Oh....your description is sooo cute and true!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess you and me are having similar problems lately.....I fell off the other day, and after that I started thinking that maybe I am just a horrible rider since I can't hang on when Zander completely fails over a jump. It made me think...why am I doing this? Then I remembered....horses are my life. They have gotten me through so many hard times by simply being them. I can't quit riding. I just can't. But I do need to change something.

@horsesofcourses1: Aw, I hope things get better for you! And don't get down on yourself, I've seen how Zander moves and he can be a tough beastie to stay on! Nope, we are unable to quit riding, you are def. right =] I think it will get better =] Im just going to change my outlook some and just try and have fun, and let Empy take her time, she still is jumping obsessed and as long as she is we will keep at it =] And Zander's inexperienced too right? I guess it just takes time. We will get there!
@empy5 Thanks! Yeah, he can be obnoxious sometimes, while other times he is perfect, like how we just did our first flying change the other day. Yeah, Zander had never seen a jump before I started riding him!!! It does take time....and hard work....and lots of dirt to eat.....and whatever else comes with riding horses. But hey, we should be used to it by now, I guess!
@horsesofcourses1: Haha aren't they always special like that? They are always fine until they aren't. LOL. Congrats on the flying change =] I guess we should, us always working with the greenies!
@empy5 Yeah, they are!!! Thanks! Yeah, we should be, although the sad part is, Zander isn't really green. Yeah, green for English, but pretty darn good otherwise!
Awwww Empy! You guys look great as usual! (: My pony loves stopping at fences every so often, it sucks when you expect them to go over lol! I'm sure the phase will pass though!
@EmmaAndCasino : Thank you so much!!!! I hope so its incredibly stressful, lol. And it does indeed suck, its like, going to go over yes yes yes, NOOO! heehee.
@cassieF1993: Thank you!!!! ;DD Me too its one of my favs, plus it helps show that she actually can be a rather large beastie haha, she always looks like a pony when Im on her if the camera is angled weird, LOL. =]
man this is so cute, me and han are proud! the stoppings just a phase im sure, it happens to everyone :) dont worry :) I still think you two look great! :) such a nice vid xx
@EmpigandPurple: Thanks so much girlie, it means so much to me! I hope it is, she seems really eager and loves to jump so much, but then she just randomly freaks herself out and stops. Its rare but idk. . . Has Han ever gone through a slight stopping phase?? And thank you!!!
@empy5 naa i honestly mean it, you two are so happy together its nice. She's a baby, just sit back and keep your leg on from a few strides out and let her build her confidence up. Han stops quite alot! she's always getting distracted by something, or bombing into it then going to stop and i have to kick her over it on some mental stride, han isnt confident so sometimes that comes out :) it's not thaaat often anymore but it still happens, does to everyone :) you'll get through it shes a bubba!
@EmpigandPurple: Thank you! Wow, I didn't know she used to stop like that, you've done wonders with her you guys just go pop huge fences like they are nothing! I find it very inspirational =] Good to know someone who's worked through it, it gives me hope that if we just take it really slow we can get there eventually =]
@empy5 haha yeah she still does sometimes! And she's 9 now :P thankyou very much man, it does mean alot. you two will be fine im sure :) it's just about doing it at there own pace really :) but you'll do brill im sure, you already have and are!
I dont know what you are doing when she stops in front of a jump (no clips of it) but I know every instructor and trainer I've ever had, and clinic, video and article I've ever learned from would tell you to make it REALLY uncomfortable for them to 'choose' not to jump so they never do it again. Kick, thump, growl at them, etc in front of the jump after a refusal, andnext time you are going for the jump be supportive but quiet and they'll make sure they go over instead of stop in front!
@Justasam: If she stops I get after her with my voice and if she is really naughty she sometimes gets a tap but I don't want to force her over it. But she's extremely sensitive and getting after her just makes her more nervous and she won't settle, so ninety nine percent of the time its just teaching her she won't die if she touches a pole and keeping leg on. She's odd. Encouragement usually works better with her, idk she's never really stopped often before guess we will see in the future.
Also, she looks STUNNING in the clips where youre on the ground and shes spooking!
You two havent been jumping that long anyways have you? (her I mean) like a year? two? It takes more like 4-6 years to get to competing at 3' and doing it well, then start moving up.
And how often do you guys jump per week? Almost everything required for doing courses well you can practice on the flat or with low xrails (bounces).
@Justasam: Just going to keep going down the line haha ;] thank you, she's actually grown about 2 inches since those clips in erm, july I think it was. =] And nope, I started consistently jumping her in october of last year, before that she jumped TINY poles once a month haha. I also don't jump her every week, it depends on how much she needs but for the summer about twice a month was reg. =] Before shows about once every ten days to a week, sometimes twice a week if things aren't clicking. . .
I've thought this several times too. :( Im pretty sure horses are in your blood too deeply to take out! Youre one of the few people I see every day on youtube who actually wants and NEEDS this in her life, whos willing to WORK for it. Empy is still so young! Competing at 3' as a 5 year old is so young! Think of her and dont stress too much even if she isnt your competition horse, you'll find one and will always have empyslove :) Not every horse is meant to compete over 3', they're kind of rare
@Justasam: Thanks so much girl, it means so much to me, thank you for being so supportive! And I totally agree, I personally don't think 5yr olds should be out competing at 3'+ feet, people just keep stereotyping and deciding when the horses are like 4 that they are future champions and I think thats bull, it does take time I agree and it takes a while to let them come into their own. And I hope she's my competition horse, b/c if not then I probs won't be out showing,LOL. cont. . .
sounds like you've been going through some rough times now from the description :(
i dont think as a 5 yr old she has to be jumping 3' courses! in fact i find that kind of odd that people would think that. progress can take time and some times you just got to wait it out through the hard times because there usually is a brighter time heading your way
