with your sound card...

My problem is, I do have stereo mix, it's enabled and all of that good jazz, but when I try to record some audio, like from a game, all I get is static. My sound card is SigmaTel audio. I know that sigmaTel and stereo mix have problems, but why would stereo mix be an option, if my sound card doesn't even support it?
