@fuckutube74 Yes, he did report not seeing stars from the surface of the Moon. Why you would expect anyone standing in broad daylight to also see dim stars at the same idea, I don't know. Go out in desert sunlight, almost as bright as the sunlight on the Moon. Look around the desert for a while. Then look up at the sky and count the stars. If you see any stars other than the sun, someone has just hit you in the head. Eyes, and cameras, simply don't work that way. To see bright is not to see dim.

He never says you can't see stars in cislunar space; in fact you *have* to in order to navigate. It's kind of hard to take star sightings if you couldn't see stars! Perhaps you know a photographer who can explain to you how eyes (and camera irises) cannot be adjusted for bright things and dim things at the same time.

Firstly because they are very bright, and second because the helmet visors had polarized light shielding inside... in other words, the visor was like a sheet of sunglasses material. Go out into the desert in broad daylight, put on a pair of sunglasses, and count how many stars *you* see. Then remember the lunar surface is about 20% brighter! Simple, isn't it?

In fact, they could even look out the window and see their own urine, which was dumped overboard. Contrast this with actually being on the extremely bright lunar surface, with all that light forcing both eyes and cameras to be adjusted so that dim things like stars cannot be seen. Do try to be more polite to those who teach you.

He wasn't able to see the stars just by looking out the window ( lots of lights inside the craft, which makes it like trying to see stars out the window of a brightly-lit living room), they had an instrument similar to a sextant attached to a periscope, which blocked out extraneous light so they could take star sightings. A16 *did* manage to photograph stars.

Apollo 16 photographed stars. It had a camera that blocked out sunlight, and took about 200 pictures of stars.

The Apollo 16 pics have been verified as real, by the fact they were taken in UV light that does not reach the ground, so no astronomer on Earth would know how to make them look... but when other countries sent up UV space telescopes in recent years, the A16 pics are a match. Let me put it more simply... no one knew back then how bright which stars were in UV, but the A16 pics got it right and are therefore real.

Collins was not on the surface of the Moon at any point; by tipping the craft so neither the Sun nor Moon showed, it would get dark enough to see stars with the cabin lights out. Aldrin, like Armstrong, was wearing a helmet on the Moon that blocked most light, and of course all stars. You are comparing the brightness on the Moon's surface, to the interior of a craft that could turn so neither Sun nor Moon overwhelmed the stars.
