I remember the first time they started this mill i was across the road and it was wired wrong with the 2 motors turning in opposite directions and when they engaged the clutches instead of going around it went up and bang they had to ship new pinions and girth gear for it. Really expensive mistake considering it would have take just one person to say WAIT they are not turning properly before engaging the clutches. LOL glad i wasn't paying for it.
what a load of shit, they are on direct drive speed control so dont have clutches, they were not coupled to the pinions until all commissioning was complete during initial installation in 1995 and the control system upgrade in 2005, and motor directions were confirmed, in which they were right first time, as that is the easy part of the automation, done with a software check. The girth gear was only replaced due to mechanical failure. What a difference between 'thought' and 'actual'
the place I work at right now they have a hard time as well. I just got a job with a place with VFD motors on there sag and ball mills. Cant wait to see it work.
