Love those old Ealing movies -- in fact, I sat down and watched The Titfield Tunderbolt with my nine year old daughter just last night - she thought it was great....
Really enjoyed the " then & now " view of Ealing, just a shame that the old place is going to the dogs, cant even look at west Ealing these days, makes me very very sad to see the area becoming a real cesspit
omg i used to live just off south ealing road - i never even recognised ealing in these clips! in fact, now i recognise where the three are walking near the beginning i used parallel to where they are in the picture on their right just behind the shops!
I'm reminded of the reprint of Ian Nairn's book on London, where new photographs of the locations contrast with those taken in the 60s.
In every instance the destruction of fine old buildings, and their replacement with ugly and out-of-scale monstrosities, together with the grubbing up of green spaces and the removal of trees has ruined these ordinary but pleasant townscapes.
WOW... what a brilliant job, and they don't seem to have change too much really... considering it's over 50 years for some of the locations... WOW :0)x
hahah the guy a 0:14 is a ledgend, think he passed away a few years back. used to have a massive lip
