  • Fox is a joke. They wouldn't even let the poor lady talk without interrupting. The simple fact is that the income of the wealthiest 1%(of which YOU are not a part) have sky rocketed, their tax rate on the other hand is at its lowest point in 90 years. The free ride for the rich is over. TAX THE RICH

  • @MaudsPas Lol clearly you are a liberal as you do not know your facts. The tax is now the highest in history, which btw so is corporate tax which is also the highest in the world. The top 1% of Americans (earning incomes of more than 390k) are paying 40% of all income taxes in America. The bottom 50% of Americans which I'm sure is what you are, which also are filed with your welfare recipients are only paying 2.9% of all income taxes.

  • @TheAnimeStop Wrong on all the facts. The top 1% pay 25% of ALL taxes. Income tax is just one form of tax which the rich pay a higher percent of, that is why you are TOLD to focus on it instead of other forms of taxation. The 1% also own 42% of all wealth.

Taxes are at 60 year lows. America's corporations pay the second lowest corporate taxes in the developed world as % of GDP. The 35% corporate tax rate doesn't mean anything with all the deductions.

  • Allen West is a moron. Saying he wants to end medicare while representing Florida... Not smart. Say goodbye retard.

  • Even a flat tax would increase rates on corporations because currently most pay 0%

  • @ej9832 - you're ingnorant! The US don't have a problem with revenues it has a problem with the debt that's growing every minute. Typical lib loser always want to punish the have's because you don't have. Government will always fail because they don't know how to create jobs. Small business like myself can do that and I'm doing it without the government's help. What are you doing to create jobs?

  • @papaoalii What am I doing to create jobs? Pushing for a budget that will stimulate the economy and job growth? Nobody is punishing the rich, just asking for a fair share. And if you really believe your second point there then maybe you should look up the facts because 2/3 of corporations don't pay any taxes at all

  • Why should we not tax them at all when other countries are taxing them at high rates? Only other countries should be allowed to collect tax on US corporations, while our middle class gets eaten alive?

  • The number you have for Exxons taxes is taxes they paid to OTHER countries. Not only did they not pay ANY taxes, they got a tax CREDIT. EXXON MADE A PROFIT ON TAXES IN THE US YOU FUCKING IDIOT.

  • Yes I know the government has borrowed the money for SS. All the more reason to repay it instead of STEALING IT TO GIVE TAX BREAKS TO RICH CORPORATIONS WHILE THE POOR, DISABLED, AND EDERLY PAY FOR IT. Because you don't want to raise revenue, ONLY look at spending.

  • @tihannorubato - it's common sense that you can't cut spending without cutting taxes. I didn't agree with Bush and the Republicans on how they grew the government during his eight years in office. The left always want to punish the rich (define rich) in the name of fairness. Life is not fair! We have people that create jobs and we have those that are looking for a handout (more than 50% of Americans don't pay taxes).

  • O@papaoalii Read the Peoples Budget you fool. Spending decreases, revenue increases, and TAX INCREASES.

  • @papaoalii You are wrong when you say "more than 50% of Americans don't pay taxes". In fact, the poor actually they pay a greater percentage of their overall income than the rich do.

  • iam not the brightest bulb in the shop, but men this Congresswoman Edwards is even dimmer than me,with alot of words nothing said and btw how about some more tax for..as example GE ? they didnt payed any tax in 2010 while making billions in profit, how about fanny and freddy? but wait those arent Oil Company's and dont fit in your rethoric / ideology

  • @Hoschi0913 - yeah GE didn't pay because they have a bevy of tax attorneys figuring out how not to pay tax. Do you think its any different for 2% most wealthy? Answer: no.

  • @tihannorubato

of course its not different for them, but why bashing some companys ( like Oil ) to pay more knowing that others ( like GE ) pay nothing? seem like a nice double standard to me

  • @Hoschi0913 : Difference would be that Oil is specifically subsidized even though oil companies have easily been the most profitable companies in the last 10 years. But yes, it the subsidies were removed, they'd probably find loopholes around it.

  • @tihannorubato

so is GE and couple other company with specific subsidies, like those "Green Job" subsidies.not to be mistaken for incentives which yes the Oil companys get too,but iam going to research if and what subsidize the Oil companys really get......

  • ......ok found something (according to CNN)

    1.Domestic manufacturing tax deduction:

This is a tax deduction given to every manufacturer in the US.

    2.Percentage depletion allowance:

Any industry can write down a portion of the cost of its capital equipment as part of the cost of doing business. All companies get it, not just oil companies.

    3.Foreign tax credit:

Companies get credit for taxes they pay to other countries. All companies get this "subsidy," not just oil companies.....

  • ....and there is one more

    4.Intangible drilling costs:

According to CNN, "[a]ll industries get to write off the costs of doing business, but they must take it over the life of an investment. The oil industry gets to take the drilling credit in the first year." Among these four tax "breaks," this one was the only one that treated oil companies differently.

The above tax "breaks" explain how much tax revenue is not collected from all oil companies. How much is collected?......

  • .....as example...

Exxon recently released its first quarter results for 2011. The number grabbing the headlines was Exxon's profit: $10.65 billion in a single quarter. The number not given quite as much exposure was the taxes it paid in that same quarter: $8 billion, or 42% of income before taxes

  • .....havent heard from GE that they payed 42% of all their income in Taxes and they get the same "subsidies" as Exxon for example,so once again.seem to me there is a nice double standard

  • So do you know what oil company does get US subsidies, and not just tax "breaks"? Petrobras, Brazil's state-owned oil company.

The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro.

  • @Hoschi0913 Can you do simple math? 8 is not 42% of 10.65.

  • Comment removed

  • @Hoschi0913 OK, my bad your math there was sound, but your argument still is not. None of that money went to the IRS. You aren't being clear about that. You are making it sound like they payed those taxes to us. In fact they got a tax credit from us.

  • @EJ9832

you are very young, let me explain a little to you, first the IRS Code has over 1 million words and is so complexe that even those guys that wrote it do not know how it applys today,2.regardless of any tax break, however huge or small, the federal gov't has to make those laws uniform, which means they apply to all companys equaly,no exception, otherwise it is unconstitutional, which means whatever tax break the oil companys get,all other company gets the same tax breaks

  • how those taxes gets collected from such "big" companys, like Exxon or GE ,i do not know ,i dont work in accounting nor for such big company

  • @Hoschi0913 You don't know anything about taxes you fool. Nobody is expecting you to while you are still in high scool, but don't blab your mouth about something you don't know the facts.

  • @3ricjay

ok iam a fool then, why dont you enlighten me then please, since you seem to know it all

  • @Hoschi0913 The way they collect those taxes is they mostly don't. Most corporations don't pay any taxes in the US. FACT. LOOK IT UP.

  • @EJ9832

oh really? thats something new, whats your source so i can check it out?

  • @Hoschi0913 money.cnn.com/2008/08/12/news/economy/corporate_taxes/

  • @3ricjay

interesting artikel,i admit ,still the same Tax Code applys to them as it does apply to lets say me or us,if we would know those loophole they are using,we wouldnt pay that much or any taxes at all either,so case and point,if the gov't bitches about companys not paying their taxes!! well they are the ones and only once that can change it,right? yet they dont do jack about it and why?cuz they would "hurt" their lobbiest too and wouldnt get reelected,so dont blame the company's....

  • ....i got something for you too, check this out...

    cnsnews.com/news/article/top-3-us-oil-companies-paid-428-billion

  • @Hoschi0913 Hahhahaha. That's a good one. Except that's not true at all. The way companies are taxed is different than income tax. And that article you posted is stupid. We didn't get a dime of that tax money. The taxes Exxon paid is 100% foreign taxes. They are paying foreign governments a lot, but nothing to the US.

  • @3ricjay

so what you saying is those guys that wrote this artikel on cnsnews do lie? and the only legit one is yours from cnn? do i see that correct? anyhow, since exxon is a US based company and does business here in the USA,i really doubt that all their taxes they payed is foreign nature, you have any prove of that at all?i really would like to see that and i bet the IRS too

  • @Hoschi0913 They pay taxes some times, but never the mandated corporate rate of 35%. In 2009 they payed nothing, and actually got a tax rebate.

  • @Hoschi0913 american progress dot org . search for exxon up top and read exxon dodges tax man.

  • @3ricjay

thats true i agree they dont pay the corporate rate of 35%,they payed 42% and btw instead of listen to Goerge Soros (Communist) sponsored people ,like center for american progress, perhaps you should look into Washington,Jefferson,Adams etc, those people did build a nation, unlike Soros who just happen to love to bring them down

  • @Hoschi0913 ? Try making an argument instead of lying. Exxon's average US tax payment since 2008 has been 17%

  • @3ricjay

oh i did lie?where?i didnt wrote those artikels! and where is your argument?claiming that exxon didnt pay any taxes or that the taxes they payed are all foreign natur or payed to foreign countrys, without any prove of it,isnt an argument, all it is is a false statement, you could say telling the untruth.i might be a fool as you say,but believing things from a men (Soros and alike) that made millions suffer by crushing their currency(UK) just for the fun of it,is rather foolish in itself

  • @Hoschi0913 We are talking about US income tax here, not foreign and you keep claiming they are paying 42%. Not true, you are lying by continuing to claim this after I have corrected you.

DUDE STOP CLAIMING WE ARE BLAMING THE COMPANIES. WE ARE NOT. Of course it wouldn't make sense to blame the company, they are only trying to maximize profit and are required to do that in any way they can. So they get away with what we allow them to. We are blaming the law.

  • @Hoschi0913 That is the whole point of what donna edwards is saying. She is blaming the fact that we are ALLOWING these companies to do this. The blame is on the law. That is what needs to change.

  • @EJ9832

dont know which clip you are watching ,but all i hear out of her mouth is raise taxes raise taxes and they get tax breaks, first of all ,it is NOT the gov't money, they didnt do jack to earn it ,the companys or the top 5% earners did do something to earn it,second for how many (i know thats a little beyond your exsisten bare with me) decades the reps or dems did try to change the tax code?nothing ever happens, instead it gets more complexe(as stated b4) with more loopwhole all the time....

  • Comment removed

  • @Hoschi0913 that's because that is all they were discussing, how to raise revenue. Why don't you try reading the actual budget before blabbing you dumbass. And the government did do a lot to provide the opportunity for these corporations to prosper. If you want to argue the gov didn't earn it you might as well be for 0% corp tax rate. What you don't realize is that is the effective rate for most corps, and many get paid tax rebates just to operate here.

  • @EJ9832

you can call me any name there is in the book, doesnt bother me a bit, besides you run in circles(in case you dont notice) and here is why,you bitch that the top earners / corps dont pay enough taxes and they should pay more, and blame it on the laws on the book, yet you (and the ppl you sopport) fail miserably in making the changes, its just easier to bitch and blame everything on someone/something else, instead of taken responsibillity,no iam not for 0% in any tax,but iam for a fair tax....

  • ....which means everyone (poor or rich) pays a certain % (like lets say 10%) on whatever they make in tax,so its up to you how much tax you pay,you earn 1 000 000 you pay 100 000,you make 10 000 you pay 1000,so all pay the same tax %,no more bitching about someone doesnt pay their "fair' share

  • and no gimmicks like rebates or tax breaks or deduction, everyone pays the same, only problem is the govt that just doesnt stop spending like a drunken sailer (reps or dems doesnt matter)

  • @Hoschi0913 cbsnews.com/stories/2008/08/12/national/main4342535.shtml

"Two-thirds of U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes between 1998 and 2005, according to a new report from Congress."

  • @EJ9832

you forgot to mention the very next sentence in this artikel.....

The study by the Government Accountability Office, expected to be released Tuesday, said about 68 percent of foreign companies doing business in the U.S. avoided corporate taxes over the same period....

  • ...and

The GAO study did not investigate why corporations weren't paying federal income taxes or corporate taxes and it did not identify any corporations by name. It said companies may escape paying such taxes due to operating losses or because of tax credits.

so once again, please tell the entire story/truth not just what you like

  • @Hoschi0913 Just because they didn't name them, doesn't mean the study isn't true. Here is just a few examples for you. Top 10 worst income tax avoiders: sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/news/?id=67562604-8280-4d56-8af4-a27f59d70de5

  • @Hoschi0913 What is your point? We need to tax them too.

  • @Hoschi0913 You are a retard. Learn to form a sentence.

  • @Hoschi0913 The only reason they have failed to make the change yet is because ignorant people you. You're arguing that we shouldn't make the proper change because we have failed to do it in the past. All the more reason to change it. It's fuckheads like you spreading misinformation that keeps the law the way it is.

  • @EJ9832

where did i point out not to make such changes? iam for a equal fair tax that everyone pays, und nebenbei versuch doch mal in meiner sprache einen satz zusammen zu bekommen, achja ich glaube ich sagte schon das du mich nennen kannst was du willst,so now that i did rain some of my native language on you, might shows that english isnt my first language and since you did understand whatever i said, guess iam not that much of a retard as you .........think iam

  • @Hoschi0913 There is no such thing as an equal flat tax. A flat tax inherently favors the rich.

  • @EJ9832

only if you think that the rich do not "deserve" the money they worked for and who decides what rich means? and who is rich ? you ? or your communist friends from the center for american progress ?

  • @Hoschi0913 You could argue everyone worked for and deserved their money, so why should they have to pay it in taxes. You are a dumbass. I don't know, why don't you define rich since you are the one using that term, not me.

  • @EJ9832

you cant spin it on me pal,you said:"A flat tax inherently favors the rich." so you must have some sort of sence, who the "rich"are, right? so who decides wich one is rich and who isnt? ,anyhow let me take a wild guess...you would (or may do) vote democrate ,am i right?now you will ask what has it to do with all of it,good question,anwer....as soon as you run out of arguments or be proven wrong or incorrect, you "switch" over to name calling, personaly i find it funny.....cya

  • @Hoschi0913 You are so dumb. I wasn't trying to define any group of people as the rich. You could call rich, the top 1%, or 2%, or 35%, or 50%, or 79%. It doesn't affect my point that a flat tax will always favor the top group versus the people below that.

  • I say you are dumb because of your continual misunderstanding of my points. I have plenty of arguments that you haven't responded to yet. If you actually want to argue against my point, then you better get started trying to figure out how a flat tax would favor the poor. Because that's all I said. A flat tax favors the wealthier(not the "wealthiest" or the some arbitrary group the "rich") more than the poor. Wealthier. Meaning it doesn't matter where you draw the line. Poor feel the burden more.

  • @EJ9832

LOL you are so freakin funny,so iam dumb because i dont see it your way, that explains alot....lol,but wait...you have a computer (obviously) and the homeless guy in your town doesnt,so that makes you rich, you should pay more taxes ,you can affort it,you are wealthier than him and it wouldnt be a burden on you anyways since you have more than others, yep makes sence you need to pay more taxes

  • @Hoschi0913 That's why I do pay more taxes than a homeless guy. Just the thought of taxing the homeless is absurd. It's also not just an opinion, it is a fact that a flat tax favors people with more money.

  • @EJ9832

you dont understand, you need to pay more on top of what you already pay,you are rich you can easierly affort it

  • @Hoschi0913 You don't understand. She is talking about making the tax rate proportionate to your income. Right now the top already pay less as a percentage. In other words, your argument would only make sense if I was already paying a lower rate than a homeless guy.

  • @EJ9832

i dont care about your current rate,i dont care if it is lower or higher than the homeless guy or anyone else, you have more than others ,that means you are rich, and rich guys (according to your own philosophy) need to pay more taxes on top of what they pay already, now why you try to chicken out now ? pay more taxes ,you are rich

  • @Hoschi0913 Are you crazy? You are arguing against a straw man.

  • @Hoschi0913 Nobody is even blaming the companies.

  • @EJ9832

if nobody blames companys, how come Obama and you are bitching that those comapnys (like exxon) dont pay their taxes?make up your mind boy

  • Allen West backed up what he said with facts (do your research) and the lady had nothing to offer. West for President 2012! We can't afford four more of B.O.

  • @papaoalii - he cites the wall street journal....how is that research beyond reading a conservative paper and finding what you like and what supports your argument. That's hardly objective research.

  • You realize that 99% of the nation LAUGHS at Allen West, don't you? He's fundamentally clownish.

  • LOWER TAXES ! Government dont create jobs ! The people cover most of it !

  • This lady has all her facts wrong. Completely insane

  • Who is the funnier clown, Krusty or Allen West ?

  • @beesleeper

    You.

  • @xlerosx I would prefer to work with a flat tax as well. 10% consumption tax across the board. Then those that are rich and buy lots of stuff would be paying plenty in at that point. Even the illegals making cash under the table will be paying taxes at that point. That is the fairest way.

  • @Tillman40 I hope that was sarcasm.

  • @xlerosx look maybe you missed the point. I don't support D or R. I support the normal average american. If these 1% are at the top paying the same percentage in taxes that is unfair to me and everyone else in my tax bracket. The percentage should be judged by income, and continue to rise no matter what the number is. IE If I make 80K and I get taxed 24 or 25% then a person making a million should be taxed appropriatly. That is if you work within this system.

  • Its amazing..we are borrowing $4B a day! Wake up people...we are $14 trillion in debt....everything has to be cut...or in 10 years we will lose our nation...

  • haha

Even the Announcer is like "Wait. That is not true."

  • She is not supporting ANYTHING!

    Blind obedience warms my heart.

Flat tax would solve all this.

  • Wow! She has no clue what she's talking about at all! She's well spoken, but doesn't have much going on upstairs.

  • @HappinessFaerie Really? She just destroyed west, who tries to falsely claims progressives don't have a plan. She explained the plan, did you not get it? Or do you really think we need to lower the corporate tax rate further? Even FOX is admitting that the bush tax cuts led to a recession. That is beyond moronic and meets the definition of retarded.

  • @EJ9832 What were you watching? Obviously, not this video. Tax cuts don't lead to a recession - no matter who implements them. They lead to a better economy because people have more money in their pockets to spend. Our corporate tax rate is one of the highest in the world - which is why so many American companies go to other countries. Paying higher taxes just to operate means you have less money to pay your employees and less money to invest in research. Do some actual research of your own.

  • @HappinessFaerie Actually tax cuts for corporations means you are putting a higher burden on the budget so that now these republicans want to balance the budget on the backs of working americans through ss/med. WHAT THEY ARE PROPOSING IS PRECISELY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU JUST SAID. It will TAKE AWAY money from people, not give them spending money! Do you really believe corporations don't have enough money to pay employees of invest? 2010 was the most profitable year ever for US corporations.

  • @EJ9832 They need to cut spending. They do not need to raise taxes. Also, the government has been stealing money from medicare/ss for many years because they can't control their spending.

  • So you think we need to extend bush tax cuts, cuts just always improve the economy? And at the same time throw disabled and elderly people out on the street because they no longer can meet their cost of living expenses due to reductions in social security and medicare benefits?

    *************NEWSFLASH**************

MOST corporations are actually not paying any taxes at all!

    *************NEWSFLASH**************

So you are suggesting to lower the rate BELOW ZERO for the rest of the companies

  • (Cont) I understand the thinking behind trickle down economics, but it hasn't worked as planned. Infact they keep getting richer while the rest of us have stalled out. Are we goign to keep supporting this? Don't get me started on Patent Protection. For all you sleepers out there, this is how big business inhibits progress for small business, entrepeneurs, inventors, and takes all the money for it. Check out some of the patents out there, and who owns most of them. Wake up.

  • @MothyBalz0169 example of trickle down economics...a worker at McDonalds using a cell phone...when you can use discretionary income to make a discretionary call...you have seen trickle down economics..

  • (Cont) It is ridiculous what these people do in the name of stimulating jobs. She said the smartest thing, "I want to go back to Reagen tax rates!" Hell the republicans loves Raegan so much why can't we go back to that tax rate? I think it should be scaled accrodingly. If I get taxed 24 or 25% while these people make millions and billions more than I, then I find that absolutely ridiculous. They should pay a fair price according to income like WE ALL DO.

  • WOW does anyone really want to go along with that Republican budget plan? I am not referring to the Medicare deal, I'm talking about the lower taxes on top earners to 25%, more patent protection, etc?? Why in the hell would we allow those at the top to keep MORE money? I support West in a lot of what he says, but he is dead wrong on this, and the democrat (i hate to say it) is correct. If you don't believe me watch the Documentary One Percent.

  • @MothyBalz0169

Why should they get to keep there money?!

    Why should you?

  • Democrats can't defend there stance. I may actually feel sorry for them this time. They are only relying on semantics and false statements. They have no plan to avoid the demise of Medicare, or she would have given it. West has on his side a true plan to deal with medicare HAVING to change. No one need to WANT it to change, it will change, in either going away, or being fixed. Democrats hold a losing hand on this issue and really think just rhetoric is going to work, it is a bluff.

  • @kd5gua *their stance

  • @kd5gua Rhetoric? Are you deaf? Immediately after being accused of not having a plan, she gave the plan. Investing in preventative care. She also said: raise taxes on the wealthy, estate tax, tax capital gains dividends as ordinary income, and end tax subsidies for oil in gas companies. That's 1 decrease in spending, and 4 sources of revenue increases. How is that not a plan?

  • why didnt know why of 8 years of bush . Bush never reformed medicare , social security and the usa healthcare system. Where was the republicans in 2002 to 2008 to reforms these programs when they run the senate and congress

  • @steviea005, good point. Both parties are at fault on this. It was just that this was a Democrat trying to act like they had a plan, but again, good point.
