I was there livin' the SoCali life at the annual Playboy Jazz Festival! The next day I ran out got the album (CDs were just building momentum of popularity). Although there is nothing like a live performance and this one was good, but I give the nod to the studio controlled version as an all time smooth jazz favorite.
I was (& still am) fascinated when I listened (listen) to this tune on the 80's Radio Luxembourg "Groove" Import Charts with Tony Prince. You really can feel the summer & heat. Pieces Of a Dream & Grover Washington Jr. (it's a pity he's gone, R.I.P.) with the voice of Barbara Walker (simular to Randy Crawford) put so much soul into this song, that it's a perfect combination. I really miss this time, the 80's got so much great soul tracks, it was the best.
Wonderfully evocative song. I saw them in London in the 80s along with Bill Withers, it was a really good show. I wouldn't consider this 'smooth jazz', which I always think of as dull and bland and all too pervasive today. This certainly wasn't that. Thanks very much for posting.

Pieces of a Dream is an R&B/jazz fusion group from Philadelphia. The group was formed in 1976 by bassist Cedric Napoleon, drummer Curtis Harmon, and keyboardist James Lloyd. At the time, the three were all teenagers. The group based their name on Pieces of Dreams, a song by Stanley Turrentine that the group performed.
I like this sound, summers tune the vocals just beautiful, they dont do it like this now a days when music was music lets go back too the 80s love the Guitar keyboards and drums lol
Yep this is one of my favourite songs. I "discovered" the band on my first trip to the usa in 1981 when they released their first album produced by Grover Washington Jr. I must do this one on a gig sometime.
This joint was a WHUR staple back in the day!

The best thing about posting these videos is learning some of the history behind the groups that I've been enjoying for years. Thank you.
