  • amazing.

  • i used the word vindictive on the channel page before i watched this

  • I loved this: it's amazing! I totally agree with you. I admit my grammar isn't the best but I try and it's much better than practically all my friends which really is worrying... People just have no idea about english language anymore, it's disgraceful. There should be more focus on actually learning the language, but as I was saying: I loved it! :)

  • It's clear you've never taken a linguistics class because if you had you'd never post a video such as this. There is no such thing as 'proper' English. Some linguists might go as far as to question even the concept of 'the' English language. Personally I believe there many Englishes, even more than one per person who speaks 'English'.

  • There's an annoying thing about people who become to over the top in their field of work and start spewing nonsense by overcomplicating things. There is only one English language, unless you include Pidgin, in which case there are two. Other forms are either dialects, or sheer bastardisations spawned from lack of respect for the language. And of course there is proper English, proper English is what became fixed grammatically and in spelling during the 15th and 16th centuries in Britain.

  • Lets invent a truly new universal language every countries in the world accept. Life would be simpler by learning just 2 languages thereby prevent the extinction of unpopular languages. Truly sad Inglish with its inefficiency and inconsistency came to dominate the language of business world.

Its funny Inglish is language based on sound yet require more symbols to learn the pronunciation in the dictionary. EAT --> grEAT

    OUR hOUR

  • It's called Esperanto! :)

  • Tristar, what would be the point? And where would the fun be? Personally I'm learning Japanese, and think the system the world has now is fine. In business, you communicate with the rest of the world in English mostly. In your own country, keep your own culture alive, and use your own language. It's sad in my country's case however, as English is becoming synonymous with US culture, rather than England, the country where this rather beautiful language first arose.

  • yay!

I get so annoyed when people use English incorrectly, I'm the one at my school known for correcting everybody's grammar constantly to their annoyance.

  • Definitely liked this. It's too true and I wish more people knew how to use the English language properly. Added to favorites. XD

  • i really liked this vid.

  • UR sew ghey 4 posting this shizzle ;) Just kidding, it wuz phunny. I'm hooked on fonix...fonix and crack.

  • Bravo! However "biznitch" is a great word, have some fun with the language,I say, just learn the roolz 2 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, lol. (Note, I used an extra comma at the end of all my superfluous commas)

  • Raises some good points but take the pep down a few notches? Gets kind of obnoxious.

  • great vid

  • You are a purist of the English language. I bet you would cringe at the thought of a double negative, even though there was a time when double negatives were proper form. I believe that all styles of English have their proper place, whether it is through abbreviations in text messages or using slang to promote cultural diversity. "Proper" English is still important to evoke a sense of intelligence, but learning Shakespeare has never helped me write a science report.

  • One doesn't have to speak like Shakespeare to speak English properly. His way of speaking is an old style which is no longer used, it is still possible to speak English properly without sounding formal.

  • Thank you for the reply.

I beg to differ that you can have informal proper English. Your proper use of 'one' as a pronoun proves my point since it is no longer used in common English.

  • People no longer use "one" because people aren't speaking English properly anymore. They say "you" instead of "one" which confuses me and isn't proper English.

My point was that *you* (one) can use English properly without sounding formal - which seems to be yours too.

  • ... =]

  • Excellent video. Very much appreciated by me! I think I may even show this to my little sister. She forever enrages me with her 'txt tlk'. Perhaps your video will inspire her more than I could.

  • "i would also like to thank you for the glorious ......... that roll off of my tongue in a fiery succession, but are only known to others when they appear in the most unwelcome fashion" "people cannot decipher between" = oh crap, my vocabulary has been overextended.

"people do not care to cease being ignorant" = i am an elitist grammar-wench wannabe with poor taste in word selection and an oversized thesaurus.

to paraphrase d'souza, this is what happens when you let an engineer out of the lab.

  • to paraphrase d'souza, this is what happens when you let a retard out of his cage.

Next time you decide to fuck with one engineer, remember that you're fucking with all of us.

  • This was awesome. You are indeed super. Everything I want to say on a daily basis was in this video. I subscribed. Saw "enlightenment" and "ladies man". you made me "lol". that is, i meant to say, you caused me to laugh aloud.

  • English slag is part of the English language. Just because it is colloquial, does not justify us removing it from our vernacular. Some of the world's greatest writers have used slag in absolute eloquence. I mean... broadcast used to be slag for laying seed, and now it is a part of our formal language. I think we need to appreciate slang... its English's naughty side ;-)

  • Wow... I was going to write something just along those lines, but refrained for lack of an account. I suppose I will have to settle for concurring. I love English just a s much as the next guy (probably a lot more), and this is because, in part, of our beautiful acceptance of neologisms. To criticize the use thereof simply shows a use of "English" as a tool for bludgeoning those one considers inferior, and as such I will not take part. Besides, every word that we use was once a kind of slang.

  • Actually, you are a perfect example for our need of slang and informal language. Look how complex what you wrote is. Would the average English speaker know what in the world you were talking about? It is too... advanced. I mean... we can cut it down to "I just got an account, I'm down with what shadow said. I like English because new words and phrases pop up all the time. The English language couldn't just be an elitist tool cuz most of our language started as slang." Oh so simple...

  • As an English Language student, I'm with you all the way on this one, Evie!

You're pretty cool for doing this, too...

  • lol this is soo true

  • You must be *spoken* correctly...

  • Oh...forgot to add: Other than that, I really like it XD

  • I actually said "spelt" in that bit. Had I said "spoke," oh man...I don't think I could live myself! :) Blame my crappy mic that definitely could use replacing. Thanks for commenting! :)

  • Ah! Okay, I hear it now. Hahahah... okay. Anyways, nice vid XP

  • I love how every single person is not trying their best to punctuate correctly. Go to any other video... and there is not a capital letter to be found. Unless the entire comment is such.

  • That's a good and funny point. (thumbs up) Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to use much internet shorthand. My degree cost so much I feel bound to use my education whenever possible. I have to add happy faces and lols now so I don't sound like an elitist snot.

    lol :) lulz haha ;) j/k :P hehe

  • You in no way come across as an elitist snot... I hope that was a compliment.

  • It sounded like one to me. Thanks!

  • Welcome!!

  • Excellently put. Though I must say that, like most good points, the effect is not in the proving but in the following. I regularly scroll down the page to peruse the abhorrent comments on most videos, most of which include "words" such as "lolz," "ur" and "fav'd," and say almost nothing of value. But when I look at the comments of the valiant lexophiles below, I almost cry with joy, for my faith in humanity climbs a notch where once it fell a hundred.

  • Dear Kindred Spirit (Evie),

Thank you!! I often feel I should apologize to the English language when people write "could of" or "should of" instead of the proper "could have" and "should have". People seem not to know that when they say "could've" they are not saying "could of", but rather a contraction of two separate words. This must break Engee's heart.

    Your fan,

    The English Student

  • Dewseux,

THANK YOU! I mean, people realise their mistake with "they're" and "their", and even "your" and "you're", but WHY do they not grasp the "could of" issue?! It does my head in!

Great video too, Superevie :) Really well made.

  • loved. it. =)

  • Bravo, Absolutely fantastic! It is good enough to be a TV commercial. Perhaps even better.

  • Nicely put!

And may I say, appropriate song choice? I enjoyed it.

  • Nerimon got me to your channel, but this got me to subscribe...

    entertaining, encouraging, and endearing!

  • Haha, I loved this video! Everything in it is so completely true! I'm more or less a little OCD about grammar and spelling, so this made me laugh. A very accurate way to sum up how I feel.

  • That was REALLY awesome! I agree, it is really annoying when people cannot distinguish between you're and your. I know adults that still write things like "They're was a dog," and "There names were hard to pronounce." This was really well done. Major kudos and five stars!

  • It's nice to know people besides me and my English teacher still care! I'm definitely favouriting this.

  • yes... okay that video has single handedly convinced me that i should begin spelling things correctly and using propper grammer online. wait 'I' should be capitalized. does a comma co before the and? English is important (notice the capital E) glad you made this video.

  • That was a brilliant video. It should have more views :)

  • This video made me really happy. n_n

Have you ever read the book Eats, Shoots, and Leaves? It makes punctuation funny!

  • ;D great video. It wouldn't surprise me if this ended up on the front page...

  • Yes it most likely will...I hope.

  • Wow, it's lovely to know I'm not the only teenager who cares about the English language...

Heh, I love the comment from muffinbanana, I've never heard of an Anglizism before. That's absolutely fantastic. Haha, wow!

  • This is the first video on youtube to ever make me step out of my confirmed lurker status, and want to comment. Put simply, it was tremendous! Well done, evie!

  • That's awesome.

    :)

  • mh... okay... I'm german, just as felix below me and I can tell you it's the same with our language too :) in germany it's also often the problem that today nearly every word has to be related to the same in english or whatever... we call this anglizism, don't know if you know that... but we also have to consider language itself changes constantly, although such words as used in the internet make me feel... weird ^^

  • I love this video. I agree with every word you say, and I was just wondering if you have the address for the English Language, as I would like to send some fan mail as well.

    Thanks in advance.

  • This video taught me 'egregious'. Not as fun as 'defenestration' or 'Resistentialism' but still pretty nice

  • Congratulations Henry Higgins on your fantastic video! Although language is fluid and constantly subject to enviromental and sociological change rather than a rigid state of tiresome grammatical rules judged by social hierarchy, I agree dat da internetz duznt do gd 2 wordz n shit.

p.s My favourite word is meander.

  • This deserves so many more views than it has.

    5 Stars!

  • wonderful.

my sentiments seem to reflect yours & i think we should engage in a threesome post haste.

  • I love the way you think. We're doing this. ;)

  • hey!

please tell me where I can find this recording of "rebellion (lies)".

oh, and I profoundly agree: I'm german and all, and I sometimes find myself shellshocked by the tedious torture the english language has to endure from people who should speak or write a plethora of times better than me.

on an almost unrelated note: people who don't have favourite words scare me. mine are lycanthropy and plethora. I whish I could use the first one more often.

  • man this video made me feel stupid, good job tho, it was kinda funny too

  • Indubitably!

  • I may be in love with you because of this video.

  • That is so true!

  • Dear Evie,

I agree with your astounding film, the English language does need to be reintegrated into schools and the like. I enjoyed this very much, and it makes me feel a bit less embarrassed. The reason being is that when I instant message or email someone I always type in full sentences! Thank you for this awesome feel, more people should see it!

  • Thank you!

Always feel free to share the vid and spread it around! We have to get the awareness raised. :)

    -Evie

  • zomg evie i totaly agree! ppl on teh net drive me crazy with there horible english total lazyness and there suxors slang words

    thanx 4 makin this vid!!!

  • u tipe so gud! lets be bff 4ever!

  • Dear Evie,

As much as I am flattered by your kind comments regarding my skills as a typist, I must say I am appalled by your flagrant misspellings, grammatical errors, and Generation Y jargon. Although I still hold you in very high regard as being a rare and delightfully original personality on this vast video sharing network, your dissolution of the English language would preclude me from accepting any terms to engage in a best friendship for forever.

    Kind Regards,

    Steven

  • Dear Steven,

If you do not cease and desist your flagrant disregard for my impeccable typing skills, I will have no choice but to direct, write, and star in an unflattering video of you. Your hopes of having a presidential career will be ruthlessly curtailed. I strongly suggest you accept my accord of entering a best friends forever arrangement.

    Growing concerned,

    Evie
