In Half-Life:Opposing Force, this song plays when you are entering a long pitch dark cave full of very powerful aliens. And, boy, THAT is what I call frightening.
Generally speaking, playing HL in the dark is among the most thrilling things I know.

Does anyone know when this song plays in half-life 1? I played it up to when you are beginning to invade the manufacturing line in XEN but I didn't have audio. I need to know.... I am so addicted to this song, I first heard it on the demo for HL2-Chap2. I had to know where it was on HL-1.
@MrGoboka It was during the chapter Questionable Ethics, when you turn on the laser and destroy the wall. You have to play with your cd inside to hear music.
@ilijad Oh yeah, remember, When Peter switched on the surgical machine. When I played the game on my dad's old Monorail 98, I used to spin around in the machine until it ended, then turn it off... It was great, wish I could find the disc again, it would be fun :)
When I first played Half Life it was a pirated version, so the music was stripped out to make the file size smaller, and personally I loved the desolate atmosphere it created...
@Asacon337 This song was used in the "PREVIOUSLY ON HALF LIFE" trailer for HL2: Ep 2, where it showed what happened in Ep 1. Although, this song is amazing, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was used somewhere else, too.

Halo was revlotionary mostly for consoles which hadn't seen anything like that before, yet the PC had seen it all already long before Halo. By no means it is a bad game, sales simply failed for PC, becouse nobody really plays it anymore(like it was before)...
@MisterAAnderson True and like I said, Halo revolutionized console FPS gaming and Halo 2 was the first really succesfull and popular online game on consoles...and ofcourse it didnt sell that well on PC because the game was ported to PC 2 years later, plus the contol scheme was really designed for the controller of Xbox.
Anyways even on PC I can't remember too many games before 2001 and Halo that had that "you can carry only 2 weapons" idea for example and another major thing in Halo was co-op.
Ofcourse today co-op is nothing special, but back then it really was, especially with FPS games...Halo was the first game I played with my friends, and man they loved with...I remember how we used to play the best levels "Halo", "The Silent Cartographer " and "Assault on the Control Room" over and over again...and I still think those are among the best level-designing of all FPS.
The level design was nearly flawless, and Valve managed to create the game so that Black Mesa felt like one huge complex and level, not seperate levels like in all FPS games before Half-Life. The enemies were lot more interesting and even scary than in other FPS games and altough many might not see it, but Half-Life is the first FPS game that I think has real storyline in it. And the overall atmosphere in the game was just something that no other FPS game had managed to done before.
This soundtrack on Half-Life was played on the start of Apprehension (only in Half-Life: Source) this music was played when you picked up the Gauss Gun simply known as the Tau Cannon and in Half-Life 2 it was played on the chapter Sandtraps when dropships attack the lighthouse point. This was also the music during the recap of Episode One in Episode Two.
No game will make me feel the way I felt the first time I went through Half-Life when I was a kid, had a more memorable feeling than my first time having sex.
@OMEGAxWARRIOR No it was at the place where the train falls into the water remember? This track is even at Half Life 2 when you are chased by a helicopter.
I remember when i was 6-7 years old and dad came home from work with this game "we got this game from a friend of mine, he said it was a boring science game so we could have it". Then we started playing and it surely looked like a science game. Later we get a crowbar and we're like "what to do with this?" then we met the first zombie and found out one of the functions for the crowbar. The game just kept on shocking. My dad sure aint no gamer but even he has finished it many times. Great game
@KawasakiRider91 I remember playing this in 1998 when it was first released, I thought it was a stupid science game. But when i picked up the crowbar... I was like um... Whats the point of a CROWBAR? I saw the first headcrab on the scientist. I killed it. And then im like OHHHH! It kills things! Than i encountered the 2 zombies.I kept on going. The first gun i got was the pistol. I was like SWEET... A GUN! >:D

@sauroner112 You're absolutely right, I love both Half-Life and Halo. I like Half-Life better, because I played it with all HL games before I played Halo, and I only played Halo 1. But I'll say it again, both are fantastic games.
@butters1984 Right you are! Halo: Combat Evolved is always going to have a special place in my heart, because it introduced me to console gaming, and showed that FPS games can really work on consoles too. You PC gamers may think what you will, but there is no denying that Halo is one milestone of FPS gaming, just like Half-Life is.
But I too rank Half-Life little bit higher, because it was such a HUGE step from other FPS games, like Doom, Quake and Duke Nukem 3D.

@TacticalPickle bah, both Half-Life and Halo are great....Half-Life does offer better singleplayer experience true, but I've had endless fun playing Halo in Co-op, multiplayer and firefight with my friends.

@sauroner112 I know not many guys like both. I know I like both, but Halo I'm less frantic about. My username is just something sort of original, 'cos I liked it at the time.

@sauroner112 You're absolutely right, I love both Half-Life and Halo. I like Half-Life better, because I played it with all HL games before I played Halo, and I only played Halo 1. But I'll say it again, both are fantastic games.

@butters1984 Right you are! Halo: Combat Evolved is always going to have a special place in my heart, because it introduced me to console gaming, and showed that FPS games can really work on consoles too. You PC gamers may think what you will, but there is no denying that Halo is one milestone of FPS gaming, just like Half-Life is.
But I too rank Half-Life little bit higher, because it was such a HUGE step from other FPS games, like Doom, Quake and Duke Nukem 3D.

@butters1984 But! Halo has the better music out of these 2 series, when I played Half-Life I couldn't even notice the background music.
For the record, compare this song to "Halo 2 Vol.1 - Peril".

@butters1984 ODST has awesome (gritty) music as well, and it's hard to not love the main menu song of Reach.
Agree on that, HL is better without music.

@TacticalPickle bah, both Half-Life and Halo are great....Half-Life does offer better singleplayer experience true, but I've had endless fun playing Halo in Co-op, multiplayer and firefight with my friends.
