  • I recently listened to several isolated bass tracks of Who songs, by John Entwistle. God, it is absolutely awesome.

  • yikes....man I miss good rock'n roll talent.

vocals, writing, tourmanship, sound quality, And simply talent on the insturment.

  • Looks like Ringo's son got the short end of the stick and got his looks from Ringo.

  • men pete is ball and olf...but....HE STILL FUCKING ROCKINGG!!!!

  • Shut up Roger, let The Ox sing alone !

  • Dedicated to his then-wife, Allison, I believe. Great song, John.

  • I remember reading a story that said as all hell brokr loose on stage around him,John stood and kept it all together for the sake of his musical pride.

  • Is dificult understand this song with out Keith Moon however is good live version

  • If you go to pick up a blind date at her apartment, and this song is blaring from an old Victrola on a continuous loop. Don't walk ... run away!

  • age is just another number for the who

  • john has the coolest looking bass guitars :D

  • I know Entwistle is currently in God mode, but look at Pete, HE"S ON FUCKING FIRE!!!

  • maureen starkey's boy on drum's

  • In times every bassman had a sound with no brilliance at all, The Ox showed me how a bass should sound like. I am now 34 years on stage - and I was right making Ox my great influence. I love his sound hammering with the fingers of his right hand - and I own two Buzzard - basses, a Thunderbird and my own "Frankenbass" to have a sound like he had - with slightly smaller setup.

  • Best. Rock bassist. Ever.

  • One of their best songs, never got the hype it deserves. Also one of the best bands ever, so much talent on one stage. Their music keeps getting better, how many other bands can say that?

  • the who is my religion and mr. john entwistle is my god

  • AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

  • O.K. Who were the 2 assholes who dislked this...speak up

  • The best bass player that ever walked the earth.

  • @chrisput1024 Amen.

  • FUCKIN HELL!!! i get goosebumps everytime i listen to this... pure WHO raw power, best band ever...

  • most people listen to music to hear the guitar or vocals....but when you listen to the Who NEVER forget the bass and drums!

  • John Entwisle at clean hand yeeeeah!!!!!Thanks a lot !!!

  • its such a shame entwhistle never got to record again...

  • Daltry is entirely unnecessary here...

  • @stillspooky he makes the song sound like shit on the vocal parts

  • World's Greatest Rock Band. Rolling Stones who?

  • Rolling Stones? ha!

  • @DarkMewtwo0513

The Rolling Stones are a damn good band.

  • all I did was have a bit too much to drink

and I picked the wrong precinct !

  • Entwistle genio del bajo, temazo de los who

  • The best bassist ever to have walked this earth. RIP John Entwistle.

  • that isnt a bass when you put it in the hands of john entwistle...its a friking guitar!

  • @ultramagnus58 Or more like a dangerous weapon.

  • @RayManzarekGod haha Justin bieber should fear it

  • @ultramagnus58 Oh yeah! He can sing better than him and play an instrument, AND WRITE SONGS! And it is a guitar in his hands! He had the best tone ever too man.

  • The HO is a total credit to rock and roll.

  • what a talent he was.

  • Man. Zak and John are tearing it up!

  • RIP John.

  • OMG!! What bass is that ?????

  • @eezy1972 Status Graphite Buzzard, discontinued after his death, but there is a very expensive Warwick version, you can see it on their website...

  • @eezy1972 warwick buzzard

  • @urqua77ro No it's a status graphite buzzard.

  • cant help but miss Moons drumming on this song in particuliar.....the drummer here is just beating up the crash symbols, lol

  • @ronnied828

Moon beat his cymbals up too

  • @ronnied828 I THINK THAT MAY BE HIS PRIMARY RIDE CYMBOL 2ND FROM THE LEFT AND HES USING THE SHOULDER OF HIS DRUMSTICK TO "CRASH IT" JUST LIKE KEITH MOON DID REMEMBER UNCLE KEITH TAUGHT THE YOUNG ZAC STARKEY (THE SON OF RINGO STARR) TO DRUM !!!!!!

  • such an amazing bassist if i were to play bass hed b my inspiration

  • Pete is on fire nowadays, he's really become a great guitarist indeed. However, nothing beats John's pick to finger transfer. Man, you just can make those fingers stop when they've started hammering.

  • this song is so cool....!

  • I think he goes from the pick to his fingers for a particular effect or sound he is looking for from the strings.

  • greatest live band

  • best song on whos next

  • Rowdiest version of this I've ever heard, and I've heard a few. They tear it up in this song. They got better as they got older, an unusual trait in Rock.

  • Unlike most other guitarists from his era, Townshend's playing hasn't mellowed a bit. In fact, it is more raw and aggressive than ever before.

  • Instead of always joking about the rock and roll way to die, why couldn't someone try and help this man. Maybe he'd be alive today. Miss ya OX!

  • Entwistle wasnt much of a showman, he barely moved, nor did he talk to the crowed, but he sure did know how to play the bass.....

  • @FFEMT152 hehehe i love that scene in Tommy film, in the pinball battle, where everyone is detroying instruments and getting wild, and he just stands there, playing his musical magic. The OX, for sure!

  • @FFEMT152 I think the contrast that John created opposite Keith and Pete, was a far more interesting sight than just 4 longhaired guys headbanging can ever be.

  • @FFEMT152 didnt need to brother his fingers did the talkin lol

  • "gonna buy a fahst car..." I love the British accent and I love the ox! One of my favorite who songs from Who's Next.

  • Technicaly its the english accent lol. Scots sound compeletely diferent but yeah I agree amazing song and good to see roger Helping out a bit as well (Y)

  • I'm missing moons spark of "before the beat " cymbal genius on the "all i did was have a bit too much to drink.." bit.

  • THE OX!!!!!!

  • And pete's playing a shoreline gold American Custom Shop reissue with a Piezo pickup/transducer installed. Note the xtra knob near the trem. I might do that mod to one of my strats. I notice that kind of shit, go figure.

  • Having a piezo in an electric guitar is pricey but pretty sweet. His Strat is a stereo output, the electric pickups are sent through one end of a stereo y-splitter to his Fender amps. The acoustic Piezo pickup is sent through the other end of the y-splitter direct to the mixing board.

  • Yes, note the Buzzard like headstock...nice.

  • Is the bass The Ox's playing here the Status all-carbon buzzard?

  • entwistle...

    incredible...

  • My sweetie's so cute!

  • i dont usually like the who. and i don't like this song.

  • of course you like them you watched the video dumb fuck

  • i watched the video to compare Entwistle to Pastorious. Why am i defending myself to a nirvana fan anyway? go eat a gun.

  • oh good one next time you can come up with a better one with out mommy's head up your ass

  • that doesn't even make sense, you fucking shithead.

  • OH RLY

  • yes, really.

  • OH RLY

  • yes.. really, really.

  • OH RLY

  • fine, i guess not.

  • OH RLY

  • YES... really. i changed my mind.

  • Good

  • excellent, then.

  • OH RLY

  • i'm really torn about whether to continue this or not.

  • OH RLY

  • fine. yes, really.

  • OH RLY

  • yes

  • OH FUCKING RLY

  • yep.. i feel like you're driving across the country to murder me, and stopping at every starbucks along the way to drink more coffee and reply to me on youtube... but yes, really.

  • OH RLY

  • yes

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • haha is ur comment a parody of the lyrics of my wife?

  • OH RLY? haha joke..

  • The reason why I don't resent Zak Starkey as the Who's drummer is because Moonie taught him to play. There is really NO drummer fit for the Who except if he was taught by the Loon.

  • Bass Player Of The Millenium

  • i love at about 1:51 John says "F*CK the Pick! i wanna play with me fingers!"

  • @bigk3347 fucking awesome! :)

  • one of those handfull of the greatest players who ever played in rock.

  • WHO is entwistle....... think about those 3 words

  • Best song? I'm not sure - the Who have so many great ones, but this is certainly one of my favorites!

I love when John throws away the pick and starts REALLY jamming. (About 1:30)

  • 1:50 actually.

  • can't do it

  • Personally, I LOVE John's voice. But that's just me.

  • 1:53 unvelievable!!

  • Mr. John "ThunderFingers" Entwistle

  • Damn right

  • You would be stressed to find a bassist that could play this well and as fast as he does. This song is the very best highway driving song there is.

  • Entwistle had speed, but also musicality. As fast as his riffs were, they fit the songs perfectly.

  • Greatest bassist ever.Just couldn't sing. God bless and rest his soul!

  • He was an excellent singer when he was younger...

  • Comment removed

  • Entwistle was a great singer back in day. But on the other hand, Keith Moon was the worst singer out of the band. But concidering he was a crazy guy he still is hilarious in singing Bell Boy.

  • Too bad his voice went so sour. He did seem to age alot faster than Pete or Roger.

  • Unfortunately this was the ravages of his cocaine habit, which Enwhistle never kicked. The powder wrecked his heart and in the end, this is what killed him. Sad.

  • No doubt. Yeah,I know he was the best . Just like keith was the best drummer.

  • which = the greatest rythem section of all time... people dont understand this...

  • If anyone dares to say that John Enwhistle wasn't one of the greatest, if not THE greatest bassist in rock history: WATCH THIS VIDEO! You see the speed, the precision, the technique, it's all in the video!

You See Folks: They Called Him "Thunder Fingers" FOR A REASON.

The Ox was among the first bassists in the rock era to play it not as a backing instrument, but at the front, along with the 6-string guitar & vocals. He showed that the bass could lead a song & not just provide rhythm or beats.

  • 100% agree. There is,was or ever will be another bassist like Enwistle. He was by FAR the best ever.

  • Jaja como avienta la pua en el minuto 1:51 xD

  • This shows that people on their 60s can still rock!

  • he always used a pick on this song...

  • the're so good even at 60

  • Pena que até Entwistle já se foi...

  • Mto boa banda, pena que até Entwistle já se foi...

  • I like how he just kinda tosses the pick at 1:50 and keeps on rockin

  • now just after he throws the pic is why the called him John "thunderfingers" Entwhistle, rock on Roger Pete, RIP John and Keith

  • the who rocked!!, r.i.p. john an keith
