In "bù haǒ yì sī" , the tone of the fourth character is not "sì", and it usually has no tone or empty tone by stressing the third character tone, which can be labled as "si" .By listening to your negligeable accent carefully, I guess you are from southern china .

aren't bu hao yi si and dui bu qi sort of inter-changeable? so bu hao yi si would just be excuse me also? xie xie ni ^-^

Bu hao yi si means excuse me and sorry. Dui bu qi means sorry. But Dui bu qi is used to apologize on something serious; if one accidentially steps on a stranger's foot, bu hao yi si would do. :)

It could mean the general OK phrase and also used when you forgive someone.

Did you mean "so so"? We would say "hai2 hao3".

Taiwan and China spoken MANDARIN (chinese) are different. They intonation and the way it is spoken are different. So, though the people of these two country may be able to communicate, the understanding may still be need a little working on...
